As phans of Larry's music know all too well, over the years many of his songs have been included on more than one album. Sometimes many more than one album. Like thirty more than one album! Sometimes the exact same recording, sometimes a slightly different mix, and sometimes a completely different version.
Even the ultimate Larry geeks find it difficult to keep tabs on it all, so some time ago I had the idea of creating a website which would do just that. Detail all of Larry's songs, all of the different versions, and which albums they all appear on. Quite a task given we're talking about well over a hundred albums, so I never really did anything about my idea. It didn't help either that I have basically zero experience in web design or anything related to it.
Anyway, when Charles Norman recently told me that he wanted to re-issue Street Level and Bootleg, and we figured that simply copying the previous Bootleg CD release would not cut it sonically - it was a vinyl transfer with little clean up - I and another phan spent some time trying to identify the best versions of the Bootleg tracks which exist.
That exercise re-ignited the idea for my website, and, having decided that I watch more TV than I should, I actually did something about it. It's very early days yet, but after getting the basic information for Upon This Rock in place, I decided to publish. That was a few days ago.
Since then I've added basic details for Only Visiting This Planet, an album landing page (still work in progress) and a list of all the songs. Actually I took the list from another website, and don't think it's quite all of the songs. But it will be.
Oh, and I added this blog page. Apparently Google likes sites with blogs and ranks them higher in search lists. And maybe someone else is interested in what I'm trying to do here.
