Rehearsal For The Elsinore |
2005
|
|
Published on Bandcamp on June 14, 2021
|
This CD was given to those who purchased front row tickets to the 2005 Elsinore concert in Salem, and is among the very rarest of Larry's releases. It features recordings from several rehearsals which took place in the run up to the concert. The band rehearsals took place at Wavelength, and most of the acoustic rehearsals in the "band house" where the Solid Rock office was at the time
Why don't you look into jesus
[Go to Song Page]
Sipping whiskey from a paper cup
You drown your sorrows till you can't stand up
Take a look at what you done to yourself
Why don't ya put the bottle back on the shelf
Yellow fingers from your cigarettes
Your hands are shaking while your body sweats
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
??? [Spoken, very faintly]
You got gonorrhea on Valentine’s day
You're still looking for the perfect lay
You think that rock and roll will set you free
You'll be deaf before you're thirty three
Shooting junk till you're half insane
A broken needle in your purple vein
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
You work all night
[Coughs]
Take your money
Throw it
You say you're gonna be a superstar
But you never hung around enough
To find out who you really are
Think back to when you were a child
Your soul was free, your heart ran wild
Each day was different, life was a thrill
You knew tomorrow would be better still
Things have changed, you're much older now
If you're unhappy and you don't know how
Then why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer yeah
I said now why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
We got it [Spoken, by Larry]
That's a take [Spoken]
Thank you. So if you think that's safer not to do a fake stop? [Spoken, by Larry]
Yeah [Spoken, by Charles]
Okay. Well then we need more energy because it kinda lulls there. So we need either a fake stop or full bore [Spoken, by Larry]
You don't have The Epic on film? [Spoken by Gary Pomeroy]
Huh [Spoken, by Larry]
You don't have The Epic on film do you? [Spoken by Gary Pomeroy]
No [Spoken, by Larry]
You didn't film that? [Spoken by Gary Pomeroy]
No [Spoken, by Larry]
Why should the devil have all the good music take one [Spoken, by Charles]
Yeah bu', but wait uh [Spoken, by Larry]
You could take the party to [Spoken, by Nancy]
Sipping whiskey from a paper cup

[Go to Song Page]
One two, one two three [Spoken by Charles]
Want the people to know
That he saved my soul
But I still like to listen to the radio
They say rock and roll is wrong
We'll give you one more chance
I say I feel so good I'm gonna get up
I know what's right, I know what's wrong
I don't confuse it
All I'm really trying to say is
Why should the devil have all the good music
I feel good every day
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away
They say to cut my hair
They're driving me insane
I grew it out long to make room for my brain
Sometimes people don't understand
They say what's a good boy doing
I know what's right, I know what's wrong
I don't confuse it
All I'm really trying to say
Why should the devil have all the good music
Nothing wrong with what I play
Hey hey hey hey hey
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away
Yes he did
Allright
I'm not knocking the hymns
Just give me a song that has a beat
I'm not knocking the hymns
Just give me something that moves my feet
I don't like some of those funeral marches
I ain't dead yet
(Da na na na)
Jesus told the truth
Jesus showed the way
There's one more thing I'd like to say
Nailed him to the cross
And they laid him in the ground
But they shoulda known you can't keep a good man down
I feel good every day
I don't wanna lose it
All I'm really trying to say is
Why should the devil have all the good music
I feel good, yes I do
I love the Lord, I love the Lord
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues
(Jesus is the rock and he rolled) my blues away
Woo-ooh
Hahahahaha [Nancy laughs]
Hahahahahahaha [Larry laughs]
It's easy to talk [Spoken, by Nancy]
So who's gonna cut that song off? [Spoken, by Larry]
I think that was ??? [Spoken, by Kristin]
Who, eh, am, am I possibly gonna cut the song off? It's the end of the show. Yeah, maybe I should jump up, it's the last note and it's goodbye [Spoken, by Larry]
Whatever, we'll be watching you [Spoken, by Charles]

twelve good men
[Go to Song Page]
You need twelve good men
I can only find eleven
??? [Spoken]
There were six young lions
I was waiting for number seven
I may be living down here on earth
But I am living for heaven
There's a woman I'm in love with
Ain't no need to say her name
And no matter what might happen
You know I'm gonna love her just the same
Woo
Love is like meeting an angel from heaven
Love is so hard to explain
Ba ba ba
You know love is like an angle
Or a s', aah', with a hawk
And love is like a snake, or a serpent on a rock
I can't say I understand it
But that's the way Solomon used to talk
Woo
Got a black leather jacket
The one I wore through all my youth
Sometimes I stand on the street corner and preach
I feel just like William Booth
Don't ask me nothing about nothing
I just might tell you the truth
Ye-ah
So I'm not gonna cut this one off? [Spoken, by Larry]
No [Spoken, by Charles]
???
Just follow Jason [Spoken, by Larry]
???
I don't wanna, I don't wanna cut 'em all off [Spoken, by Larry]
???
I can do a jam on the end [Spoken, by Mark Lemhouse]
Yeah [Spoken, by Kristin]
On the end of what? [Spoken, by Larry]
??? [Spoken, by Kristin]
The satisfaction ??? [Spoken, by Mark Lemhouse]
Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Oh, okay, you're saying in the middle it's too long? [Spoken, by Larry]
Yeah [Spoken, by Mark Lemhouse]
Oh okay [Spoken, by Larry]
You need twelve good men
I can only find eleven

Larry. Larry [Spoken, by Kristin]
What? [Spoken, by Larry]
??? [Spoken, by Kristin]
Huh? [Spoken, by Larry]
??? [Spoken, by Kristin]
????? [Spoken, by Larry]
Mama killed a chicken, she thought it was a duck
She loot it on the table wi' its legs sticking up [Larry mispronounces "put"]
Papa broke his glasses when he fell down drunk
Tried to drown the kitty cat, turned out to be a skunk
You gotta watch what you're doing
Don't you know
You gotta watch what you're doing
Yeah
Little Joe Billy went fishing for trout
Played hooky from school 'til the cops found out
Never had a father, was an only child
His mama never beat him so he grew up wild
You gotta watch what you're doing
Don't
I knew a girl, sweet as could be
She fell for a man like a chain sawed tree
She listened to his lies, was fooled by his charms
Now she's sitting with a baby in her arms
You gotta watch what you're doing
Don't you know
You gotta know where you're going
Do you know, yeah
Everything's fine till things get bad
Then you sit around talking 'bout the good times you had
It ain't no good to lead a life of sin
If you don't shape up you know you'll never get in
You gotta watch what you're doing
Don't you know
You gotta know where you're going
A-yes you do
Uh-huh
Some people smile, they seem alright
Then later you find out they got real problems in the night
They've gotta love everybody but don't be blind
'Cause some kind of people try to mess up your mind
You gotta watch what you're doing
Don't you know
Yeah
One two three [Spoken]
Some people say that God is dead
That he doesn't exist except inside your head
I wonder how many gonna be surprised
When they look straight up and see him coming through the skies
You gotta watch what you're doing
A-don't you know
Yeah
You gotta know where you're going
Do you know
Well do ya
Uh-huh, uh-huh
Gotta watch what you're doin-ah
Woh
Yea-eh-eh-ah-ah-ah
Woo
Oo-a-ow
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
Ba na na na
Ba nab ah nab ah ba ba ba
Ba da ba ba ba ba ba ba

And I'm doing this and I'm signing that
And I'm trying to meet some girls
Who says baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby, baby
I can't get no satisfaction
No satisfaction
I can't get no
I can't get no
Satisfaction
One [Spoken, by Charles]
Bang bang [Spoken, by Charles]
I might [Spoken, by Charles]
I'll, I'll hear it. If not [Spoken, by Mark Lemhouse]
??? I threw out a one [Spoken, by Charles]
I got that [Spoken, by Mark Lemhouse]
Ah we did a song a while ago that supposed to, oh Twelve Good Men. [Scats ending of song] Are we doing that? [Spoken by Larry]
Yes [Spoken, by Charles]
Okay [Spoken by Larry]
highway patrol
[Go to Song Page]
Ay
I got a star on my car and a-one on my chest
A gun on my hip with the right to arrest
I'm the guy who's the boss on this highway
So watch out what you're doing when you're coming my way
If you break the law you'll hear from me I know
I'm just doing my job, I'm the highway patrol
Well you'll know me when you see me
'Cause my door's painted white
My siren a-screaming and my flashing red light
I work all day and I work all night
Ah to keep a law and order, try to do what's right
If I write you out a ticket then you better drive slow
I'm just doing my job, I'm the highway patrol
I'm the highway patrol, the highway patrol
The hours are long and my pay is low
I'll do my best to keep you driving slow
I'm just doing my job, I'm the highway patrol
Well if you're doing things that you shouldn't do
You can bet your boots I'm coming after you
If you wanna race then get on a race track
'Cause if you try to run away, I'm gonna bring you back
I'm here to keep all you speeders driving slow
I'm just doing my job, I'm the highway patrol
I'm the highway patrol, the highway patrol
My hours are long and my pay is low
I'm just doing my best to keep you driving slow
I'm just doing my job, I'm the highway patrol
I'm just doing my job, I'm the highway patrol
[Laughter]
Well that had nothing to do [Spoken]

standing
[Go to Song Page]
Yeah well let's go to another one. I, I, I'm, I'm just missing a couple words here. I think what I'll do is I'll, I'll print out all these lyrics and just look at 'em before, before we do the piano set. Huh. Let's sing this one [Spoken, by Larry]
There were times
I remember I had to fight
Just to hold my head up
When even my best friends
Tried to make a fool of me
But there was something in my heart
That they just could not see
Okay so, wh', what is that, a D chord? Do you play a D chord there? [Spoken, by Larry]
There's something in my, something in my
Now, go back. Yeah. Right. Immediately it should go back [Spoken, by Larry]
[Dan Cutrona humming melody]
Just could not
Sure, you want to do [Spoken, by Larry]
Just could not see that
D. Yeah you wanna do it like a church thing [Spoken, by Larry]
[Dan Cutrona humming melody]
Said I was hopeless
Some said I was hopeless
Blind, tangled in the night
Strong hearts just keep on going
And that is why I am standing in the light
Come together
Lift up your voices
This time my song of life and love
Won't fade away
I'll sing forever here in the sunshine
I've lived to see the sun break through the storm
I'm so glad I'm standing here today
Woo doo boo doo woo hoo
Play that again, that was nice. And we'll put that in the song [Spoken, by Larry]
Ooh
Ooh doo doo doo ah wahn
Ch-coo-coo-hoo
Ready? Two, three [Spoken, by Larry]
When you're lost in your trouble
And the world just seems to forget you
If you look for the light
Even in your darkest day
Then s', follow what your heart says
And you will find the way
Uh uh. Okay yeah [Spoken, by Larry] / No sorry, sorry [Spoken, by Dan Cutrona]
You will find the way
Do you want any kind of interlude or should we just keep going? He does a really peculiar [Spoken, by Dan Cutrona]
Ah, should I be at the end there, or should I, should I sing more? [Spoken, by Larry]
He does one, he does one more chorus but y'. There's a kind of a [Spoken, by Dan Cutrona]
Come together
I wish we had tambourines and the choir and uh [Spoken, by Larry]
I wish the band would come in on the last chorus [Spoken, by Dan Cutrona]

Because I think it would really be [Spoken, by Dan Cutrona]
Yeah. Ah-ha [Spoken, by Larry]
Lovely [Spoken, by Dan Cutrona]
I don't think I can get 'em to rehearse it this late in the day [Spoken, by Larry]
No it's, it's fine [Spoken, by Dan Cutrona]
It, it's still gonna work just you and me [Spoken, by Larry]
Yeah [Spoken, by Dan Cutrona]
We've lived to see the storm break through the night
I'm so glad we're standing here today
[Laughter]

Desperado
No [Spoken, by Larry]
End every song with this [Spoken, by Dan Cutrona]
No, this is cool, this is cool. I, I, we just want to give them color because I don't want it to be played like I was um. If I record this, it'll be done more like a song. But I just want this to be played like a moment, a, like in a Broadway play [Spoken, by Larry]
Hey Mike. You're gonna play the song on The Outlaw. You're gonna play the saw, the saw on The Outlaw [Spoken, by Larry]
I don't have the CD of that [Spoken, by Mike Manning]
Well, it won't be hard, and the girls are gonna play banjo and [Spoken, by Larry]
