Sticks & Stones was dedicated to Jon Linn and his brother Jimmy. (Both passed away during the time the album was being compiled). The main disc is mainly a mixture of live recordings sourced from bootlegs and previously released material that had never been released on CD. The second disc was added at the last minute, after Jon Linn died, and gives a brief overview of Jon's work on Solid Rock Records. A recording of Jon playing a composition of his own for Larry is included
Note that many of the track splits on this release are botched, with a number of tracks starting with the last second or so from the preceding track

She's my woman
She's my wife
She's my love, a friend for life
She helps me face the pain and strife
Until my final breath
He's my baby
He's my boy
He's my pride, my secret joy
And I'll be
She's my woman
She's my wife
She's my love, a friend for life
She helps me face the pain and strife
Until my final breath
He's my baby
He's my boy
He's my pride, my secret joy
And I'll be

We're just ??? making music, it's Cornerstone
We're just standing here making music in Cornerstone
'Cause we would rather be with you than to be alone
I got my dark sunglasses
The one I had through my youth
I've got my black leather jacket
I brushed my tooth
Don't read the bible 'less you want to know the truth
Oh yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
We're just ??? making music, it's Cornerstone

Oh no, they'd never let me go to no dances, no sir Paul, you're not supposed to dance. Not supposed to dances. They had nice parties. [Spoken by grandma Rubie]
I grew up in San Francisco, an all black neighbourhood. I remember it very well. I was not allowed to dance. But in my room I could move around if I felt like it, and had the chance. I started playing music when I was five, 1952, writing down my feelings. Everybody's life is different, and so's mine. Isn't that right grandma? [Spoken by Larry]
My feet are on a rock, my name is on a roll
But moving and a grooving does not satisfy my soul
So when I’m down I go off on my own
When I feel moved I dance before the throne
Just like David [Spoken]
My friends think that I’m strange
Guess they think that I’m a fool
You know they look at me in church
And they laugh at me in school
But I believe someone rolled away the stone
And I am not alone
So when I feel the need I dance before the throne
Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh [ooh ooh]
[Note: Due to a botched track split, the final two 'oohs' are at the start of More Than A Dream]

Wanna make something of it? Let's make some music [Spoken]
Dun da
You know the devil was rich on the souls of the poor
We bolted the windows and padlocked the door
A man from Jerusalem got past the alarm
He carried us home, we were safe in his arms
It must be more than a dream yeah [x3]
He said you're forgiven, we said thanks very much
He said if you're planning on living, won't you please keep in touch
We said we'll stick around, we like the way that you talk
When the blind get to see, and the lame get to walk
It must be more than a dream yeah [x3]
Turn the guitar up. I can't feel it in my teeth [Spoken]
He said I must split now, a friend of mine's due
He'll bring wisdom and power and comfort to you
But the fat cats, they killed him and announced the case closed
They spoke out of turn 'cause on the third day he rose
Yeh
It must be more than a dream yeah [x3]
(It must be more than a dream yeah) You know what I'm talking about
(It must be more than a dream yeah) Put that cigarette out
(It must be more than a dream yeah)
(It must be more than a dream yeah)

What? [Crowd shouting song titles]
Are these songs? [Crowd member shouts raindrops keep falling on my head]
Did you say that, the guy with the moustache?
Oh you said it, the guy th', that's bald
Raindrops keep falling on my head
I'm not the kinda guy that wishes he was dead
Not the [mumbles]
Oh I'm never gonna stop complaining
As long the sun keeps raining
Raindrops falling on my bed
I'm not the kinda guy that washes his bedspread
Not that kind of me
So I'm gonna climb the mountain
Cross over the promised land
I'm gonna climb the mountain
Cross over to the promised land
Yeah and raindrops keep falling
Under, I'm under an umbrella stand
Ha ha

Da doo da dun bau
Ba ba bup
I got something that I think you want, yeah
It’s not for sale, it can’t be bought
Mmm, lean closer, let me fill you in
You know, baby you need a friend
I think you do
You got money, you got diamond rings
You’re finding out they’re not worth a thing, yeah yeah
What good’s a soul that cannot sing
Take a chance, take a chance with me, ah-ah-eh
Open your eyes and you will see
I own nothing but I’m a wealthy man
I’ll share it with you if you take his hand
Your daddy’s money gonna give you the blues
Just tell your mama take her hands off of you
Pick up the cross, God’ll see you through
Bau bau bau wey yeah
You know I love you baby
I’ll love you hard and love you long
And I don’t want this love to perish
So listen to the message and the music
And the lyrics of this song
Yeah yeah yeah yeah-uh
Yeah [Very faintly]
A camel in a needle’s eye
Yeah, that’s what we’re talking about [Spoken]
Not all the rich have to die
Just follow closely, do not stray, yeah, yeah
You can probably keep your money
Just give your soul away, yay yay yay yay
Don’t negotiate, just stop and pray
Lifting your head up to heaven and say, yay
Please forgive me, take these things away, yeah
And then keep walking
Yeah, yeah, walk tall doll
You fall down, you get back up again
You carry that cross, a lamp unto your feet
Yeah, a light unto your path
It’s foolishness to them that, to them that perish
Yeah yeah yeah
I’m gonna love you till your dying day, yeah yeah
Until you turn to God or turn me away
What can I do, there’s nothing left to say
It’s up to you, just keep walking, hey hey ey
Oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Whoa-oh
Take his hand
I’m gonna love you till your dying day
Until you turn to God or turn me away
It’s up to you , what can I say, yay

feel like dying
[Go to Song Page]
I feel like dying
Done all I can
Well I lost my woman
She ran off with another man
I feel like dying
Like I got nothing to lose
I know I need something
But I do not need these blues
What am I gonna do about it
What am I gonna do
What am I gonna do about it
What am I gonna do
I feel like dying
And I can't take the strain
My life's in trouble
And I cannot take this pain
I feel like dying
Like this is the end
I need an answer
Oh I need a friend
Well you can just say
What am I gonna do about it
What am I gonna do
What am I gonna do about it
What am I gonna do
I feel like dying
Ah yeah yeah yeah
I feel like dying
I feel like dying
Done all I can

a note from mr god
[Go to Song Page]
I was so down
My chin on the ground
Wondering what to do
Then suddenly I was surprised from out of the blue
The birds sang their song as I walked along
I suddenly felt quite odd
‘Cause out of the sky fell a note from Mr God
And it said
You got the blues but you can shake it
If you have faith you can make it
You have a chance
You must take it while you can
You have a choice but you must choose it
Don't give up hope
Never lose it
And that's what it said on the note from Mr God
Oh
I like it [Spoken, faintly]
God [Faintly]
And it said
You have the blues but you can shake it
If you have faith you can make it
You have a chance
You must take it while you can
You have a choice but you must choose it
Don't give up hope
Never lose it
And that's what it said on the note from Mr God
So if you feel down
Your chin on the ground
And suddenly you feel odd
Just look on the ground for that note from Mr God
I was so down
My chin on the ground
Wondering what to do
Then suddenly I was surprised from out of the blue
The birds sang their song as I walked along
I suddenly felt quite odd

everybody work
[Go to Song Page]
You know the flesh will make you twist and shout
So with fear and trembling work your salvation out
Everybody work
Everybody work
There are ten commandments, now get this straight
If you keep the first two you'll fulfil the other eight
Everybody work
Everybody work
There's tension between the brothers and the sisters
People need to get along
Open up your hearts to one another
And learn to sing this song
Holy spirit will touch your soul
Stand still, don't rock and roll
Everybody work
Everybody work work work work
If your woman walks out, starts messing about
You must pray for her safety, 'til she works it out
Obedience is better than sacrifice
If you don't die once then you're gonna die twice
Holy spirit make you move about
So with fear and trembling work your salvation out
Everybody work work
Yeah everybody work work work work
(Work work) The spirit is willing
(Work work) But the flesh is weak
And if you're holding (work work) back
It's hard to hear (work work) God speak

shake your rattle and crawl
[Go to Song Page]
Rock-a-bye baby in the tree top
You know the bough’s gonna break
And the cradle will rock
You're one year older than you were the year before
And each day baby, I love you more and more
You make me laugh when I see you crawl across the floor
What y’ doing boy
Shake your rattle and crawl [x4]
Stay in your stroller when your momma’s shopping at the mall
Well I love my son Michael, he’s as good as a boy can be
And I hug him and I kiss him and I bounce him up upon my knee
And then I put him on the floor and say baby won’t you rock with me
That’s right I say c’mon
Shake your rattle and crawl, shake baby shake yeah
Shake your rattle and crawl, stand up and walk tall
And you can count on me 'cause I’ll be there to catch you when you fall
All right
Well the serpent was hanging from the tree just like a leaf
Oh yeah (shake shake)
And when Eve walked by he said lady I’ll make this brief
(Shake shake)
When Adam took the second bite they rubbed their eyes in disbelief
And God told the devil
Shake your rattle and crawl (Yeh yeh) [x4]
I’ll be stomping on your head, you’ll be dancing at the dead man’s ball
All right (Shake your rattle and crawl) (Yeh yeh)
(Shake your rattle and crawl) Oh (Yeh yeh) You know what I like
(Shake your rattle and crawl) (Yeh yeh) That's it

[Go to Song Page]
Dear Malcolm, dear Alwyn
You're my favorite singers in England
And I love you so much
You got the holy spirit's touch
You're much more than just a two man band
I got a memo from Turner
He's a poet, I'm a learner
And he says you're coming back to L.A.
So I'll see you when you land
I'll hope your schedule's not too planned
I know you can't, but I wish you could stay
I miss you my friends
I think about you all the time
You're so far away
Well I hope you're feeling fine
Beware of the snakes and the robbers and the fakes
And the guys who want to take a percent
You don't need them anymore
God is gonna close that door
It's getting time to pack up your tent
Dear Malcolm (dear Malcolm), dear Alwyn (dear Alwyn)
La la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la
I miss you my friends
I think about you all the time
You're so far away
Well I hope you're feeling fine
Dear Malcolm (dear Malcolm), dear Alwyn (dear Alwyn)
You're my favorite singers in England
And your songs are so simple
But they take me to the temple
I guess I'm just your number one fan

that's what love is for
[Go to Song Page]
Sorry, I left my voice in Australia. It'll catch up with me on a later flight [Spoken]
Love is warm if love is real
But if it's false and cold as steel
It can break your heart
Tear your dreams apart
But love can bless you when it's true
Give you hope and guide you through
The darkest corridor
That's what love is for
You have come and now the emptiness is gone
You hung the light between the darkness and the dawn
Don't be pushing back and forth, you're gonna hurt somebody. You go stand out there by yourself and rock if you want. Yeah. This ain't rock and roll you know, this is the christian life. Not supposed to sway back and forth, supposed to stand tall and eh, solid and [Spoken]
I love you and you love me
If I am all I'll ever be
Is that enough for you
And hope will guide us through
We grow strong, our hearts grow well
We withstand the gates of hell
And walk towards heaven's door
That's what love is for
You have come and now the emptiness is gone
You hung the light between the darkness and the dawn
I keep remembering sorrow from the past
Look ahead tomorrow to brighter days
Without your love my hope would never last
True love comes from the father
I, I keep remembering
It is the last verse soon. Hey this ain't show business, I'm only here because this is life [Spoken]
Life is hard but love abides
Through the storms and raging tides
We're safe among the shores
That's what love is for
We're safe among the shores
That's what love is for
That's what love is for

We grow strong, our hearts grow well
We withstand the gates of hell
And walk towards heaven's door
That's what love is for
You have come and now the emptiness is gone
You hung the light between the darkness and the dawn
I keep remembering sorrow from the past
Look ahead tomorrow to brighter days
Without your love my hope would never last
True love comes from the father
I, I keep remembering
It is the last verse soon. Hey this ain't show business, I'm only here because this is life [Spoken]
Life is hard but love abides
Through the storms and raging tides
We're safe among the shores
That's what love is for
We're safe among the shores
That's what love is for
That's what love is for
That's what love is for
you did it for me
[Go to Song Page]
Oh how they hurt you
They didn't know from the start
They didn't know how they wounded your loving heart
They were blind and reckless
They drove a nail through each hand
Oh-oh, didn't they understand
Oh oh oh, I know, now I can see
Oh oh oh, I know, you did it for them
And you did it for me
You created the earth
By your command it moves
They mocked you, come down king of the Jews
I wasn't there in the garden
But I believe you cried
And that the sky turned black the moment you died
Oh oh oh, I know, now I can see
Oh oh oh, I know, you did it for them
And you did it for me
You did it for me
You did it for me
You gave your life up
So that I can be free
An' I belong to you eternally
Wo oh oh, I know
You did it for them, you did it for me
Oh oh oh, I know
You did it for them, you did it for us, you did it for me
You did it for me
Oh how they hurt you

...going on in there?
Will this thing work as a PA?
Is there anyone alive in there?
Shoot, the whole place has been renovated
Aaah
Hello, hello. We're in the message booth in the ice rink. Can you hear me?
Give me that thing
Wait a minute, wait a minute. Please be careful breaking in. If this thing gets loose there's no stopping it. It's all over the rink, it's blocking all the exits
That sounds like Bobby
It's got some strange life force. We're safe for the moment. Please be very careful, many people have been killed already
There's only three of us left here, and everyone else escaped or was killed. I don't think it can get to us but we can't get out
Oh come on man you gotta let us get in there, he's our best friend
Look you two, em, go on over to the fire unit and get some helmets or jackets and look official and try to help out. Williams, will you go with 'em?
Right sir
Can you tell us the nature of the thing?
Hey Bobby
I'm sorry

Disc two:
One True love [Randy Stonehill]
You might spin 'til you're dizzy, just trying to stay alive
But you're so busy hustling you never arrive
No, you never arrive
Don't try being a loner, 'cause that's your first mistake
Go on once and admit that you need a break
An' well we all need a break
You need one true love
Someone who's always there
Don't try to act like you don't care
Ooh ooh hoo-oo-hoo ooh no
Well well well
Blind men look at creation and call it circumstance (Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
They treat life like a gamble and leave it to chance (Ooh ooh)
And leave it to chance
Some say love's an illusion (pip pip pip pip pip), don't be the wise man's fool (Pip pip pip pip pip)
They just wind up with nothing by playing it cool (Pip pip pip pip pip)
Playing it cool
You need one true love
Go on and get it straight
You're only losing while you wait
(Pip pip) [x3]
Oh-ho-wo-oh yeh (Pip pip)
(Pip pip)
You might spin 'til you're dizzy, just trying to stay alive
But you're so busy hustling you never arrive
Oh oh oh
You need one true love, then you can really live (Wo-ooh-ooh)
You'll only get back what you give
Oh yeah
You need one true love [Repeated to end with evolving harmonies and background vocals]
But you're so busy hustling you never arrive

watch what you're doing
[Go to Song Page]
Mo' guitar [Spoken]
Mmm, mama killed a chicken, she thought it was a duck
She put it on the table with his legs sticking up
Papa broke his glasses when he fell down drunk
Tried to drown the kitty cat, turned out to be a skunk
You gotta watch what you're doing
Didn't you know
Yeah you gotta watch where you're going
Didn't you know
Little Joe Billy went fishing for trout
Played hooky from school 'til the cops found out
Didn't have a father, was an only child
His mama never beat him so he grew up wild
You gotta watch what you're doing
Yeah
I knew a girl, sweet as could be
But she fell for a man like a chain sawed tree
She listened to his lies, was fooled by his charms
Now she's sitting with a baby in her arms
You gotta watch what you're doing
Didn't you know
You gotta watch what you're doing
You oughta know that
You gotta watch out
Watch out
Well everything's fine till things get bad
Then you sit around thinking 'bout the good times you had
But it ain't no good to lead a life of sin
If you don't shape up you know you'll never get in
You better watch what you're doing
Ah don't you know
You oughta know where you're going
Do you know
Some folks smile, they seem alright
Then you later find out it was an angel of light
Try to love everybody but don't be blind
'Cause some kind of people try to mess your mind
You gotta watch who you know yeah
Some folks say that the good Lord's dead
That he doesn't exist 'cept inside your head
I wonder how many gonna be surprised
When they look straight up and see him coming through the skies
You gotta watch what you're doing
Don't you know
'Cause he does yeah
You know he watches what you're doing
Yes he does
You better know where you're going (Ooh ooh)
Yeah yeah yeaow (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Well well well hutz sut sut
Well well well hutz hutz a mutza
C'mon pilgrim, you know he loves you
He loves you more than he loves this cloven earth
Don't make your life bad and start acting like an idiot

counterfeit king [Randy Stonehill]
Counterfeit king in the garden that he stole
He's the outlaw with the diamonds in his eyes
Like an angel of light he'll seduce your wandering soul
He's a master of the beautiful disguise
He has reaped what he's sown in his fatal act of pride
And he tumbled down like lightning from the sky
And his only desire is to brand us just like him
For in loving our own lives we're doomed to die
We're doomed to die
Now we're all out on a tightrope
Too proud to think we'll fall
You can choose the freedom of God's love
Or laugh and lose it all
Oh oh oh (oh)
So beware of the words that he'll whisper to your heart
Or he'll burn you with his twisted tongue of fire
And the song that he sings, it's like poison to the soul
He's the counterfeit king and he's a liar
He's just a liar
A beautiful liar
Oh oh wo-ho
Woo ooh
Woo hoo hoo
Yeah oh yeah
Oh oh-oh
Oh oh-oh-ho-oo
He's a beautiful, beautiful liar
Oh ho-oh he's a beautiful, beautiful liar

The rock that doesn't roll
[Go to Song Page]
Woo
I was lost and blind then a friend of mine
Came and took me by the hand
Then he led me to his kingdom
That was in another land
Now my life has changed, it's rearranged
When I think of my past I feel so strange
Wowie zowie well he saved my soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's good for the body and great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
I was all alone like a rolling stone
I was going nowhere fast
I was on the road so far from home
When the future touched my past
Now I feel so blessed 'cause he gave me a rest
And I finally feel like I've passed the test
I wanna be like him, yes that's my goal
Like a rock that doesn't roll
Oh he's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's good for the body and great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Ah-ow-yow
I was lost and blind then a friend of mine
Came and took me by the hand
And he led me to his kingdom
That was in another land
Now my mind is blown, my head has grown
A solid rock ain't a rolling stone
Wowie zowie well the cat's got soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Well, he's the rock that doesn't roll (he's the rock that doesn't roll)
He's the rock that doesn't roll (he's the rock that doesn't roll)
You know he's good for the body and great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't
Rock that doesn't
Rock that doesn't
Rock that doesn't roll
You've got to rock me on the water
You've got to rock me from my grave
You've got to rock me till I'm feeling good
You've got to rock me till I'm, rock me till I'm saved
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's good for the body and great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
I wanna tell you
He's the rock that doesn't roll

hard luck and bad news
[Go to Song Page]
I've been having some hard times
All my life
I hope things change pretty soon
Hard luck and bad news
Has followed me from town to town
All my life my luck's been down
I'm getting so weary
I don't have one friend
Folks turn their backs when I'm around
And where I walk the grass turns brown
No one will come near me
Hard luck and bad news
Hard luck and bad news
If you were in my shoes you'd die
My life's been lonely
I've never heard a kindly word
Ugly names is all I've heard
And mean is how they treat me
Nobody trusts me
They blame me for the fires in town
Claim that hell is where I'm bound
And pray that God will speed me
Hard luck and bad news
Hard luck and bad news
If you were in my shoes you'd die
Woo
Life's not worth living
My sorrow's more than I can say
Tomorrow's just another day
I hate to see the sun rise
Yet maybe someday
I'll find a man to call a friend
I'll be his friend until the end
In loneliness my heart cry
Hard luck and bad news
Hard luck and bad news
If you were in my shoes you'd die [x2]
