dark passage
[Go to Song Page]
Twenty some odd years ago
I fell and missed the moon
I guess I must have reached too high
I guess it was too soon
For me to understand the loss
That I would travel with
And how my path would wander
As I struggled with the myth
That love is what you make it
And your hope must never cease
So that all the love you give away
Will secure a house of peace
As the harbour fall covered the ship
I strode out for a walk
A man in black came up to me
And he began to talk
He said son you are so far away
You must find the strength to move
Closer to your destiny
You've nothing else to prove
Reach out and touch the future
Look for the open door
Then his image slowly faded
And I saw him nevermore
I didn't understand him
I was so much younger then
I didn't have the courage
You expect from older men
I was tired from my long journey
Just returning from the wars
Where the dark angels had wounded me
'Til I couldn't stand no more
When I met the woman meant for me
I couldn't look her in the eye
And I kept my feelings to myself
As she turned and said goodbye
Well there's a world of wicked people
Who will take all that you own
They will strip you of your heart and flesh
And discard your sacred bones
They will tie you down with lies and schemes
And say that you can't leave
But they will bury you in lawyers
'Til you cannot even breathe
They will try hard to destroy you
But if you watch then you will see
They have no real imagination
And they lack true charity
She was young when I first met her
But she seemed as old as me
And I kicked the stones beneath my feet
And spoke too quietly
She couldn't hear my heartbeat
Or see my flashing eyes
I was fearful in her presence
I thought she'd see through my disguise
She knew how much I loved her
And she'd feed my every thought
But she was too much busy thinking
Of all the rules that she'd been taught
When I look up at the stars
And I see the depth of night
I stare solemn at creation
And the moon's reflected light
It takes its brightness from the sun
It has no power of its own
And that's how I sometimes see myself
A man on whom love once had shone
There's a castle standing on a hill
In a far and distant place
I could lock myself inside it
But I still would see her face
There is no one in this dark world
Who can give the love she needs
I feel her sadness in my spirit
And her wounds from which love bleeds
I can almost hear her crying
I know what she's thinking of
But sometimes I still wonder if
She's better off without my love
My death is moving toward me
Though it still seems miles away
It's almost reached me several times
In it's bed I'll someday lay
And sometimes at night I'm sleeping
I think I hear her call my name
And I sit up and reach out for her
But it's always just the same
Her touch is far beyond my reach
Because I was so young and blind
But she'll always be the one I love
The one I left behind

bombs
[Go to Song Page]
Yellow raindrops falling from on high
While a dark red cloud fills up the sky
I don’t want our love to end this way
What about the songs we haven’t sung
What about the things we haven’t done
What’s the matter with this world today
If the bombs fall, baby I love you
If they end it all, baby I love you
Through it all, I want you to know I love you
You and I are still so very young
And with love the best is yet to come
Every year we're older, a-watch this world grow colder
If the bombs fall, baby I love you
If they end it all, baby I love you
Through it all, I want you to know I love you
And through the years and all the long hard miles
We’ll shed some tears but we will share the smiles
Don’t cry, I want you to know I love you
This world of ours, been here a long long time
The stars above, I love to watch them shine
I need your love to live this life of mine
Ah wo-oh wo-oh wo-oh
If the bombs fall (baby I love you)
If they end it all (baby I love you)
Through it all, I want you to know I love you
(Baby I love you)
If the bombs fall (Don't cry, don't cry) (baby I love you)
(Don't cry, don't cry, don't cry) If they end it all (baby I love you)

if god is my father
[Go to Song Page]
If God is my father
And you are my brother
Then why can't we bother
To really reach out and love one another
Why do we keep on acting the way we do
The way we treat each other
It must break his heart in two
Once we were happy
Oh yes, once in the garden
But then a lie broke the stillness
And our hearts began to harden
And hoping to be wiser man has reached too far
Sometimes I think that we've advanced
But then I look at where we are
And oh I cry
I feel like crying
Oh I cry
I feel like crying
Why do we argue
Why are there so many churches
With half of them empty
And some represent a million dollar purchase
What's happened to the message given by our lord
To take his gospel to the streets
And share our money with the poor
And learn to love
He said love is the greatest thing
We've got to learn to love
Love is the greatest thing
If God is my father
Then you are my brother
And why can't we bother
To really reach out and love one another
Why do we keep on acting the way we do
The way we treat each other
It just breaks my heart in two
We've got to learn to love
Love is the greatest thing [x2]
Oh ooh ooh ooh wooh
You've got to learn to love (Learn to love) [x4]
Yes you've got to learn to love
You've got to learn to love [x8]
(Learn to love is the greatest thing)
Learn to love, you've got to learn to love [x2]
You've got to learn to love (Learn to love, you've got to learn to love [x2])
You've got to learn to love (Oh) (Learn to love, you've got to learn to love) [x3]

messiah
[Go to Song Page]
Messiah took this world by force
Messiah took the world by force
I could hear children crying
I could see people dying
I could see the cities falling
I could hear the saviour calling
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah took this world by force) He took this world by force [x2]
Red clouds blotted out the sun
Darkness fell on everyone
Rivers of blood were running
I could see the armies coming
I could see their weapons falling
I could hear the angels calling
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah took this world by force) He took this world by force
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah) He took this world by force
The bear from the north
And the dragon from the east
Descended upon the armies of Israel
And slaughtered them
And in that moment
The chosen of Israel cried out for Messiah
And Messiah came
Messiah Messiah
(Messiah Messiah Messiah took this world by force)
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah took this world by force) He took this world by force [x2]

keeper for my heart
[Go to Song Page]
Don't need a keeper for my house
I want a keeper for my heart
Don't want someone to fix my food
I need someone to feed my soul
I am not using you
I am loving you
And what was nothing but a part
Because of you became a whole
I need a woman not a maid
I need a lover not a toy
I don't want comfort for the night
I want a partner for the road
I am not using you
I am loving you
I want someone to share the joy
I want someone to share the load
What's the reason two lives come together
Sometimes people make each other sad
Sometimes sunshine turns into bad weather
Baby please believe me I will never treat you bad
What's the reason two lives come together
Sometimes people make each other sad
Sometimes sunshine turns into bad weather
Well baby please believe me I will never treat you bad
I want a woman who will love me
And will share the years ahead
I want someone who I can trust
I want to love her all my life
I won't be using you
I'll be loving you
I want someone to share my bed
And not a mistress but a wife
I am not using you
I am loving you
I want a wom'n to share my bed
And not a mistress but a wife
Oh wo-oh
Wo-oh oh oh
Woo ooh ah-ah-ah

if you don't love the lord
[Go to Song Page]
I see them come
I see them go
They climb so high and fall so low
They sing so sweet
In the spotlight's glare
They're full of grace and savoire-faire
Behind the scenes
They're full of greed
They press you down until you bleed
They use their power
To make the headlines
But they will end up in the breadlines
The only thing I know
And the bible says it's so
The only thing I know
Is if you don't love the Lord you'll fall
They run in packs
Poisoned with pride
Caught up in sins they've learned to hide
They prowl in darkness
They are such fools
They seek earth's gold
Not heaven's jewels
The more you give
The more they take
Until desire becomes their ache
They call you friend
Oh pretty please
The practised warmth of enemies
Well the only thing I know
And the bible says it's so
The only only thing I know
Is if you don't love the Lord you'll fall
I had the blues (I've had the blues)
But now I'm feeling well (But now I'm feeling well)
You've got to aim for heaven (You've got to aim for heaven)
Or you'll end up in hell (End up, end up in hell)
You've got to fight that fight (Fight that fight)
You've got to run that race (Run that race)
Or you'll never see him face to face (Or you'll never see him face to face)
A soldiers heart
And love of wealth
A fear of death
That soon will undermine your health
Oh so remote
And out of reach
If you don't change
You'll end up stranded at the, stranded at the beach
You call it love
God calls it lust
You burn inside, faith turned to rust
The thinning hair
The lizard grip
The dreams of glory slowly slip
And the only thing I know
The only thing I know
The only thing I know
Is if you don't love the Lord you'll fall
I see them come

i've got to learn
[Go to Song Page]
You came into my life
You took me off the shelf
You told my name to me
And taught me what to do
But then you went away
You left me by myself
I feel completely lost
And lonely without you
Why'd you go, baby
I guess you know
I've got to learn to live without you
I've got to learn to live without you
I've got to learn to live without you
Without you
Today I thought I saw you
Walking down the street
With someone else
I turned my head and faced the wall
I started crying
And my heart fell to my feet
But when I looked again
It wasn't you at all
Why'd you go, baby
I guess you know
I've got to learn to live without you
I've got to learn to live without you
I've got to learn to live without you
Without you
It's just no good without you [x3]
I've got to learn to live without you [x6]
You came into my life
You took me off the shelf
You told my name to me

why can't you be good
[Go to Song Page]
Oh ho oh
Why can't you behave
Why can't you be good
You don't even try
To do the things you should
What is the reason
I’d like to know
Why you can't be good
You go into the bedroom
You say you’ve got to powder your nose
But the powder is cocaine (Ooh ooh ooh)
I see traces on your clothes (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Well what is the reason
I’d like to know
Why you can't be good
Ba ba ba ba ba
Take another look inside your dreams tonight (Aah aah)
When you go to sleep (Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba)
Try and find the reasons why you've lost your way
Like some little sheep
You say that you love me
And that your heart is true
But you’ve got so many other lovers (Oh oh)
Well what am I supposed to do
Do you love me
What is the reason
I’d like to know
Why you can't be good
Take another look inside your dreams tonight
When you go to sleep (Ooh ooh)
Try and find the reasons why you've lost your way
Like some little sheep
Your face, it looks so pretty
But your mind is such a mess
You’ve got a cold and wicked heart
It's beatin’ underneath your breath
Well what is the reason (Ooh ooh)
I’d like to know (Ooh ooh)
What is the reason (Ooh ooh ooh)
I’d like to know (Ooh ooh)
What is the reason (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
I’d like to know (Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Why you can't be good (Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Why can't you be good
Why can't you be good babe
You know you break my heart
You say you love me but I know it's not so
I can't follow you every place you go
Why can't you be good
You know I feel a little lonely
Oh oh oh
Oh woh
Yeah yeah
Oh ho oh
Why can't you behave
Why can't you be good
You don't even try

out of my system
[Go to Song Page]
The switch is off, the lights are out
It took no special wisdom
To pull the plug and cut the wires
And now you're out of my system
It took me years to change the gears (Ah ah ah)
It was so hard to twist 'em (Ah ah)
The pain you caused has been erased (Ah ah ah)
Baby get out of my system (Ah ah)
You're out of my
You're out of my system [x2]
You'd turn me on with words of love
Hmm I just couldn't resist 'em
You never meant the things you said, baby
You're out of my system
Oh oh oh oh
You're out of my
You're out of my system
You're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my system [x2]
Ooh ooh oh uh uh ooh
The life we had, the things we did
Hmm there was a time I missed 'em baby
I used to lie awake at night, all right
An', you're out of my system
You're out of my system
You ran around with other men
Hmm baby, you made love and kissed 'em
But go ahead do what you want
I don't care, you're out of my system
Heyah you broke my heart and led me on
You made so many plans, I could list them
You set me up then walked away (You're out of my, you're out of my)
Okay get out of my system baby baby baby (You're out of my system)
You're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my system [x4]
The switch is off, the lights are out
It took no special wisdom
To pull the plug and cut the wires
And now you're out of my system
It took me years to change the gears (Ah ah ah)
It was so hard to twist 'em (Ah ah)
The pain you caused has been erased (Ah ah ah)
Baby get out of my system (Ah ah)
You're out of my
You're out of my system [x2]
You'd turn me on with words of love
Hmm I just couldn't resist 'em
You never meant the things you said, baby
You're out of my system
Oh oh oh oh
You're out of my
You're out of my system
You're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my system [x2]
Ooh ooh oh uh uh ooh
The life we had, the things we did
Hmm there was a time I missed 'em baby
I used to lie awake at night, all right
An', you're out of my system
You're out of my system
You ran around with other men
Hmm baby, you made love and kissed 'em
But go ahead do what you want
I don't care, you're out of my system
Heyah you broke my heart and led me on
You made so many plans, I could list them
You set me up then walked away (You're out of my, you're out of my)
Okay get out of my system baby baby baby (You're out of my system)
You're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my system [x4]
stop this flight
[Go to Song Page]
Sixteen hours to London
Flying on a DC-10
I wonder if when this plane sets down
I'll ever be able to walk again
I spent thirty five days in Europe
Singing 'til my voice is gone
Never time enough to get a good night's sleep
What is this road that I've been running on
You gotta stop this flight
I got to get back to earth
Hey I'm a human being (being being being being)
An' God knows what that's worth (worth worth worth worth worth worth worth)
I'm moving like a dancer on a darkened stage
But I'll be risen from this prison at the end of the age
Yeah oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh ayah
I've been locked up in the studio
And this is no way to live
They never like the music 'til the records sell
And they always want more than you can possibly give
I've been struggling for inspiration
And hoping that the songs won't flop
I've been waiting like a beggar for the option to drop
You've got to live up to the contract 'til they tell you to stop
You gotta stop this flight
Gotta get back to earth
We are human beings (beings beings beings beings)
An' God knows what that's worth (worth worth worth worth worth worth)
We're not meant to be imprisoned in this earthly cage
And end up screaming like a demon at the end of the age
We gotta stop this flight
We gotta stop it, stop it, stop it

what's wrong with this body
[Go to Song Page]
If a man turns his back on the faith of his youth
To pursue earthly ways, he'll lose contentment
When he falls on hard times we should pray for that friend
Help to heal him from bitterness and resentment
What's wrong with this body
This body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
This body needs healing
We need to be filled
We've got to stand to our feet and start trying
When your friend slipped away, caught up in their own lies
And fake rumours, embellished your reputation
Then the Lord will restore the years the locusts have eaten
If you concentrate on your own salvation
What's wrong with this body
This body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
This body needs healing
We need to be filled
We've got to stand to our feet and start trying
When the strength of your hope fades and withers within
You must cast all your cares upon heaven
You must die unto self and live unto God
And keep walking the path of the forgiven
What's wrong with this body
This body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
This body needs healing
We need to be filled
We've got to stand to our feet and start trying [x2]
Let him pray for that da-nun
Da la ta da da da
And recover from bitterness and resentment
Well what's wrong with this body
This body is ill

baby out of wedlock
[Go to Song Page]
I had a baby out of wedlock
Her old man got me in a headlock
I was an unwed father
But don't bother feeling sorry for me
I took a lot of LSD
I smoked a lotta marja-weeny
But it did not help me
It did not set me free
Oh Jesus, why'd you go and do it
Why’d you help someone like me
You saved me, you forgave me
And you know you set me free
You took away my problems
One by one
I guess you knew what you were doing
When you sent your son
You know the way that I was living
Was like taking without giving
And I hurt a lot of people
And I lost my friends
I spent a little time in prison
But I know the Lord is risen
And I'll never need
To be locked up again yeah
Oh Jesus, why'd you go and do it
Why’d you help someone like me
You saved me, you forgave me
And you know you set me free
You took away my problems
One by one
I guess you knew what you were doing
When you sent your son
I never thought about tomorrow
'Til my life was filled with sorrow
Walking down a road not knowing
What was ahead
Well a man can spend his days
Living out his evil ways
Or he can try to find the road
Before he's dead
Jesus, why'd you go and do it
Why’d you help someone like me
You saved me, you forgave me
And I know you set me free
You know you took away my problems
One by one

watch what you're doing
[Go to Song Page]
Watch what you're doing take one
Mo' guitar [Spoken]
Mmm, mama killed a chicken, she thought it was a duck
She put it on the table with its legs sticking up
Papa broke his glasses when he fell down drunk
Tried to drown the kitty cat, turned out to be a skunk
You gotta watch what you're doing
Didn't you know
Yeah you gotta watch where you're going
Didn't you know
Well little did I know when I gave my heart
That a self deceived woman would tear it all apart
She told me that she loved me, I believed her and then
I caught her running round with my best friend
You gotta watch what you're doing
Eh, you know what I'm talking about?
I knew a girl, sweet as could be
But she fell for a man like a chain sawed tree
She listened to his lies, was fooled by his charms
Now she's sitting with a baby in her arms
You gotta watch what you're doing
Didn't you know
You gotta watch what you're doing
You oughta know that
You gotta watch out
Watch out
Well everything's fine till things get bad
Then you sit around thinking 'bout the good times you had
But it ain't no good to lead a life of sin
If you don't shape up you know you'll never get in
You better watch what you're doing
Ah don't you know
You oughta know where you're going
Do you know
Some folks smile, they seem alright
Then you later find out it was an angel of light
Try to love everybody but don't be blind
'Cause some kind of people try to mess your mind
You gotta watch who you know yeah
Some folks say that the good Lord's dead
That he doesn't exist 'cept inside your head
I wonder how many gonna be surprised
When they look straight up and see him coming through the skies
You gotta watch what you're doing
Don't you know
'Cause he does yeah
You know he watches what you're doing
Yes he does
You better know where you're going (Ooh ooh)
Yeah yeah yeaow (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Well well well hutz sut sut
Well well well hutz hutz a mutza
C'mon pilgrim, you know he loves you
He loves you more than he loves this cloven earth
Don't make your life bad and start acting like an idiot
I was walking down the road
Down by the road
And I bumped into you
Watch what you're doing take one

the tune
[Go to Song Page]
Once there was a tune
And everyone knew how it went
But as time went by
People began to forget
Until at last no one could remember
And there was hatred and wars and death
Then one day somebody said how does the tune go
There is no tune, there never was, it’s only a myth
These were the philosophers
You mean there's no tune at all
Well, it doesn't really matter what tune you play
As long as you play something
These were the religious leaders
And so the world played on
And there was hatred, wars and death
Then one day the people became weary of this song
And they all sat down on the side of a hill
And suddenly they heard a very strange voice
And somebody said that sounds like the tune
There is no tune, there never was, there never will be
Well it doesn't really matter what tune you play
As long as you play something
And you don't hurt anybody, especially me
But the people listened
And a man appeared before them
With a smile on his face
And a sad look too
And he was singing the tune
And some of the people began to sing along
La la la la la…
And the people who loved him
Decided to follow him
But the people who hated him
Decided to kill him
And they did
And when it was finished
They went back to their houses of philosophy and religion
And they sat down to their tables to eat and to drink
Suddenly, they were interrupted by a familiar voice
And they ran to their windows and looked outside
To see who it was
It was him
And they became confused and afraid
And they wondered how they could be rid of him once and for all
And while they were watching him
Something very strange happened
How did he do that
I don't really know, but he's gone
And when trouble goes, you don't ask where
He'll never return, ever again, I hope
Yet again they were interrupted
This time they ran out into the streets to lay hold of him
But they couldn't find him
Just a lot of people smiling
And they all knew the tune
La la la la la…
And when the people made a mistake
They stopped, and they listened
La la la la la…
That's how they knew the tune
Because they listened
La la la la la…
And if you listen you'll hear it
It's all around you
Just listen to your radio
Watch television
Listen to your leaders
To the authorities
To the governors
To the experts
But if you really listen
You can hear another tune
But you have to listen quietly
And you have to listen every day
Once there was a tune
And everyone knew how it went
But as time went by

epitaph
[Go to Song Page]
He knew [Spoken]
When the whole world spoke one language
When the whole world served one god
Back when men first toiled in the rocky soil
And worked the ground upon which they trod
Back when Adam walked with God in the garden
Back when the serpent first spoke to Eve
Back when men first fell and the gates of hell
Opened up and we were all deceived
Yeah well that's when Jesus knew I'd love ya
That’s when Jesus knew I’d care
And that’s when Jesus knew that you’d love me too
And made sure that you’d be standing there
Yeah
Back when the world first moved in upheaval
Back when men invented war
And they stood in the mud among the bodies and the blood
And they could not remember what for
Back when Cain raised his hand against Abel
And his soul was stained with blood
Back when men became so evil
That the world was finally washed by the flood
Oh baby that’s when Jesus knew I’d love ya
Yeah that’s when Jesus knew I’d care
Yeah that’s when Jesus knew you’d love me too
And made sure that you’d be standing there
Oh baby that’s when Jesus knew I’d need you
To ease the emptiness and sorrow too
He knew right from start
When he looked into my heart
That I’d be lonely till I found you yeah
I found you
Yeah I found you
[Coughs]
Back when ah Nimrod swayed the remnant
And built the walls of Babylon
Back when David held the throne of Israel
And he wept for Jonathon and Absalom
When men felt the sting of sorrow
And they felt helpless in the night
And their women could sense it and draw closer to their bodies
And say beside them till the morning night
[Coughs]
Yeah that's when Jesus knew I'd love you
Now that, this is switches to eh past tense [Spoken]
That’s when Jesus knew he’d save me
Yeah that’s when Jesus knew he’d die
Yeah that’s when Jesus knew I’d repent and follow
While others might pass him by
That’s when Jesus knew my sorrow
And he knew my heart would break
And he’d be standing there with forgiveness and love
When the tears would make my body shake
Yeah make my body shake
Make my body shake
Yea-uh
That's when Jesus knew
Knew all about you
Knew all about me
Knew all about the tree
That he'd give life upon
And shine bright like the sun
Until the darkness passed away
And became that final day
Yeah that's when Jesus knew he'd suffer
That's when Jesus knew he'd die
Yeah that’s when Jesus knew I’d repent and follow him
Though other friends of mine might pass him by
Yeah that’s when Jesus knew I’d repent and follow
