introduction
Are you ready for some good old time rock and roll? The way it used to be? We're bringing back the good music one night at a time here, please welcome a dear old friend of ours, Larry Norman [Spoken by compere]
why don't you look into jesus
[Go to Song Page]
Sipping whiskey from a paper cup
You drown your sorrows till you can't stand up
Take a look at what you've done to yourself
Why don't ya put the bottle back on the shelf
Yellow fingers from your cigarettes
Your hands are shaking while your body sweats
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
You got gonorrhoea on Valentine’s day
You're still looking for the perfect lay
You think that rock and roll will set you free
You'll be deaf before you're thirty three
Shooting junk till you're half insane
Broken needle in your purple vein
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
Sleep all night
You work all day
Take your money
Throw it all away
Say you're gonna be a superstar
But you never hung around enough
To find out who you really are
So think back to when you were a child
Your soul was free, your heart ran wild
Each day was different, life was a thrill
You knew tomorrow would be better still
Things have changed, you're much older now
If you're unhappy and you don't know how
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
Yeah-hey-yeh
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
Yes he does, yes he does
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
???
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
He's got the answer and you need the answer and he is the answer [Spoken]

i've searched all around
[Go to Song Page]
Welcome to God's sauna [Spoken]
Darkness can't hide much longer
The spirit is getting stronger
I'm glad my faith is stronger
This world won't last much longer
I've searched all around the world to find a grain of truth
I opened the mouth of love and I found a wisdom tooth
Maybe you think I'm plastic
But this situation's drastic
You know what I'm talking about? [Spoken]
I've searched all around the world to find a place of peace
I've sat in the shade of God and I watched the joy increase
Wo oh wo oh yeah-eh-eh
Na na na na na na
There's no time left for stalling
Can't you hear someone calling
Life all around is crumbling
I think this world is stumbling
And maybe you think I'm wrong now
But this is my only song now
I've searched all around the world to find a grain of truth
I opened the mouth of love and I found a wisdom tooth
I've searched all around the world to find a place of peace
I've sat in the shade of God and I watched the joy increase
I've searched all around the world to find a grain of truth
I opened the mouth of love and I found a wisdom tooth
That's right you know [Spoken]
I've searched all around, I've searched all around, I've searched all around the world x4]
I've searched it all around
I've searched this whole world
Opened the mouth of love

be not imitators of the world
It's nice to be here. Yeah it's nice to be anywhere. Even here. On a day like today. Wasn't this last part of the week nice? This is just to remind you what it could always be like. And it could even be worse than this if you're not planning to go to heaven. Yeah I saw a t-shirt and uh, I was kind of shocked. It said uh, Christ first then wrestling. So I bought it for Ken, who is our wrestler. And my favorite shirt, I just had to buy. It was eh Christ first, then hunting. The only real way to respect and admire God's creation
There's a lot of different kind of music here, you know there's christian reggae, like Christafari you know, and there's christian rap, christian, you know whatever the world's got, we've got it too, because we're imitators of, Christ
And uh, I saw a t-shirt after that movie came out with Mike Myers, but this t-shirt was a christian t-shirt said Awesome Power, the God who saved me. And I eh mentioned that at um this other festival last year. I don't want to hurt the guy's feelings that, that created that t-shirt, but he said he didn't mind 'cause after I mentioned it his sales went way up real fast. So I guess I didn't give the message out correctly. We're supposed to be not following the world, you know. Anyway, there's lots of different kind of Christian music out now. I kinda liked it better when I was the only one
Well here's a song I wrote about how the church, uh, didn't let me and how the christian radio stations wouldn't play me and how the bible bookstores wouldn't sell it and. And but I, it really happens to all of you so uh this song's for all of you. You can sing along if you know it

shot down
[Go to Song Page]
I've been shot down, talked about
Some people scandalize my name
But here I am, talking 'bout Jesus just the same
I've been knocked down, kicked around
But like a moth drawn to the flame
Here I am, talking 'bout Jesus just the same
Wo oh oh oh
I've been rebuked for the things I've said
For the songs I've written and the life I've wed [Larry mispronounces the word led]
Some people don't understand me but I'm not surprised
You can't see nothing when you close your eyes
They say I'm sinful, backslidden
That I have left to follow fame
Here I am, talking 'bout Jesus just the same
Wo oh oh oh
Go Jonny go
You wanna talk about my life, then listen to me
You've got your facts all backwards, one two three
Spreading rumors and gossip is a, a bad game
The only name to spread is Jesus name
I've been shot down, talked about
People scandalize my name
Well here I am, talking 'bout Jesus brother
Here I am, talking 'bout Jesus sister
Here I am, talking 'bout Jesus just the same
Wo ho oh oh
I've been shot down, talked about
Some people scandalize my name
But here I am, talking 'bout Jesus just the same

tool of satan
Ugh, it's not a flashback, it's a beach ball. It's like a giant dot com. Hi kid. Yeah you can't talk to me while I'm busy working. I'm not working here, I'm just singing for Jesus, you can talk to me
Well this is an old song uh, people used to say how come your hair is so long, it touches your ears? And why do you sing that jungle music that has a beat? You're a tool of Satan. So I'd eh, I just wrote this song 'cause I couldn't, after fifteen years of trying to discuss it, I gave up in 1970 or 71 I wrote this song

why should the devil have all the good music
[Go to Song Page]
A one two a one two three
I want the people to know
That he saved my soul
But I still like to listen to the radio
They say rock and roll is wrong
We'll give you one more chance
I say I feel so good I'm gonna get up and dance
I know what's right, I know what's wrong
I don't confuse it
All I'm really trying to say
Why should the devil have all the good music
Nothing wrong, what they play
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away
Say to cut my hair
They're driving me insane
I grew it out long to make room for my brain
Sometimes people don't understand
They say what's a good boy doing in a rock and roll band
There's nothing evil about playing blues licks
If you've got a scripture, show me to my face
Why should the devil have all the good music
Nothing wrong, what I play, aaaah
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away
Yes he did
Allright
I'm not knocking the hymn
Just give me something that has a beat
I'm not knocking the hymns
Just give me something that moves my feet
I don't like some of those funeral marches
I ain't dead yet
Waah
Jesus told the truth
Jesus showed the way
There's one more thing I'd like to say
They nailed him to the cross
And they laid him in the ground
They shoulda known you can't keep a good man down
I feel good every day
I don't wanna lose it
All I'm really trying to say
Why should the devil have all the good music
I've been filled in every way
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away
A one two a one two three

This is back in 1958, Elvis Presley you know was trying to steal the church's music in 1956, and I had this crazy idea as a nine year old that I needed to try to steal it back. Two years later pastor said I believe in rock and roll. And everyone got real quiet. In, in our church you know, we didn't believe in dancing, our church. He said I believe in rock and roll, this is what I believe, I believe, you know what he said. He said my feet are on the rock, my name is on the roll. And I thought man that's a really good idea for a song. And I didn't know anything about plagiarism back then, so I took Elvis Presley's song Let's Have A Party and just rearranged it a little bit [Spoken]
My feet are on a rock, my name is on a roll
But moving and a grooving, it just don't satisfy my soul
But when I’m down I just go off on my own
And when I feel the need I dance before the throne
The people at my church
My friends down at the school
They think I am crazy mama
They think that I'm a fool
But I believe someone rolled away that stone
When I feel the need I dance before the throne
Take it easy, nice and slow
Feel his presence, don’t you know
If he says follow, I will go
I feel like dancing ‘cause he saved my soul
Goliath had a sword, David had a stone
I have got the Lord, I am not alone
If you knock me down
Brother I will not fight you back
'Cause God loves all his children
Red, white, yellow, brown and black
Alright boys
My feet are on a rock
That's Herbie [Spoken]
Okay Kenny [Spoken]
Woo
My feet are on a rock boy, sounds good
My name is on a roll
Moving and a grooving it will just never satisfy your ho-ho-soul
If you feel sad
Put you closer to God
Go in your room, go in your closet
Go off by yourself all alone
Try it, try it, try it
And if you feel the need just dance before God's throne

song for a small circle
[Go to Song Page]
I sang with Randy Stonehill couple days ago. And he had wanted to be here and sing tonight with me. But he had to go so I thought I would sing this song, I thought of this last night, I'd like to sing a song I wrote about him and some other people back in the sixties that I had met that I really wanted to become christians. It's kind of a prayer list and eh, lot of it has already been fulfilled and I'm still praying for the rest [Spoken]
Well my life is filled with songs
But I just could not get along without my friends
And I'm happy now but when this good life ends
I know a better life begins
And love to Randy Stonehill
With his guitar full volume on his amp
He's so crazy but he knows it
And I still love him as we both crawl toward the lamp
With Clapton on guitar
Charlie Watts on drums, bmm tss
McCartney on the Hofner bass
With blisters on his thumbs
Ooh
Dear Dylan watch your fears all hide
And disappear while love inside keeps growing
Let it keep growing
You're older but less colder
Than the jokes and folks you spent your childhood snowing
Yes you did, yes you did
And someone died for all you friends
But even better yet he lives again
And if this song does not make sense to you
I hope his spirit slips on through
He loves you
He loves you, God loves you
And if these words do not appeal to you
I hope his spirit slips on through
You know Jesus loves you

the great american novel
[Go to Song Page]
I was born and raised an orphan
In a land that once was free
In a land that poured its love out on the moon
Did you see the moon last night? [Spoken]
And I grew up in the shadows
Of your silos filled with grain
But you never helped to fill my empty spoon
And when I was ten you murdered law
With courtroom politics
And you learned to make a lie sound just like truth
But I know you better now
And I don't fall for all your tricks
And you've lost the one advantage of my youth
You kill a black man at midnight
Just for talking to your daughter
Make his wife your mistress
And you leave her without water
And the sheet you wear upon your face
Is the sheet your children sleep on
At every meal you say a prayer
You don't believe but still you keep on
And your money says in God we trust
But it's against the law to pray in school
Say we beat the Russians to the moon
And I say you starved your children to do it
You were far away across the ocean
And the war was not your own
While you were losing theirs
You also lost the war at home
Did you really think the only way
To bring about true peace
Was to sacrifice your young men
To kill all your enemies
Your politicians, they all make speeches
The news men all take notes
And they exaggerate false issues
And they shove them down our throats
Is it really up to them
Whether our nations sink or float
Well I wonder who would lead us
If none of us would vote
Next time, next time vote [Spoken]
My phone is tapped and my lips are chapped
From whispering through the fence
You know every move I make
Or is that just coincidence
Will you try to make our way of life
A little less like jail
If we'll promise to make tapes and slides
And send them to you through the mail
Our money says in God we trust
But it's against the law to pray in school
You say we beat the Russians to the moon
I say you starved your children to do it
You say all men are equal, all men are brothers
Then why are the rich more equal than others
Don't ask me for the answers, I've only found one
That a man leaves his darkness when he follows the son

i am the six o'clock news
[Go to Song Page]
[Air steward announcement]
Got a ticket for southeast Asia
I packed my camera and my press card badge
They only paid me to stay the weekend
What if I never come back
I'm taking pictures of burning houses
You know I really got my Hassleblad full of film
And in my bedroom the bellboy gook put my bags on the bed
He left without a tip
I loaded up my Hasselblad
I stepped outside
You know all I am is
I'm just the six o'clock news
That's all
What can I do
Taking pictures of burning houses
Colored movies of misery
I see the flash of guns, how red the mud becomes
I got a close-up view
I'm the six o'clock news
What can I do
Guerilla rendezvous
What can I do
All those kids without shoes
What can I do
I'm just the six o'clock news
Got my suite at the Saigon Hilton
Cocktail parties with Premiere Ky
We talk about how the war is going
And watch his color TV
I'm the six o'clock news
What can I do, it's not my job
All those kids without shoe
Yeah it makes me sad, not my dime
Drinking black market booze
What can I do
I am, I am, I am
The six o'clock news
Catch my plane flight back to the mainland
I fall asleep to the engine's drone
I see the flash of guns, how red the mud becomes
I've got a close-up view
I am, I am
The six o'clock news
(What can I do)
What can I do (What can I do)
I'm just the six o'clock news
(What can I do)
Guerilla rendezvous
(What can I do)
I'm the six o'clock news
(What can I do)
I'm just the six o'clock news
(What can I do)
I am, I am, I am, I am, I am
The six o'clock news
CBS, ABC, NBC
CBS, ABC, NBC
CBS, ABC, NBC
(CBS, ABC, NBC) I'm just the six o'clock
(CBS, ABC, NBC) I'm, I'm just the six o'clock news
(CBS, ABC, NBC) What can I do
I have no morals, no perspective
(CBS, ABC, NBC) I'm just the six o'clock news
(CBS, ABC, NBC) Yeh-oh six o'clock news
(CBS, ABC, NBC) Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah six o'clock
(CBS, ABC) Yeah yeah yeah
I'm just the six o'clock news

Yeah it makes me sad, not my dime
Drinking black market booze
What can I do
I am, I am, I am
The six o'clock news
Catch my plane flight back to the mainland
I fall asleep to the engine's drone
I see the flash of guns, how red the mud becomes
I've got a close-up view
I am, I am
The six o'clock news
(What can I do)
What can I do (What can I do)
I'm just the six o'clock news
(What can I do)
Guerilla rendezvous
(What can I do)
I'm the six o'clock news
(What can I do)
I'm just the six o'clock news
(What can I do)
I am, I am, I am, I am, I am
The six o'clock news
CBS, ABC, NBC
CBS, ABC, NBC
CBS, ABC, NBC
(CBS, ABC, NBC) I'm just the six o'clock
(CBS, ABC, NBC) I'm, I'm just the six o'clock news
(CBS, ABC, NBC) What can I do
I have no morals, no perspective
(CBS, ABC, NBC) I'm just the six o'clock news
(CBS, ABC, NBC) Yeh-oh six o'clock news
(CBS, ABC, NBC) Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah six o'clock
(CBS, ABC) Yeah yeah yeah
I'm just the six o'clock news
i wish we'd all been ready
[Go to Song Page]
Oh-ee-oh
Oh-ee-oh
Oy oy oy oh
Life was filled with guns and war
Everyone got trampled on the floor
I wish we'd all been ready
Children died, the days grew cold
A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold
I wish we'd all been ready
There's no time to change your mind
The son has come and you've been left behind
A man and wife asleep in bed
She hears a noise and turns her head, he's gone
I wish we'd all been ready
Two men walking up a hill
One disappears, one's left standing still
I wish we'd all been ready
There's no time to change your mind
The son has come and you've been left behind
Life is filled with bombs and guns
Heaven help these little ones who die
I hope they'll all be ready
(I wish we'd all been ready)
Governments, gold, oil, guns, wars, AIDS
I hope you'll all be ready
(I wish we'd all been ready)
There's no time to change your mind
How could you have been so blind
The father spoke, the demons dined
The son has come, you've been left behind
You've been left behind, left behind, left behind, left
You've been left behind, left behind, left behind
Yeah you've been left behind, (left behind, left behind)

Hey you guys, you know this but I'm gonna tell you anyway. Someday you're gonna stand right in front of Jesus. That'll be great, man. And he's gonna talk to you. Wow. And he's gonna say did you feed me and clothe me? And what are you gonna say? No, I went to the festival instead. And if Jesus is only gonna ask you this one thing, that means it's important to him
And to those who say to him no, we didn't feed you and clothe you. And he says yes, you didn't feed me and clothe me when you didn't feed and clothe the least among you, the poor, then you did not feed and clothe me. And those people will go away into what? And when they get there they'll do what with their teeth, grinding them down for eternity? Read it. I don't wanna talk about it man, it depresses me you know. I could solve your problem you know, I got a ticket past that conversation
In fact I got a bunch of tickets. This one is Rita. India. Born 1993. You wanna make sure she stays alive, you want to feed her, want to clothe her. Medicine, that's important. Education, learning about Jesus, that's real important. You can do this and then when Jesus says did you feed me and clothe me, you can go, well her name was Rita. Don't go away from here, but that going into the rest of your life taking care of somebody that Jesus loves. You may never see them face to face, but Jesus will see them face to face
Help them find out about Jesus and keep them alive in the meantime. It's right over there. There's a little tent there, it's called Gate to Heaven. Salvation's good, eh but eh this Jesus thing, I mean, if he thinks it's important, I guess I better think it's important too. Right?
And tell your neighbors, tell your friends man, don't be ashamed of this you know. It's this Christ that we believe in. I mean, we want to be so cool you know. I bet we would never stuck metal in our face if the world hadn't done it first, but you know that's another thing to talk about. But uh don't be ashamed of, of the Christ who has served you with his death and resurrection, and with your daily walk serve him, let other people know about him. I don't wanna talk about this man, you've heard this for a million years. Am I bugging ya? I don't wanna bug ya

Okay man, we only got time for one more song 'cause I talked about Jesus man. That happens man. That happens [Spoken]
Yeah
When you're out on the street
Just spread the word around man, it's a
Rock the flock
When you're out on the street
Spread the word around
Tell the people you meet
To lay their burdens down
Let everybody know where you're coming from
That's right (Rock the flock)
Yeah rock the flock man, you know what I'm talking about
Do it right now, come on
Rock the flock 'til kingdom come
Melt it down man
Woo
Jump and scream
Kick and yell
Kick it hard so they can hear you near the gates of hell
Don't hide back you know
Don't hide the light
Shake off your fear, jump into the fight
Yeah
Yeah man
Rock the flock
Rock the flock
Rock the flock
Rock the flock
There's a world outside
And it's falling apart
If you love your brother

the rock that doesn't roll
[Go to Song Page]
I was lost and blind then a friend of mine
Came and took me by the hand
Then he led me to his kingdom
That was in another land
Now my life has changed, it's rearranged
When I think of my past I feel so strange
Wowie zowie he saved my soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
You know he's good for the body, great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
I was all alone like a rolling stone
I was going nowhere fast
I was on that road so far from home
When the future touched my past
I feel so blessed because he gave me a rest
Finally feel like I've passed the test
I wanna be like him, that's my goal
Like the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's good for the body and great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Ow-ow
I was lost and blind then a friend of mine
Came and took me by the hand
And he led me to his kingdom
That was in another land
Now my mind is blown, my head has blown
A solid rock ain't a rolling stone
I wanna be like him, yeah baby that's my goal
He's the rock (that doesn't roll) Alright, you know
He's the rock (that doesn't roll) Doesn't roll
He's the rock (that doesn't roll) Will not roll
He's good for the body, great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't
Rock that doesn't
Rock that doesn't
Rock (that doesn't)
You've got to rock me on the water
You've got to rock me from my grave
Rock me till I'm feeling good
You've got to rock me 'til I'm saved
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Yes he's the (rock that doesn't roll)

I wanna tell you he's the
Rock (that doesn't roll)
Keep on rocking
He's the (rock that doesn't roll)
(He's good for the body, great for the soul)
He's the rock that doesn't roll
