In Another Land
This album was released in 1976. The first commercial version was the UK vinyl, which differed from the US version slightly. On the UK version, I've Searched All Around and Hymn To The Last Generation both have slightly longer fadeouts. There are no lyrical differences, apart from the additional faint talking at the end of I've Searched All Around.
the rock that doesn't roll
[Go to Song Page]
Woo
I was lost and blind then a friend of mine
Came and took me by the hand
And he led me to his kingdom
That was in another land
Now my life has changed, it's rearranged
When I think of my past I feel so strange
Wowie zowie well he saved my soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's good for the body and great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
I was all alone like a rolling stone
I was going nowhere fast
I was on the road so far from home
When the future touched my past
Now I feel so blessed 'cause he gave me a rest
And I finally feel like I've passed the test
I wanna be like him yes that's my goal
Like a rock that doesn't roll
Oh he's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's good for the body and great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Ah-ow-yow
I was lost and blind then a friend of mine
Came and took me by the hand
And he led me to his kingdom
That was in another land
Now my mind is blown, my head has grown
A solid rock ain't a rolling stone
Wowie zowie well the cat's got soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Well, he's the rock that doesn't roll (he's the rock that doesn't roll)
He's the rock that doesn't roll (he's the rock that doesn't roll)
You know he's good for the body and great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't
Rock that doesn't
Rock that doesn't
Rock that doesn't roll
You've got to rock me on the water
You've got to rock me from my grave
You've got to rock me till I'm feeling good
You've got to rock me till I'm, rock me till I'm saved
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's good for the body and great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
I wanna tell you
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's good for the body and great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll

[Go to Song Page]
We can be together for now and forever
I love you, I love you
Hey can you hear me I got to have you near me
I love you, I love you
I was lonely till you came along
And now you've got me singing your love song
I love you [x12]
Life is a mystery, love is a dancer
I love you (I love you)
I had a question, you brought the answer
I love you (I love you)
Oh but I need you so, I could never let you go-oh-no-oh
I love you [x12]
Yes I love you
Oh but I need you so, (Ah ah ah) I could never let you go-oh-no no
I love you [x18]
I was lonely once but then you came along and I love you
(La la la la la la la la la la la love you, I love you)
And you gave me love so I wrote down this song, hey I love you
(La la la la la la la la la la la love you, I love you)
I wanna spend my life with you like the angels on high, hey I love you
(La la la la la la la la la la la love you, I love you)
You're the morning star, the son in my sky and I love you
(La la la la la la la la la la la love you)
We can be together for now and forever
I love you, I love you
Hey can you hear me I got to have you near me

He's an unidentified flying object
You will see him in the air
He's an unidentified flying object
And you will drop your hands and stare
You will be afraid to tell your neighbors
They might think that it's not true
But when you open up the morning papers
You will know they've seen it too
He will come back like he promised
With the price already paid
He will gather up his followers
And take them all away
He's an unidentified flying object
He will sweep down from the sky
He's an unidentified flying object
And some will sleep but will not die
He's an unidentified flying object
Coming back to take you home
He's an unidentified flying object
He will roll away your stone
And if there's life on other planets
Then I'm sure that he must know
And he's been there once already
And has died to save their souls
He's an unidentified flying object
You will see him in the air
He's an unidentified flying object
And you will drop your hands and stare
Well he's an unidentified flying object
Coming back to take you home
He's an unidentified flying object

i've searched all around
[Go to Song Page]
Darkness can't hide much longer
The spirit is getting stronger
You keep the dance halls humming
But the end of the age is coming
I've searched all around the world to find a grain of truth
I opened the mouth of love and I found a wisdom tooth
Ah
Maybe you think I'm plastic
But your situation's drastic
I'm glad my faith is stronger
This world won't last much longer
I've searched all around the world to find a place of peace
I've sat in the shade of God and I watched the joy increase
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Oh oh ah ah
Oh oh-ho-oh
Ooh hoo hoo hoo hoo
There's no time left for stalling
Can't you hear someone calling
Life all around is crumbling
I think this world is stumbling
Maybe you think I'm wrong now
But this is my only song now
I've searched all around the world to find a grain of truth
Wo oh-ho-oh
I opened the mouth of love and I found a wisdom tooth
I've searched all around the world to find a place of peace
I've sat in the shade of God and I watched the joy increase
Yes, I've searched all around the world to find a grain of truth
Wo-oh
I opened the mouth of love and I found a wisdom tooth
I've searched all around
I've searched all around
I've searched all around the world [x2]

(Ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah)
You can be a righteous rocker or a holy roller (Ah)
You can be most anything
You can be a child of the slum or a skid row bum (Ah)
Or you can be a earthly king
But without love you ain't nothing without love (Oh ho oh)
Without love you ain't nothing without love (Oh ho oh)
I said without love you ain't nothing (Oh)
You ain't nothing nothing nothing
Without love you ain't nothing without love (Oh)

deja vu
[Go to Song Page]
If God is my father
And you are my brother
Then why can't we bother
To really reach out and love one another
Hmm hmm hmm
Why do we keep on acting the way we do
The way we treat each other it just breaks my heart in two
Once we were happy
Oh yes once in the garden
And then a lie broke the stillness
And our hearts began to harden
And hoping to be wiser man has reached too far
Sometimes I think that we've advanced but then I look at where we are
Ah ah ah ah
[Coughs]
Sipping whiskey from a paper cup
You drown your sorrows till you can't stand up
Take a look at what you done to yourself
Why don't you put the bottle back on the shelf
Yellow fingered from your cigarettes
Your hands are shaking while your body sweats
Why don't you look into Jesus
He got the answer
Now think back to when you were a child
Your soul was free your heart ran wild
Each day was different and life was a thrill
You knew tomorrow would be better still
But things have changed you're much older now
If you're unhappy and you don't know how
Why don't you look into Jesus
He got the answer
Work all night, sleep all day hey
You take your money, throw it all away
You say you're gonna be a superstar
But you never hung around enough
To find out who you really are
Take a look, take a look
Why don't you look into Jesus
He got the answer
Yes he does yes he does
Why don't you look into Jesus
He got the answer
You oughta check it for yourself
Look into Jesus
He got the answer
If God is my father
And you are my brother

i am a servant
[Go to Song Page]
I am a servant, I am listening for my name
I sit here waiting, I've been looking at the game
That I've been playing, an' I've been staying much the same
When you are lonely you're the only one to blame
I am a servant, I am waiting for your call (Aah aah)
I've been unfaithful, so I sit here in the hall
How can you use me when I've never given all
How can you choose me when you know I quickly fall
So you feed my soul and you make me grow
And you let me know you love me
And I'm worthless now but I've made a vow
I will humbly bow before thee
Oh please use me, I am lonely
I am a servant, getting ready for my part
There's been a change, a rearrangement in my heart
At last I'm learning there's no returning once I start
To live's a privilege, to love is such an art
But I need your help to start
Oh please purify my heart
I am your servant
I am a servant, I am listening for my name
I sit here waiting, I've been looking at the game
That I've been playing, an' I've been staying much the same

the sun began to reign
[Go to Song Page]
A thief fell out of heaven with some loaded dice
But the lamb rolled a seven back to paradise
The bread was finally leavened so I had a slice
And the sun began to rain
Water swelled from fountains and then turned to wine
Rocks fell from the mountains in a chorus line
He came in tails and top hat and he looked so fine
Yes the son began to reign
A fox snuck in to steal away the grapes
But the man who ran the vineyard shut the gate
So he could not escape
And now we'll live forever in another land
Everything is ending like it first was planned
Did you get your invitation to come play in the band
And let the son begin to reign
A thief fell out of heaven with some loaded dice
But the lamb rolled a seven back to paradise
The bread was finally leavened so I had a slice
And the sun began to rain
Water swelled from fountains and then turned to wine

shot down
[Go to Song Page]
I've been shot down, talked about
Some people scandalize my name
But here I am talking 'bout Jesus just the same
I been knocked down, kicked around
But like a moth drawn to the flame
Here I am talking 'bout Jesus just the same
Wo oh oh oh
I been rebuked for the things I've said
For the songs I've written and the life I've led
They say they don't understand me but I'm not surprised
Because you can't see nothing when you close your eyes
They say I'm sinful and backslidden
That I have left to follow fame
But here I am talking 'bout Jesus just the same
Wo oh oh oh
Go Jonny
Yeah you wanna talk about my life hey listen to me
You got your facts all backwards one two three
And spreading rumors and gossip is a real bad game
The only name to spread is Jesus name
I've been shot down, kicked around
But like a moth drawn to the flame
Here I am talking 'bout Jesus brother
Here I am talking 'bout Jesus sister
Here I am talking 'bout Jesus just the same
Wo oh oh oh

six sixty six
[Go to Song Page]
In the midst of the war he offered us peace
He came like a lover from out of the east
With the face of an angel and the heart of a beast
His intentions were six sixty six
He walked up to the temple with gold in his hand
And he bought off the priests and propositioned the land
And the world was his harlot and laid in the sand
While the band played six sixty six
We served at his table and slept on the floor
But he starved us and beat us and nailed us to the door
Well I'm ready to die, I can't take any more
And I'm sick of his lies and his tricks
He told us he loved us but that was a lie
There was blood in his pockets and death in his eyes
Well my number is up and I'm willing to die
If the band will play six si...
If the band will play six sixty si...
If the band will play six sixty six
In the midst of the war he offered us peace
He came like a lover from out of the east

one way
[Go to Song Page]
One way one way to heaven
Hold up high your hands
One way free and forgiven
Children of the lamb
Two roads diverged in the middle of my life
I heard a wise man say
And I took the one less traveled by
And that's made the difference every night and every day
So I say one way one way to heaven
Hold your heads up high
Follow free and forgiven
Children of the sky
Children of the sky
Yeah-oh-oh-oh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Children of the sky
One way one way to heaven

song for a small circle of friends
[Go to Song Page]
Well my life is filled with songs
But I just could not get along without my friends
And I'm happy now but when this good life ends
I know a better life begins
And love to you sir Stonehill
Armed with your axe full gallop on your amp
Ah you're so crazy but you know it
And I love you as we both crawl toward the lamp
With Clapton on guitar
And Charlie on the drums
McCartney on the Hofner bass
With blisters on his thumbs
Dear Bobby watch your fears all hide
And disappear while love inside starts growing
(Ah let it keep growing)
You're older but less colder
Than the jokes and folks you spent your childhood snowing
And someone died for all you friends
But even better yet he lives again
And if this song does not make sense to you
I hope his spirit slips on through
He loves you
He loves you, he loves you
And if these words do not appeal to you
I hope his spirit slips on through
He loves you
He loves you, he loves you
And if this song does not make sense to you
I hope his spirit slips on through
You know he loves you
Well my life is filled with songs
But I just could not get along without my friends

Come to reason
Face the day
Now's the season
Old things pass away
Stand beside us
Come on and reach out and take
Take (take) his hand
He (he) will guide us
In another in another land
Come to reason
Face the day
Now's the season
Old things pass away
Stand beside us
Come on and reach out and take
Take (take) his hand
He (he) will guide us
In another in another land

Make it [Spoken]
Backstage I cross the middle ground
Curtains up and house lights down
I sing love songs and pass myself around
But afterwards
Some people say they thought I put them down
They feel so bad
It does not matter what I say
I hope tomorrow they have a better day
They seem so trapped
They need release
They need your strong love and strange peace
Reporters question me is this a new direction for the young
How lamb like their faces
How snake like their tongues
They quote me perfectly
Then rewrite every word I speak
And go away convinced we're all some new kind of freaks
I feel so good
It does not matter what they say
Ah ha ha ha ha ha
I hope tomorrow they have a better day
We're all so trapped
We need release
We need your strong love and strange peace
We need your strong love and strange peace

How lamb like their faces
How snake like their tongues
They quote me perfectly
Then rewrite every word I speak
And go away convinced we're all some new kind of freaks
I feel so good
It does not matter what they say
Ah ha ha ha ha ha
I hope tomorrow they have a better day
We're all so trapped
We need release
We need your strong love and strange peace
We need your strong love and strange peace
We need your strong love and strange peace

My brother just flew in from America [Spoken, Randy Stonehill]
Woo
Will you all welcome Larry Norman [Spoken]
I woke up in the morning I said a morning prayer
I washed my face with soap, I ran my fingers through my hair
I went down to the studio on Hollywood and Vine
Clock said seven thirty well I made it just in time
I greeted the musicians, grabbed the nearest chair
I started playing my guitar and told the engineer
C'mon (c'mon) let that tape keep rolling [x4]
C'mon let that tape keep rolling, c'mon c'mon c'mon
Well the first song that we cut was called "Lonely By Myself"
I'll do the vocal later you can leave it on the shelf
The second song we cut was called "No More LSD"
The session's getting better I'm as happy as can be
The last song took us seven takes the first one took us ten
Let's take it from the top and give it all we've got
C'mon (c'mon) let that tape keep rolling [x3]
C'mon (c'mon) I can't hear you
C'mon (c'mon) let that tape keep rolling, c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon
Do you hear me singing on your record machine
The piano's banging, guitar's twanging
The water cooler's clanging the light bulb's hanging
The music's playing, the production's clean
Cross fade all the tracks don't leave no spaces in bet'
C'mon (c'mon) let that tape c'mon c'mon
(C'mon) let that tape keep rolling
C'mon (c'mon) let that tape keep rolling [x2]
C'mon (c'mon) let that tape keep rolling, c'mon c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon
I started out ten years ago my guitar in my hand
I took the message in my heart and played it with a band
I went down to Capitol Records to record Upon This Rock
I wanted to say something, I just let the music talk
I know where I'm going, I know who I must be
I don't care how long it takes, there's lots of things to see
C'mon (c'mon) let your life keep rolling
C'mon (c'mon) let your faith keep growing
C'mon (c'mon) let your love keep showing
C'mon (c'mon) and let the, get going
C'mon get that good news going
C'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon
He come walking down my street
I say he come walking down my street
He come up to my room
He knocked on my heart
He come into my life
He made me feel so good
So good so tough so tough
You know what I'm talking about?
You know what I'm talking about
I'm going home
I'm going home bou bou bou bou
Back home bou bou bou ba back home
Yes I am
He come down and make me feel alright
Like a thief in the middle of the night
I'm going home (back home) [x3]
That's right ?? I'm going home
Where you going? You going home?
Going home
I'm going home
I'm going home yeah yeah
Woo
I'm going home
That's right, we love you. Thank you [Spoken]

Solid Rock Records SRA 2001 [1976, USA]
The US and Canadian releases came in the same gatefold sleeve and with the same printed inner sleeve - though at least some copies came with a plain inner sleeve. US copies also included a four page insert as linked below. I'm not sure if Canadian copies included the insert - mine don't. Note that the two halves of the inner sleeve are the same shade of blue - my camera / software processed them differently
There are at least two label variants of the Canadian release - reflecting whether the records were manufactured in Canada or in the United States

Solid Rock Records ROCKY 1 [1976, UK]
There are multiple, mostly minor variations of the UK LP. The version shown above comes in a Shorewood Packaging Company gatefold sleeve and has matrix stamps ROCKY1A2 and ROCKY1B2 on sides A and B respectively. Matrix markings relate to the master stamper used to press the finished records, and larger selling albums are likely to have more different stampers / matrix numbers
ROCKY1A1 and ROCKY1B1 apply to the 18 track test pressing - good luck finding one of those!

Solid Rock Records ROCKY 1 [1976, UK]
The A side matrix mark is a stamped ROCKY1A2 (as per the above versions). The B side mark is a neatly handwritten ROCKY1B3 |
Other than the matrix marks, this variant is identical to those above, apart from:
There is an additional ring / ridge marking visible on the side 1 label The label text positioning differs slightly yet again |
This version comes in a Garrod & Lofthouse gatefold sleeve, which is all but identical to the Shorewood one. The version shown above has ROCK1A2 and ROCKY1B3 matrix marks. Yet again there are slight differences in the label text positioning, the most notable of which is that the 'L' in 'Produced by LARRY NORMAN' is less out of alignment
Note that the two halves of the inner sleeve are the same shade of blue - my camera / software processed them differently
Go-Tell Communications / Word Records ROCKY 1 [197? South Africa]
This release has a gatefold cover, the rear of which indicates that it was released in 1974! The inner panels are not shown as they are identical to the US, UK and Canadian versions
Intercord INT 160.080 [1976, Germany]
