Two early recordings of Slow Fast are added as bonus tracks |
This 1988 album was created, on Larry's instigation, by two of the biggest Larry Norman collectors in the world - John B Wood and Terry Leskewitch. John in particular was a friend of Larry's and traveled with him on a few tours, filming and recording 'everything'
without you
[Go to Song Page]
Without you it's hard to explain
You could say I'm like a cloud without rain
Or a raging forest fire without a flame
Or some rock and roll star without fame
Without you I think I'm to blame
And you could say I'm like a cloud without rain
Without you I'm a tree with no roots
I'm like some badly sown seed, I bear no fruit
Like some fast dying cowboy without boots
Or the lonely star of David in Beirut
Without you I can never make it through
Without you I just don't know what to do
You could say that I'm lost 'cause I am
Without you
Without you it's hard to explain
You could say I'm like a cloud without rain
Or a raging forest fire without a flame
Or some rock and roll star without fame
Without you I think I'm to blame
And you could say I'm like a cloud without rain
Without you I'm a tree with no roots
I'm like some badly sown seed, I bear no fruit
Like some fast dying cowboy without boots
Or the lonely star of David in Beirut
Without you I can never make it through
Without you I just don't know what to do
You could say that I'm lost 'cause I am
Without you
if i were a singer
[Go to Song Page]
If I was a singer I'd sing my songs for you
And my songs would point out all the things you're made of
And the only thing I'd write about would be love
And if I were a, a forest, if I only had one tree
I'd still stand upon the land and stretch toward heaven
And I'd look down upon the children of your kingdom
Try to be a sign to lead them to the safety of the mountains
And let them satisfy their thirst from running fountains
These are troubled days
And I want to live my life in a special way
These are troubled days
And I want to give my life to you and show the way
If I were the blue sky my winds would blow for you
My clouds would rain upon the earth with heavy showers
I'd rage with hurricanes to make men cower
Make them frightened so they'd look up and watch me 'til that unexpected hour
When you come again from heaven's lofty tower
These are troubled days
And I want to live my life in some worthwhile way
These are sick crazy days
And I want to give my life to you and show the way
And not be blown away and end up crazy like a lot of other people I see who
Some of them who say they know you and they believe in you but
Don't look that way to me
If I were a singer I'd sing my songs for you
And my songs would try to write down all the things I could see you're made of
And the only songs that I'd try to write down would be songs about your love
And I'd sing 'em 'til the faithless ones believed it
And the children of your wayward church received it
I would sing it to the governments and leaders
And to the writers who have misled all the readers
I would sing it though they jailed me and they killed me
Let them empty me of life for you have filled me
You have filled me
If I was a singer I'd sing my songs for you

you got the blues
[Go to Song Page]
Sometimes you wake up in the morning
You don't feel so good
Sometimes you wake up in the morning
And you just don't feel so good
Sometimes you wake up in the morning
And you don't feel so good
And then you know you got the blues
Well when you wake up in the morning
And you don't feel so good
You know you got the blues
Sometimes you wake up in the morning
You don't feel so good
You say I got the blues, I don't feel so good
I've, gonna feel pretty bad all day 'cause I got the blues
Well when you wake up in the morning
You might as well stay in bed 'cause if you're gonna have the blues
You might as well enjoy yourself
Yea-eh-eh-eh-eh-oh-ye-yeah
[Vocally mimics a guitar solo]
Sometimes you get up on the stage at night
And the microphones don't work so good
You get up on the stage
And the microphones don't work so good
Well I wish you'd turn up the microphone on the guitar
Oh yeah oh yeah
Wo-wo-oh wo-wo-oh wo-wo I'm still waiting
I'm a waiting, I'm a waiting wo-wo-oh wo-wo-oh wo-wo
And don't turn it down, I just wanna do a little experiment [Spoken]
[Feedback]
'K, I like that [Spoken]
[Feedback]
Just like Jimi Hendrix [Spoken]
[Feedback]
[Vocally mimics riff from Purple Haze]
Anybody got a cigarette lighter, I'll set my guitar on fire [Spoken]
I think you could turn down just a little bit. OK that's good and n-now, don't touch that dial [Spoken]

watch what you're doing
[Go to Song Page]
Watch what you're doing take one
You watch what you doin'
I hope you heared me
[Music starts]
Mo' guitar [Spoken]
Mmm, mama killed a chicken, she thought it was a duck
She put it on the table with his legs sticking up
Papa broke his glasses when he fell down drunk
Tried to drown the kitty cat, turned out to be a skunk
You gotta watch what you're doing
Didn't you know
Yeah you gotta watch where you're going
Didn't you know
Well little did I know when I gave my heart
That a self deceived woman would tear it all apart
She told me that she loved me, I believed her and then
I caught her running round with my best friend
You gotta watch what you're doing
Eh, you know what I'm talking about?
I knew a girl, sweet as could be
But she fell for a man like a chain sawed tree
She listened to his lies, was fooled by his charms
Now she's sitting with a baby in her arms
You gotta watch what you're doing
Didn't you know
You gotta watch what you're doing
You oughta know that
You gotta watch out
Watch out
Well everything's fine till things get bad
Then you sit around thinking 'bout the good times you had
But it ain't no good to lead a life of sin
If you don't shape up you know you'll never get in
You better watch what you're doing
Ah don't you know
You oughta know where you're going
Do you know
Some folks smile, they seem alright
Then you later find out it was an angel of light
Try to love everybody but don't be blind
'Cause some kind of people try to mess your mind
You gotta watch who you know yeah
Some folks say that the good Lord's dead
That he doesn't exist 'cept inside your head
I wonder how many gonna be surprised
When they look straight up and see him coming through the skies
You gotta watch what you're doing
Don't you know
'Cause he does yeah
You know he watches what you're doing
Yes he does
You better know where you're going (Ooh ooh)
Yeah yeah yeaow (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Well well well hutz sut sut
Well well well hutz hutz a mutza
C'mon pilgrim, you know he loves you
He loves you more than he loves this cloven earth
Don't make your life bad and start acting like an idiot
I was walking down the road
Down by the road
And I bumped into you
Watch what you're doing take one
You watch what you doin'
I hope you heared me

moonshine
[Go to Song Page]
When the moon shines on the moonshine
On the still upon the hill
You can smell it drifting down through the pines
And the night time is the right time
For the stuff to get enough of
The moonlight to make it taste fine
(Gimme a sip of that Margaret [Spoken])
You can tell it when you smell it (You done had enough [Spoken])
It'll knock you off your feet (I've only had one drink [Spoken])
(Ned Parsons stole my shovel [Spoken]) So you might wanna be sitting down
(Yo baby come 'ere [Spoken])
Get your fill at the still for a wrinkled dollar bill (Get that dawg outta here [Spoken])
(Hand me that copper tubing [Spoken])
Well you can buy it from the good parson Brown (Right in here [Spoken])
(Get collared for that dog [Spoken])
You can buy it from the good parson Brown
(Howdee reverend [Spoken])
(Reverend [Spoken])
Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm
All the nosy revenuers wanna meet up with the brewers
Hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm-mm
Brother Bill is at the still and he's hiding in the hills
Where he bottles the brew every day
And uncle Frank is in the holler
Selling two jugs for a dollar
Well who says that crime does not pay (Yea-ay)
Who says that crime doesn't pay
Ah ha
Brother Bill is at the still and he's hiding in the hills

parson brown
[Go to Song Page]
Now parson Brown one Sunday morn
Was giving good advice
He warned his congregation
To refrain from sin and vice
He drew a firey picture
'Bout the devil down below
And said folks, you've got to quit your sinning
Or to hell your bound to go
Why hell is fool o' loose women, full o' whiskey, cards and dice
Tell Satan to get behind thee
And prepare thou for paradise
Well Mose Jackson jumped up from his chair
And said parson, is that true
That hell is full of what you said
Well then let me say to you
If what you say is the positive truth
Oh death where is thy sting
I don't care now about no pearly gate
Or to hear the angels sing
H-hmm
With booze and women down below
Oh mister devil and I would just put on a show
'Cause if what you say is the positive truth
Oh death where is thy sting
If what you say is the positive truth
Oh death where is thy sting
I don't care now 'bout no pearly gates
Or to hear the angels sing
With booze and women down below
Oh mister devil and I are gonna put on some show
'Cause if what you say is the positive truth
Oh death where is thy sting

Ah ah ah ah ah ah

There are two roads in this life
One is narrow, one is wide
And I know which road to take
If I'm to reach the other side
I love the Lord
And he's coming back one day
Stranger won't you change your sinful ways
Stranger you can laugh
Go ahead and speak with scorn
But I bet you won't be laughing
On that resurrection morn
I love the Lord
And he's coming back one day
Stranger won't you change your sinful way
Yeah [Very faint]
Woo
Oh yeah
Well stranger you could think we're crazy
You could say that we are fools
But I know where I will be
When he's making up his jewels
I love the Lord
And he's coming back one day
Stranger won't you change your sinful way
Yeah two roads in this life
One is narrow one is wide
And I know which road to take
If I'm to reach the other side
I love the Lord
And he's coming back one day
Stranger won't you change your sinful ways yeah

stop this flight
[Go to Song Page]
Sixteen hours to London
Flying on a DC-10
I wonder if when this plane sets down
I'll ever be able to walk again
I spent thirty five days in Europe
Singing 'til my voice is gone
Never time enough to get a good night's sleep
What is this road that I've been running on
You gotta stop this flight
I got to get back to earth
Hey I'm a human being (being being being being)
An' God knows what that's worth (worth worth worth worth worth worth worth)
I'm moving like a dancer on a darkened stage
But I'll be risen from this prison at the end of the age
Yeah oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh ayah
I've been locked up in the studio
And this is no way to live
They never like the music 'til the records sell
And they always want more than you can possibly give
I've been struggling for inspiration
And hoping that the songs won't flop
I've been waiting like a beggar for the option to drop
You've got to live up to the contract 'til they tell you to stop
You gotta stop this flight
Gotta get back to earth
We are human beings (beings beings beings beings)
An' God knows what that's worth (worth worth worth worth worth worth)
We're not meant to be imprisoned in this earthly cage
And end up screaming like a demon at the end of the age
We gotta stop this flight
We gotta stop it, stop it, stop it
You gotta stop this flight (Wo oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)
You gotta get back to earth (Wo oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)
We are human beings (Wo oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh)

if you don't love the lord
[Go to Song Page]
I see them come
I see them go
They climb so high and fall so low
They sing so sweet
In the spotlight's glare
They're full of grace and savoire-faire
Behind the scenes
They're full of greed
They press you down until you bleed
They use their power
To make the headlines
But they will end up in the breadlines
The only thing I know
And the bible says it's so
The only thing I know
Is if you don't love the Lord you'll fall
They run in packs
Poisoned with pride
Caught up in sins they've learned to hide
They prowl in darkness
They are such fools
They seek earth's gold
Not heaven's jewels
The more you give
The more they take
Until desire becomes their ache
They call you friend
Oh pretty please
The practised warmth of enemies
Well the only thing I know
And the bible says it's so
The only only thing I know
Is if you don't love the Lord you'll fall
I had the blues (I've had the blues)
But now I'm feeling well (But now I'm feeling well)
You've got to aim for heaven (You've got to aim for heaven)
Or you'll end up in hell (End up, end up in hell)
You've got to fight that fight (Fight that fight)
You've got to run that race (Run that race)
Or you'll never see him face to face (Or you'll never see him face to face)
A soldiers heart
And love of wealth
A fear of death
That soon will undermine your health
Oh so remote
And out of reach
If you don't change
You'll end up stranded at the, stranded at the beach
You call it love
God calls it lust
You burn inside, faith turned to rust
The thinning hair
The lizard grip
The dreams of glory slowly slip
And the only thing I know
The only thing I know
The only thing I know
Is if you don't love the Lord you'll fall

what's wrong with this body
[Go to Song Page]
If a man should divorce the wife of his youth
Just to marry another woman
And his life goes off course and he strays from the truth
Let his fall be to all a kind of omen
What's wrong with this body
This body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
This body needs healing
It needs to be filled
We've got to stand on our feet and start trying
When a friend turns his back and grows jealous and cruel
And tries to destroy your reputation
You will gain what he takes
If you pray for your friend
And you concentrate on your own salvation
If a woman deserts her faithful husband at home
And pursues other men, she'll lose contentment
Let him pray for renewal and find comfort through faith
And recover from bitterness and resentment
I said what's wrong with this body
This body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
This body needs healing
It needs to be filled
We've got to stand on our feet and start trying
Could you turn this piano up louder so I don't have to hit it so hard?
Louder than that
Is it up yet?
I'm getting old [Spoken]
Many are called but just a few walk the path
And while others get sidetracked by illusion
Some of you others, some of you brothers just stand there and laugh
And the world keeps on stumbling in confusion
And there are false ministers preaching from the conceits of their minds
Misleading their congregations
They twist and bend the scriptures for financial designs
And they are keeping revival from our nation
I said what's wrong with this body
This body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
This body needs healing
It needs to be filled
We've got to stand on our feet
We've got to get on our knees
We've got to fall on our face
And start dying
If a man should divorce the wife of his youth
Just to marry another woman
And his life goes off course and he strays from the truth
Let his fall be to all a kind of omen
What's wrong with this body
This body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
This body needs healing
It needs to be filled
We've got to stand on our feet and start trying
When a friend turns his back and grows jealous and cruel

unlucky blues
[Go to Song Page]
Okay, if I can remember Unlucky Blues and if I can't you better help me [Spoken]
Well I was born about eighteen years ago
I wrote this a long time ago [Spoken]
Well I was born about eighteen years ago in a little wooden corrugated roofed shack
I was born about eighteen years ago on the wrong side of the tracks
I never knew my father, I never
Don't, don't clap for this song, I'll never remember it [Spoken]
I never had a home
I don't know where I came from and I don't know where I'm going
I was born to be unlucky from my shoulder to my shoes
And I guess I'm stuck with my unlucky blue
Ah h-hmm h-hmm hmm-ow
When I was just a young boy I was raised on beans and trout
That's a fish [Spoken]
On my seventh birthday, well my mama she kicked me out
She said I'm good for nothing, no one treats me kind
I don't care, pretty soon I'm gonna leave this world behind
I was born to be unlucky from my shoulders to my shoes
And I guess I'm stuck with my unlucky blues
I jumped into the river to try to put myself away
A man jumped in and saved me and he spoiled a perfect day
He dragged me to the river's edge, he said he knew I had a need
An' he pulled out a soggy bible and that man began to read
He told me things I did not know, I'm glad I did not die
'Cause he told me God's my father and my real home is in the sky
And I said
Woo-ooh hoo hoo hoo hoo
I was very excited but I couldn't think of anything to say [Spoken]
Woohoohoo ETC
He said I'd done a very very foolish thing to try to drown myself and die
And I told him I was glad he happened to be passing by
He said God would forgive me if I repented of my sins
Then he said I must be baptised and he threw me in again
I was born to be unlucky, I knew it, from my shoulders to my soaking shoes
I said I must be stuck with these unlucky blues
Ah ah eh
But my life has changed in many many ways, I'm such a different man
I know now who my father is and I know just where I stand
With one foot up in heaven, one foot on the ground
I travel through this world of ours, I try to spread God's love around
I was born to be unlucky from my shoulders to my shoes
And I came unstuck from my unlucky blues
Ah ah wo oh wo oh oh-oh and you can too
Yes you can, all you gotta do is like you know
Get up one morning and you don't feel so good
And you get up kinda say I got the blues
And you down the, try to jump in the river
And eh, somebody come and get you and you'll be saved too

i dance before the lord
[Go to Song Page]
I just changed, I don't have to do this up [Spoken]
My feet are on the rock, my name is on the roll
But moving and a grooving does not satisfy my soul
So if I’m down I go off on my own, ah ba bow
And if I feel the need I dance before the throne, yeah
People think I’m strange
I guess they think that I'm a fool
You know they shake their heads in church
Laugh at me in school
I believe someone rolled away the stone
And I can't help it, it's what I believe. I believe it [Spoken]
If I feel the need I dance before the throne
Yeah, just like David
Alright, go Jonny go
Ah da uh ah ah
Goliath had a sword, I have got a stone, David had a stone a-huh, hah
I've got the Lord, I am not alone
Wey-yeah
So if you knock me down baby
I will not fight you back, uh-uh
'Cause God loves all his children
Red, brown, yellow, white and black
Alright take it Heikki
[Imitates harmonica]

slow fast
[Go to Song Page]
I'm on a slow fast
Wonder how much longer I should make it last
I'm on a slow fast
Waiting for a future to improve my past
I wrote this song twenty three years ago
I don't know the words
I started playing this here chord
The memory of that lyric, well that's what I heard
In my mind I heard I'm on a slow fast
I wonder how much longer I can make this last
I'm on a slow fast
Praying for my future to improve my past
Ah da da da da da da
Ah-din da da da
Sometimes you fast to get your prayers answered or
Remove your sin
I'll probably never sing this song again
I'm on a slow fast
Hmm-mm I wonder how much longer I can make this last
I'm on a slow fast
Wonder how much longer this song should last
I'm on a sl-hhhh

dove l'etude
[Go to Song Page]
I get so tired of being a folk singer. I miss not being able to play with a band, that's because of doctor's orders now so tonight I brought my Marshall [Spoken]
All christian music sounds safe
Ah ah ah
If you wanna be heard you've got to play the radio game
Or you just say what's on your heart
That's a honest way to start
I've got no violins
I don't beautify my sins
I don't wanna be top forty
Just wanna share the Lord-ah
Don't want a Dove or Grammy
I just want a holy sword

standing at the crossroads
[Go to Song Page]
Oh Australia is where the beautiful people are
You got so many crazy kind of animals
And at night you got millions of stars
But you must love one another
I see those aboriginals standing outside the bar
You must love one another
Well I'm standing at the crossroads
Don't know which way to go
I'm standing at the crossroads
Don't know which way to go
Some people take the high road
Some people take the low
Way back among the woods among the evergreens
Down near New Orleans
There lived a ???
A little boy named Johnny B Goode
Never ever learned to read or write too well
But he guitar just like a ringing a bell
Oh oh (go)
Go Johnny go go go go-oh
Go Johnny go go go woo
Go Johnny go go go
Go Johnny go go go
Oh oh-oh oh-ah
Johnny be good
No bridge [Spoken]
If you are standing at the crossroads
And you don't feel well
You see Johnny guitar
And he's playing just like a ringing a bell
Then you must tell him this
Tell him that the high road goes to heaven
But the low road goes to hell
Go go Johnny go go go, take that high road
Go go Johnny go go go, take that high road
See that cross made of wood, little Johnny be good
Thanks for coming to the last concert of the last tour
And if you're standing at the crossroads and you don't know which way to go
Just remember Jesus is coming back to earth
Sweet chariot's gonna swing low [Spoken]
Standing at the crossroads, which way should we go
Standing at the crossroads, which way should we go
Jesus stands at your heart and he keeps on knocking and knocking on your door
He keeps on knocking on your door
Go wo-oh

rock the flock
[Go to Song Page]
You gotta open your mouth
Don't play no games
Learn to walk proud
Don't live in shame
Tell everybody 'xactly where you're coming from
You gotta rock the flock till kingdom come
All you mothers and fathers
Living in this world
Treat your children better
So all the boys and girls
Can grow up in love and not feel numb
You gotta rock the flock till kingdom come
Speak the truth
Scream and yell
Say it loud so they can hear you t'ward the gates of hell
Don't close your eyes
Don't hide your light
Shake off your fear and jump into the fight
You gotta hit the streets
And spread the word around
Tell everybody you meet
To lay their burden down
You've gotta love one another, beat the drum
You gotta rock the flock till kingdom come
You gotta open your mouth
Don't play no games
Learn to walk proud

a woman not a maid
[Go to Song Page]
Don't need a keeper for my house
I want a keeper for my soul
Don't want someone to fix my food
I need someone to feed my soul
I am not using you
I am loving you
And what was nothing but a part
Because of you became a whole
I need a woman not a maid
I need a lover not a toy
I don't want comfort for the night
I want a partner for the road
I am not using you
I am loving you
I want someone to share the joy
I want someone to share the load
What's the reason two lives come together
Sometimes people make each other sad
Sometimes sunshine turns into bad weather
Baby please believe me I will never make you sad
I want a woman who will love me
Who will share the years ahead
I want someone who I can trust
I want to love her all my life
I won't be using you
I'll be loving you
I want someone to share my bed
And not a mistress but a wife
What's the reason two lives come together
Sometimes people make each other sad
Sometimes sunshine turns into bad weather
Baby please believe me I will never treat you bad
I need a keeper for my house
I need a keeper for my soul
Don't want someone to fix my food
Unless they also feed my soul
I am not using you
I am loving you
And what was nothing but a part
Because of you became a whole

Talk about love
Talk about love
Saw her in the flat plains
As in the streets all alone
Ooh-wa-la ba-de same da na
Na na wan on the moon up above

She was talking about love
We were talkin' 'bout love
Oh push comes to shove
And the Lord smiles from above
Talkin' 'bout love

Doesn't matter what you worry 'bout
Can't either hurry you bow
Stand still
If you're walking then you're walking uphill

Matrix, visible on disc rear, in reverse: '26211 3 8 GATHEREDMOMENTS', 'IFPI L488'. Mould markings, not reversed: 'IFPI8143'
The original issue (above) was quickly replaced. Larry's skin was excessively red on the front cover, Unlucky Blues had no asterisk against it on the rear cover, and there were one or two typing errors in the booklet. In addition to fixing these issues, the replacement swapped two of the booklet pages around, and intriguingly changed the asterisks against What's Wrong With This Body to indicate that it was a previously unreleased song. It wasn't! The discs / audio content are identical
