Also listed are releases in which Larry was involved

apple cider
[Go to Song Page]

I know a girl who lives on apple cider
On a hot summer's day I know where to find her

Sitting in the shade with that cool apple cider
Oh you've got it made with that cool apple cider

Look at her face, the glow of apple cider
And I know a place, huh, where I can get some cider

Sitting in the shade with that cool apple cider
Oh you've got it made with that cool apple cider

You've got to give me some
Uh give me some, aooow
Uh give me some, yeeaaa
Give me some apple cider

I know a girl who lives on apple cider
On a hot summer's day I know where to find her

Sitting in the shade with that cool apple cider
Oh you've got it made with that cool apple cider

This compilation album was rather inaccurately titled, as none of the tracks were old at the time, and most were not even hits

It did however contain a stereo mix of Apple Cider by People. (The single was mono)

Randy Stonehill - Born Twice, One Way Records [1971, USA]
all right now
[Go to Song Page]

Randy, Fred [Spoken]

I just wanna say
That I'm so glad I found you Lord
I just wanna say
That I'm so glad I found you Lord

Ain't it funny
You've been with me all along
Just waiting
For me to sing the song
And it's alright now
I'm in your hands
Lord it's alright now
I understand

People look at me
Like they're trying to figure out
Just what it could be
What it is that I'm smiling 'bout

Ain't it funny
That it's a joy that I can't hide
You love me
And it's shining from inside
It's alright now
I'm in your hands
Lord it's alright now
I understand
It's alright now
Woo

Oh-ha-oh yeah

Alright [x3]
It's alright
Alright

You've been with me all along
Just waiting (Ah)
For me to sing your song (Ah)
And it's alright now
I'm in your hands
Lord it's alright now

How the story goes
But nobody knows
Why you had the grace
To save me Lord
When you died and you forgave me Lord

(Alright now)
Said it's alright now
And it's alright now I
I feel so good
Yes it's alright now an'
It's alright now
And it's alright now

looking for the footprints [passage within passing stranger]
[Go to Song Page]

Mmm yeah
Searching for the footprint of the man who wears the sandal
Ah ah ah
Searching for the footprint of the man who wears the sandal ah
Ah wo-oh-oh yea

Oh Lord, look what they've done yea
Oh Lord, look what they've done to you now
Look what they've done to you now
Can I believe my eyes
Can it be true
So gentle and wise
Look what they've done to you

This song is not included in the track listing, but is a passage within the song Passing Stranger. Note that whilst Larry didn't take any writing credits on Born Twice, '...Footprints', if not all of Passing Stranger was written by him when he was still in the band People
i love you
[Go to Song Page]

We can be together for now and forever
I love you, I love you
Now when I'm praying and I hear you saying
I love you, I love you
People all over the world, they're opening up
They're coming alive, they're saying

I love you [x12]

Brother and sister, mrs and mister
I love you, I love you
He made me feel it and I can't conceal it
I love you, I love you
Jesus came into the world to show us the way (Ooh)
To set us all free and when he died he was saying

I love you [x18]

We can be together for now and forever
I love you, I love you
Brother and sister, mrs and mister
I love you, I love you

I love you [x23]
norman's kitchen
[Go to Song Page]

I got stoned in Norman's kitchen
We was talkin' 'bout the facts of life
He asked me, was I happy
As I reached for the butter knife
I said no and I made a sandwich
And I poured myself a cup o' tea
When that cat started praying
The spirit fell on me

I got up to use the bathroom
I said excuse me please
But I couldn't help laughing
I felt shaky in the knees
As I leaned against the mirror
My heart let out a sigh
Like something heavy left me
And I opened up my eyes

I can see, I am free
And I'm who I wanna be
Mercy me, mercy me, mercy me
Woo

I was born in dusty Stockton
And I grew up in San Jose
But I never started living
Until I learned to pray
Now my parents, they ignore me
They say I've gotten strange
But where you're touched by heaven
You know that something's bound to chan' [Mispronounces 'change']

Well I can see yes, I am free
And I'm who I want to be
Mercy me, mercy me, (ah) mercy me
Shoobie doo bap bap bap (Wo oh oh wo oh oh)
I can see (I can see)
I am free (I am free) (Free)
And I'm who I want to be (Who, who I wanna, wanna be)
Mercy me, mercy me, mercy me, ye-eh yeh (Mercy, mercy, mercy me, mercy me)
(Woo woo woo woo)

I can see (I can see now)
I am free (I can be free now)
And I'm who I wanna be (I can be the me I wanna be now)
Mercy me (Mercy me now)
Mercy me (Mercy, mercy me, mercy me)
Mercy me
(Yahweh do ya, Yahweh's talking to ya)

I can see (Shoop shoop)
I am free (I can see)
And I'm who I want to be (Do-ah, bip bip, bip ye-ah)
Mercy me (Shoobie doo wap)
Mercy me (Mercy me)
Mercy me (JC)
(Shoobie doo bap, bap bap)

Mercy me, yeah

[Go to Song Page]

Santa Claus is coming and the kids are getting greedy
And they know it's in the stores because they've seen it on the TV
Woo, it's Christmas time yeah
Woo, it's Christmas time yeah

The deejays on the radio, they'll really knock your head off
'Cause Macy's got an ad they wanna make a lotta bread offa
Woo, Christmas time yeah
Woo, it's Christmas time yeah

Now Madison Avenue is such a pushy scene
You know they're painting all their billboards red and green
Woo, Christmas time yeah
Woo, it's Christmas time yeah

Well you go into the forest and you cut down all the trees
I know you've got a power saw but who plants the seeds
Woo, it's Christmas time yeah

And now it used to be the birthday of a man who saved our necks
But now it stands for Santa Claus they spell it with an x

Yeah, it's a Christmas time

Note: Randy was in the room when Larry wrote the song, and added additional lyrics for his version, where the verses are sung twice as fast

Larry arranged and produced the album, co-wrote some of the songs, and performs piano, organ, mouth claves and harmonies

Born Twice follows the same format as Larry's own Street Level, with one side recorded live and the other in the studio. Both albums (and much of Bootleg) were recorded during the same sessions and using the same musicians - Fred Bova, Glenn Selwitz and Hilly Hillman. Larry dubbed the band 'White Light'

sweet sweet song of salvation
[Go to Song Page]

When you know a pretty story

You don't let it go unsaid
You tell it to your children
As you tuck them into bed
And when you know a wonderful secret
You tell it to your friend
Tell them that a lifetime filled with Jesus
Is like a street that never ends

Alright, you sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let your laughter fill the air
You sing that sweet sweet song of salvation woo hoo
And tell the people everywhere
You sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
To every man, every nation
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the people know that Jesus cares

Now look around you as you sing it
There are people everywhere
And to those who stop to listen
Your sweet song becomes their prayer
'Cause when you know a wonderful secret
You tell it to your friends
Go  on and tell them that a lifetime filled with you know who
Is like a street that never ends

Alright it's your turn, sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let your laughter fill the air
You sing that [sweet sweet song of salvation] That's right
Tell the people everywhere
You sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
To every man in the United Nations
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the people know that Jesus cares

You've got to let the people know that Jesus cares
He really does, you know he died for all of us to set us free from sin
Open up your life and let him in, he really cares, he really does
Sing it here, be part of something big
Even when you're by yourself you're part of something bigger
Don't look at this situation here today
Don't flip out, it's not the best thing you're ever gonna be part of
Not the biggest thing you're ever gonna do
I'm not talking religion, I'm talking 'bout Jesus
Let the people know that Jesus cares
You let the people know that Jesus cares ah ha ha ha
Wait a minute, wait a minute, this is the big build up
Woo-ah-ha-ha-ha-ha-ah-ow
Ah-hu-ugh, ah-hu-wuh
This is to let you know it's rock and roll
Yeah awlright, ye-uh
Ow ow ow owm-ow

dear malcolm, dear alwyn
[Go to Song Page]

Dear Malcolm, dear Alwyn

You're my favorite singers in England
And I love you so much
You got the holy spirit's touch
You're much more than just a two man band

I got a memo from Turner
He's a poet, I'm a learner
And he says you're coming back to L.A.
So I'll see you when you land
I'll hope your schedule's not too planned
I know you can't, but I wish you could stay

I miss you my friends
I think about you all the time
You're so far away
Well I hope you're feeling fine

Beware of the snakes and the robbers and the fakes
And the guys who want to take a percent
You don't need them anymore
God is gonna close that door
It's getting time to pack up your tent

Dear Malcolm (dear Malcolm), dear Alwyn (dear Alwyn)
La la la la la la
La la la la la la la la
La la la la la la la

I miss you my friends
I think about you all the time
You're so far away
Well I hope you're feeling fine

Dear Malcolm (dear Malcolm), dear Alwyn (dear Alwyn)
You're my favorite singers in England
And your songs are so simple
But they take me to the temple
I guess I'm just your number one fan
Dear Malcolm, Dear Alwyn is here denoted as being from the album In Another Land. Evidently, the song was at one time planned to appear on that album, or at least Word Records believed so. In Another Land was released in 1976, and did not contain this song. A Jubilation! songbook was also available

Salvation Air Force - Strangers In A Strange Land, Myrrh MSB-6612  [1978, USA]
if god is my father
If God is my father
And you are my brother
Then why can't we bother
To really reach out and love one another
Why do we keep on acting the way we do
The way we treat each other
It must break his heart in two

Once we were happy
Oh yes, once in the garden
But then a lie broke the stillness
And our hearts began to harden
And hoping to be wiser man has reached too far
Sometimes I think that we're advanced
But then I look at where we are

And oh I cry
I feel like crying [x2]

Why do we argue
Why are there so many churches
With half of them empty
Some represent a million dollar purchase
What happened to the message given by our lord
To take his gospel to the streets
And share our money with the poor

Learn to love
Love is the greatest thing

Learn to love
Love is the greatest thing
Open up your heart
And learn to let your spirit sing
Just concentrate on Jesus
And forget your sin
Get ready for your new life
'Cause he's coming back again

So learn to love
Love is the greatest thing
Learn to love
Love is the greatest thing

Learn to love, you've got to learn to love [x2]

(You've got to learn to love) Learn to love (You've got to learn to love) [x4]

Learn to love (You've got to learn to love)
You've got to learn to love (You've got to learn to love) [x2]

Learn to love (You've got to learn to love)
(You've got to) Learn to love  (You've got to learn to love) [x2]
This album had already been recorded - produced by Dana Angle - when the band signed with Larry's Solid Rock label in February 1977. Due to a 'rule' that all Solid Rock albums were to be produced by Larry, it was arranged for this to be released via Myrrh instead, with plans for their second album to be on Solid Rock. Whilst this should have been released in 1977, various delays, partly blamed on Larry's 1977 world tour, led to it not appearing until August 1978

Adding Larry's song If God Is My Father was a last minute decision, and it is the only track in which Larry actually had any involvement. The basic track had already been recorded by Larry, over which Donnie Gossett added vocals. Jon Linn, Tom Howard and Randy Stonehill also recorded on the track, and John Pantano (of Pantano-Salsbury), who was in the studio recording their Solid Rock album Hit The Switch at the time, contributed a guitar solo

It is difficult to be sure whether this album or Larry's own Australian self titled release was intended to be the first release containing a full length version of If God Is My Father, but despite many fans believing it was the first, the aforementioned delays led to Strangers In A Strange Land appearing about a year after Larry Norman. The story of the delay is humorously told here

Due to a few incorrect assumptions and oversights, and a failure to send a proof for the band to review, Larry made several errors in the liner notes

My brother just flew in from America [Spoken, Randy Stonehill]

Woo

Will you all welcome Larry Norman [Spoken]

One two three and four [Spoken]

I woke up in the morning I said a morning prayer
I washed my face with soap, I ran my fingers through my hair
I went down to the studio on Hollywood and Vine
The clock said seven thirty well I made it just in time
I greeted the musicians, I grabbed the nearest chair
I started playing my guitar and told the engineer

C'mon (c'mon) let the tape keep rolling [x4]
C'mon let the tape keep rolling, c'mon c'mon c'mon

Well the first song that we cut was called "Lonely By Myself"
I'll do the vocal later you can leave it on the shelf
The second song we cut was called "No More LSD"
The session's getting better I'm as happy as can be
The last song took us seven takes the first one took us ten
Let's take it from the top and give it all we've got

C'mon (c'mon) let the tape keep rolling [x3]
C'mon (c'mon) I can't hear you
C'mon (c'mon) let the tape keep rolling
C'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon ??

Do you hear me singing on your record machine
The piano's banging, the guitar's twanging
The water cooler's clanging, the light bulb's hanging
The music's playing, the production's clean
Cross fade all the tracks don't leave no spaces in between

C'mon (c'mon) let that tape c'mon c'mon
(C'mon) let that tape keep rolling

C'mon (c'mon) let that tape keep rolling [x2]
C'mon (c'mon) let that tape keep rolling
C'mon c'mon, c'mon, c'mon, c'mon

I started out ten years ago my guitar in my hand
I took the message in my heart an' played it with a band
I went down to Capitol Records to record Upon This Rock
I wanted to say something, I just let the music talk

I know where I'm going, I know who I must be
I don't care how long it takes, there's lots of things to see

C'mon (c'mon) let your life keep rolling
C'mon (c'mon) let your faith keep growing
C'mon (c'mon) let your love keep showing
C'mon (c'mon) and let the, get going
C'mon get that good news going
C'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon c'mon

He come walking down my street
I say he come walking down my street
He come up to my room
He knocked on my heart
He come into my life
He made me feel so good
So good so tough so tough

You know what I'm talking about
You know what I'm talking about
I'm going home
I'm going home bou bou bou bou
Back home bou bou bou ba back home
Yes I am
He come down and make me feel alright
Like a thief in the middle of the night

I'm going home (back home) [x3]
That's where I'm going, I'm going home
Where are you going, you going home
Going home

I'm going home
I'm going home yeah yeah
Woo
I'm going home

Good night, we love you. Thank you [Spoken]

The Strait Tapes Volume I, Uncatalogued [1984, UK] - Released through the Greenbelt Festival organisation
if you don't love the lord
[Go to Song Page]

I see them come
I see them go
They climb so high and fall so low
They sing so sweet
In the spotlight's glare
They're full of grace and savoire-faire

Behind the scenes
They're full of greed
They press you down until you bleed
They use their power
To make the headlines
But they will end up in the breadlines

The only thing I know
And the bible says it's so
The only thing I know
Is if you don't love the Lord you'll fall

They run in packs
Poisoned with pride
Caught up in sins they've learned to hide
They prowl in darkness
They are such fools
They seek earth's gold
Not heaven's jewels

The more you give
The more they take
Until desire becomes their ache
They call you friend
Oh pretty please
The practised warmth of enemies

Well the only thing I know
And the bible says it's so
The only only thing I know
Is if you don't love the Lord you'll fall

I had the blues (I've had the blues)
But now I'm feeling well (But now I'm feeling well)
You've got to aim for heaven (You've got to aim for heaven)
Or you'll end up in hell (End up, end up in hell)
You've got to fight that fight (Fight that fight)
You've got to run that race (Run that race)
Or you'll never see him face to face (Or you'll never see him face to face)

A soldiers heart
And love of wealth
A fear of death
That soon will undermine your health
Oh so remote
And out of reach
If you don't change
You'll end up stranded at the, stranded at the beach

You call it love
God calls it lust
You burn inside, faith turned to rust
The thinning hair
The lizard grip
The dreams of glory slowly slip

And the only thing I know
The only thing I know
The only thing I know
Is if you don't love the Lord you'll fall

In the mid 1980s, the Greenbelt Festival organisation released a series of three cassettes, containing rare tracks by artists associated with the festival

Larry Norman appears on Volumes 1 and 2

Volume 1 contained a mix of If You Don't Love The Lord that wasn't released by Larry himself until the 1998 CD Gathered Moments

Volume 2 contained a slightly shortened version of the Tom Howard cover Iron And Steel, from the album Quiet Night. I am unsure which of The Strait Tapes and Quiet Night was released first

The Strait Tapes Volume II, Uncatalogued [1984 or 1985, UK] - Released through the Greenbelt Festival organisation
Iron and steel
[Go to Song Page]

Something brings us life when buried in the earth
Deep inside the dark solid ground
Something in the way that love has given birth
With fire flying all around

Iron and steel, strike it together
Iron and steel, see what is made
Iron and steel, sharp and shining
Metal on metal, like a cutting blade
Ooh ooh yeah

It's so nice when we're seeing eye to eye
When in everything we both agree
But differences will happen no matter how we try
And maybe this is meant to be

Iron and steel, strike it together
Iron and steel, see what is made
Iron and steel, sharp and shining
Metal on metal, like a cutting blade

Tested in the furnace
Buried in the burning coal
It's like it's pounded, beaten
Rhythm of a hammer load

Woah oh

One day we'll be cleansed of all impurity
And we'll be nothing like we were before
We'll be tested for the fight and take the victory
Like weapons in a holy war

Iron and steel, strike it together
Iron and steel, see what is made
Iron and steel, it's sharp and shining
Metal on metal on metal, it's just like cutting blade

(Iron and steel) Woh-oh strike it together
(Iron and steel) Strike it together
(Iron and steel) Strike it together
(Iron and steel) Strike it together
(Iron and steel) Strike it together, strike it together
(Iron and steel) Strike it, strike it, strike it, strike it
(Iron and steel) Iron sharpens iron, so does a friend
(Iron and steel) Sharpen the friendship of another friend
(Iron and steel) If you'll be true and honest and open hearted
(Iron and steel) You'll be friends till the end
(Iron and steel) Why can't we get along
(Iron and steel) Everything we do is criticise
(Iron and steel) Everything I do seems to be wrong
(Iron and steel) At least the way you're looking through your eyes
(Iron and steel) Friend to friend, what's happened, what's happened
(Iron and steel) What happened to our friendship brother
Iron and steel, You say you love me I can see it in your eyes
(Iron and steel) That your smiling face is a shallow disguise
(Iron and steel) Iron and steel
(Iron and steel) Like iron sharpens iron brother
(Iron and steel) What happened
(Iron and steel) What happened to our friendship brother
(Iron and steel) What happened to our friendship brother
(Iron and steel) Brother you should tell me 'cos I don't know
(Iron and steel) You disappeared, where did you go
(Iron and steel)

everybody work
[Go to Song Page]

You know the flesh will make you twist and shout
So with fear and trembling work your salvation out
Everybody work
Everybody work

There are ten commandments, now get this straight
If you keep the first two you'll fulfil the other eight
Everybody work
Everybody work

There's tension between the brothers and the sisters
People need to get along
Open up your hearts to one another
And learn to sing this song

Holy spirit will touch your soul
Stand still, don't rock and roll
Everybody work
Everybody work work work work

If your woman walks out, starts messing about
You must pray for her safety, 'til she works it out
Obedience is better than sacrifice
If you don't die once then you're gonna die twice

Holy spirit make you move about
So with fear and trembling work your salvation out
Everybody work work
Yeah everybody work work work work

(Work work) The spirit is willing
(Work work) But the flesh is weak
And if you're holding (work work) back
It's hard to hear (work work) God speak
Everybody work work work work
Everybody work work work work

Everybody work work
A long time (work work) ago Jesus came to earth (work work)
People didn't wanna know (work work)
Went to the church (work)  and he said this is wrong (work work)
If he were here today he'd (work work) come to us and he'd say this is wrong (work work)
You don't really love one another, not yet (work work) you don't
I said love them as I love them (work work)
Love one another (work work), love one another (work work), love one another (work work)

If you don't know what I'm saying (work work)  go home and pray (work work)
Read your bible and die every (work work) day
Everybody work (work work)
Oh-eh-oh (work work) Oh oh oh everybody work (work work)

(Work work) Everybody work (work work)

stop this flight
[Go to Song Page]

Sixteen hours to London
You know I'm flying on a DC-10
I wonder if when that plane sets down
I'll ever be able to walk again
I spent thirty five days in Europe
Singing 'til my voice is gone
You know there's never time enough to get a good night's sleep
What is this road that I keep running on

I've got to stop this flight
I've got to get back to earth
Hey, I'm a human being
God knows what that's worth

I'm not meant to be trapped on some smoky stage
And end up lonely in my old age
I've got to stop

People try to twist your message
Reporters try to twist your mind
And I just can't wait 'til I can get back home
I really miss that girl of mine
She's the only one I really (can) talk to
She's where my heart begins and ends
It ain't no lust or money relationship, uh uh
We were teenage buddies, childhood friend

I got to stop this flight
Yeah hey I got to get back to earth
Hey, I'm a human being
Only God knows what that's worth

Yeah

I could be dancing like some mover on a empty stage
But I'll be risen from this prison at the end of the age

Woo yeah

Hey

I'm always locked up in the studio
Hey, this ain't no way to live
You know they never like my records 'til the albums sell
They always want more than I can possibly give
I keep struggling for inspiration (Ha ha hu [Under breath])
Hoping that the songs don't flop
And I keep waiting like a beggar for the option to drop
You've got to live up to the contract 'til they tell you to stop

You've got to stop this flight
That's right, get back to earth
Hey, we are human beings
Only God knows what that's worth

Yeah yeah yeah

We're not meant to be trapped in this fleshly cage
And end up screaming like a demon at the end of the age yeah
You've got to stop your flight
You know what I'm talking about

You've got to stop this flight
Stop running around
(Stop this flight) And get your feet on the ground
(Stop this flight) You've got to stop it, stop it, stop it
(Stop this flight) You know who you are
You know what you're supposed to do
(Stop this flight) You've got to stop this flight
You've got to (Stop this flight)
Running around
Yeah

The Cause - Do Something Now, Compassion International / Sparrow SGL 1110 [1985, USA]
do something now
Do we see Jesus in their hungry eyes
Are we so numb that we can't sympathise [Larry and Amy Grant sing this line]
Maybe we're too willing just to eulogize
Instead of rolling up our sleeves and trying
To resurrect a world that's dying
Oh ho we got a world that's dying

Down in Ethiopia a silent baby clings to an empty breast
Ooh ooh ooh down in Ethiopia another cries for food or eternal rest
We can touch somebody
Reach out with love to a helpless face
Everybody is our brother and sister
Reach out and be an agent of grace

Do something now
See their broken lives, pick up the pieces
Do something now
Open up your heart, share the love of Jesus
If we really care, we'll do something now

Here in Utopia they're just another item in the news tonight
Wake up America, they're dying while we're dreaming about paradise
We can touch somebody
Reach out with love to a helpless face
Everybody is our brother and sister
Reach out and be an agent of grace

Do something now

See their broken lives, pick up the pieces
Do something now
Open up your heart, share the love of Jesus
If we really care, we'll do something
You gotta do something

Jesus said
When you do it for one of these
You've done it unto me
When one hurts, we all hurt
'Cause we're a family
There's a blessing when we sacrifice
You got to give yourself away
To save one more life
Just one more life
You can save one more life

Do something now

See their broken lives, pick up the pieces
Do something now
Open up your heart, share the love of Jesus

[Go to Song Page]

We are in the world but not of the world [x2]
Yes
We are set apart (set apart) to live our lives in the light (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)

We were born as slaves but now the king has set us free
And we walk as messengers among the enemy
We have made a choice to obey his voice
And to live each day in such a way that all can see

We are in the world but not of the world [x2]
We are set apart (set apart) to live our lives behind the light (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)

We were children in the darkness, now we've seen the light
And like dreamers have awakened from the endless night
We must walk in faith and learn to run the race
And encourage one another to fight the fight

We are in the world but not of the world [x2]
We are set apart (set apart) to live our lives in the light (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)

When the son of God was born it was not as a king
And he lived each day and faced whatever life would bring
Though he walked with men he did not sin
And he carried out his father's will in everything

He was in the world but not of the world
We are in the world but not of the world
We are set apart (set apart) to live our lives in the light (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh) (In the light)

Spring Song
[Go to Song Page]

You said let there be light in the heavens
You hung the stars up so high
And you put the fish in the ocean
You put the birds in the sky
I walk through the fields
And see life all around
A carpet of green springing out of the ground
Winter is gone and here is the son

The trees wave goodbye to the winter
Their bare arms stretch out in the air
The snow from the mountains is melting
And flowers appear everywhere
For you are the creator
Of heaven and earth
And spring tells the story
Of hope and new birth
Life must end to bloom once again

La la la la la la la la la la la la
La dum do do na ETC

The chatter of birds in the treetops
The scurry of life on the ground
Rise with the son
Spring has sprung and I feel young

The sleeping ground has awakened
It's the end of a long winter night
The colours of spring wash the shadows away
While the darkness gives way to the light
Spring chases the cold
Of the Norwegian rain
Like love and forgiveness
Heal sadness and pain
The earth is alive and so am I
cinderella
[Go to Song Page]

Cinderella, Cinderella, now you must start
Cinderella, Cinderella, to trust with your heart
For you are not alone and this is not your home
Your life has just begun

Cinderella, Cinderella, dry all your tears
Cinderella, Cinderella, quiet your fears
The prince is coming soon
Stop gazing at the moon, look for the son

Cinderella, Cinderella, the time is near
Cinderella, Cinderella, he will appear
You'll be there at his side
He'll take you for his bride and lead you to his throne

Cinderella, Cinderella, open you eyes
Cinderella, Cinderella, look to the skies

He will arrive and then your new life will begin
You're living here and he will take you home

Keep your lamp shining bright
He may come for you tonight

why should the devil have all the good music
[Go to Song Page]

One two, one two three [Spoken]

Yay

I want the people to know
That he saved my soul
But I still like to listen to the radio
They say rock and roll is wrong
We'll give you one more chance
I said I feel so good I gotta get up and dance

I know what's right, I know what's wrong
I don't confuse it
All I'm really trying to say is
Why should the devil have all the good music
I feel good every day, I don't wanna lose it
'Cause Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away

They say to cut my hair
They're driving me insane
I grew it out long to make room for my brain
But sometimes people don't understand
What's a good boy doing in a rock and roll band

There's nothing wrong with playing blues licks
And if you've got a reason, tell me to my face
Why should the devil have all the good music
And I've been filled, I feel okay
'Cos Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away

Oh yes

I ain't knocking the hymns
Just give me a song that has a beat
I ain't knocking the hymns
Just give me a song that moves my feet
Well I don't like none of them funeral marches
I ain't dead yet

Ow

Aaaaw

[Larry sings the next verse]

Jesus told the truth
An’ Jesus showed the way
And there's one more thing I'd like to say
They nailed him to the cross
And they laid him in the ground
But they shoulda known you can't keep a good man down

I feel good every day [Geoff]
I don't wanna lose it [Larry]
All I wanna, all I wanna, all I wanna say is
Why should the devil have all the good music [Both]

I've been filled, an' I feel okay
'Cos Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues [Geoff]
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues [Larry]
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away [Geoff]
Ay-eh-eh-eh-eh-eh-ay yeah-ah-ah

sweet dreams
[Go to Song Page]

What about Cinderella and her glass shoe

She lived happily ever after
Yeah but none of it is true
What about king Midas
When everything turned gold
It's all right when we’re children but not when we are old

Sweet dreams [x3]
Fading before the dawn

Well take a look at the photo of a man and a woman in a perfect world
They got perfect teeth and a lovely tan
Such a beautiful boy and girl
But they don't know each other
They only met today
When the photographer took the picture
And said the check is on its way

Sweet dreams (Hold it, hold it, oh that's beautiful)
Sweet dreams (check is on the way)
Sweet dreams
Fading before the dawn

Somebody creates an image and waits for us to buy
They got our life planned out
From the day we get a person number 'til the day we die
Living in the fairy tale just doesn't make sense
Grass ain't never greener baby (yeah)
Down behind the fence

Sweet dreams [x3]
Fading before the dawn

Sweet dreams, yeah ooh ooh ooh
Sweet dreams, sweet dreams
Fading before the dawn

Uh-ha ha ha ha ha

You wrote the tune that I wanted to sing
You wrote the tune that I wanted to sing
Oh I didn't know your song
I didn't know a thing

I saw a picture that you were still painting
Yeah life was a picture that you were still painting
I fell under the spell
As in a dream I was fainting

High winds are blowing [x3]
I feel them growing
Hmm-mm

I had a dream, I was afraid to touch you
I fell into a dream, I was afraid to touch you
You showed me the palms of your hands
And I knew what you went through
Hmm-hmm

You said just a word and things were changing
I heard your word and things started changing
I felt the fire and saw the world
As everything was rearranging
Da-la-de-da

High winds are blowing [x3]

I feel them growing
Hmm-mm
and i wait
[Go to Song Page]

Hazy mornings from nights without sleeping
On this road the darkness turns to day
So little time is left to sow these seedlings
For I believe that you are on your way

Grown-up men in a world filled with children
Who's going to show them that consuming flame
Who shall console the disillusioned pilgrim
Lift up the book of life and write his name

And I wait, oh how I'm waiting for (oh) [x2]

(Ooh ooh ooh ooh) [x3]
(Ooh ooh ooh)

My heart is beating with a strong desire
The stones are silent on the road ahead
I see my hands and I feel like a liar
Give me true love and let my flesh be dead

I am a troubadour who waits and watches
You said there wouldn't be too much time
We are not poets but if you will touch us
Give these words fire that burns beyond the rhyme

And I wait, oh how I'm waiting for (oh)
And I wait, oh how I'm waiting for, waiting for you (oh)
And I wait, oh how I'm waiting for (oh)
And I wait, oh how I'm waiting for you (oh)
give me something else
[Go to Song Page]

I was walking in the dark
Trying to find my way
Tired of all these earthly things
Where was I to go, I could not say

My mind was torn with questions
My heart was crossed with doubt
My hope dissolved within me
I heard my voice, heard my voice cry out

Hey-hey-hey,  give me something else [x3]

I became dissatisfied
With all that I possessed
Weary of this winding way
I could not, I could not find rest

I stood without direction
My soul was filled with dread
That's when I stretched out my hands
Up to heaven, up to heaven and said

Hey-hey-hey,  give me something else [x6]
you did it for me
[Go to Song Page]

Oh how they hurt you
Oh how they laughed
Oh how they wounded your loving heart

They were strong and able
They drove a nail through each hand
Hm-oh, didn't they understand

Wo-o-wo, I know, now I can see
Wo-o-wo, I know, you did it for them
You did it for me

You made the earth
By your command it moves
They mocked you, come down king of the Jews

I wasn't there in the garden
But I believe you cried
That the sky turned black the moment you died

Wo-o-wo, I know, yes now I can see
Wo-o-wo, I know, you did it for them
You did it for me

They despised your glory
The only son of God
Into the mud, they trampled your crown

You gave your life
So that I could be free
An' I belong to you eternally
Oh-oh-oh

Wo-o-wo, I know, yes now I can see
Wo-o-wo, I know, you did it for them
You did it for me

You did it for me, mm-hmm
You did it for me

Well I hope that somewhere out there is a woman for you

And I hope that someday waiting is a baby or two
'Cause the best gifts in life are kids and a wife
I’ve never wanted to be no star
And I’m afraid that God is still the only reason
That I pick up my guitar

Oh oh oh [x3]

When you’re awake I try to show you all the love I can give
So you’ll have strength for the fight
‘Cause as you get older life gets harder to live
I love you more than anything else on earth
I think about you all the time
And every night I’m praying that the second birth
Will someday be the first thing on your mind

Oh oh oh [x6]

Love might be blind
And life is very often so unkind
But when you’re trying to live the way you should
Sometimes you don’t know right from wrong and white from black
And when you’re trying to love the best you can, baby you don’t hold nothing back

Whoa oh oh whoa woah oh oh whoa woah oh

Well I hope that when you’re older you will understand
Why your life ain’t turning out exactly the way it was planned
'Cause everything keeps changing on this crazy planet
Sometimes I don’t know what I can do, but I’m working hard for our future
So be good to your mother and you’ll make your father happy too

Oh oh oh [x2]
Oh ah ah

Oh oh oh [x3]

Love might be blind

And when I’m trying to love you the best that I can, baby I don’t hold nothing back

Whoa oh oh

Oh oh oh [x2]

Since you came into my life these last three years, I’ve felt a new kind of pain
It really breaks my heart when each tour starts and you’re waving goodbye to the plane
I’d like to live at home for the rest of my life and spend every day playing with you
But that’s not the reason I was put on earth
I gotta make my father happy too

Whoa oh oh whoa oh oh, yes I do
Mmm mm-hmm-mm-hmm-mm, oh oh ho whoa oh ho
Oh oh oh ah oh oh ah oh oh
Oh oh oh whoa oh oh ah oh-oh

Well I hope that somewhere out there it’s all waiting for you
And I hope that when you get there you know what to do
If you fall down get back up, you know I love you so much
And I hope that when you’re out there you will make it through

The father of christian rock, Larry Norman has been absent of late but will soon have a new album out. It's called Home At Last, which will be released in April. Home At Last brings us up to date with Larry. Now he also sings of his settled life with his wife and child in We Three Twogether whilst still featuring his pointed and unashamedly bold christian lyrical content. Like I said listen to that album, out in April [Spoken]

Benson released these radio show format discs each month. This one predated the album Home At Last and so is the first release containing the song Somewhere Out There. Track 8 includes a plug for the upcoming album. (Only the relevant part of the track is transcribed). Note that Somewhere Out There has a better fade out here (and on the Mastertrax cassette) than on any of the formal releases, and is very slightly longer as a result

music to live by minute [track 4]
It's been ten years, and this month on the Music To Live By magazine we'll finally catch up with Larry Norman

I feel like the reason I started singing music was because I wanted to talk to the kids at my schools. You know I, I was kind of out of place in my neighbourhood, I grew up in a black neighbourhood an' I kind of stood out from everyone an' you know I got beat up a lot 'cause you know, what a, what was I doing in their neighbourhood, I was the only white kid in the whole neighbourhood. And my orientation toward eh other people wasn't that they were my friends, it was that I had some distance to cover before they could understand me

You'll also hear new music from Larry Norman, from his album Home At Last

magazine: page #1 [Track 8a - interview]
Hi, I'm your host David Pierce, and today we'll be sharing music and insights with Larry Norman, Harvest and Benny Hester

Our cover story this month is with Larry Norman. Larry's new album project is called Home At Last. It's been ten long years since his last album and some might view this as a comeback album of sorts. But in talking with Larry it becomes quite obvious that he doesn't view it that way

I don't know, I hadn't thought of it that way because I've been recording ah, a new album's worth of material every year since 1966 and I haven't stopped. But eh I think in, in, in people's minds it will be a comeback album because I haven't had a lot of those albums released. Em, the last album I had which was released I recorded in 1978, eh 19, 1976. And it was supposed to come out eh in 1978 after I got back from this tour I went on, this world tour, and it didn't come out until 1981. And eh one of the main problems I've been having these last ten years is I was in a airplane accident and eh, and it kinda halted me finishing different projects just because my, my, my mind was damaged by this accident, my, my brain had been injured

Eh I was in a 747 when the plane landed really hard on the runway. The ceiling came loose and I was the only person in the whole section, so the, this gigantic moulded ceiling hit me on the head and, and I took the full weight of that because there was nobody else there. And 'em I didn't think anything was wrong with me but as the years went by I just couldn't seem to finish an album. And um, I'm sure people realise that Phydeaux was releasing different albums that had parts of other albums on an', kinda to em, people kept writing and saying you know, do you have anything, anything, any music we can hear? So I didn't even wo', I, I was out of the country a lot of this time and my father would, would ship records to people that wrote in to him at Phydeaux Records in San Jose

So, eh finally I was diagnosed in December of eh '87 and treated, and em ju', was an immediate res', you know reaction. Ah I suddenly could think so clearly and get things done so quickly. So that's why Home At Last is coming out now and 'em [Somewhere Out There starts] the Face To Face video came out and the, this, the eh White Blossoms From Black Roots album, compilation of different songs from the sixties, seventies and eighties. That's why that came out. Em, I think the problem's over, medically I, I feel a lot better

As we continue with our talk with Larry Norman, every artist has different methods of choosing material for their new abums, and during the course of the conversation with Larry, that subject came up

Depending on what the concept of the album is and the tone that I wanted to hold for the listener, I pick songs that I've been writing about the subject that I'm in pursuit of you know, I want to, like In Another Land was a, an album for people that are relatively happy an', an' and enjoy the simple things in life but perhaps are a little on the naive side. So I mean I wouldn't call it's for goody two shoes people, but eh it, it's for people that have optimism whereas Only Visiting This Planet, which was on MGM Records instead of Solid Rock, that was ah for people who were cynical, maybe people in college or people that have had given up on eh thinking that life held much for them. And so it's like, like medicine, every album is a different kind of medicine for a different kind of a problem

So this album is really for, it's, it's more of a transcendent album. It's about, it's about values and it's about eh our failures as people as well as christians, but it's not a negative album, it's a very positive album

magazine page #1 [track 8D - country church, country people]
[Go to Song Page]

Last Sunday there was preaching
We all went out to hear
The little church was crowded
The rich and poor were there
It was a splendid sermon
The singing full and free

Country church, country people
With their eyes upon the Lord
Built a church with a steeple
As a place to hear his word
You can live and die in the same small town
[We'll have more with Larry Norman coming up later in the hour on the Music To Live By magazine. Coming up in the next fifteen minutes you'll hear from Harvest... [Spoken]]
But the Lord spreads his love all around

...The music will consist of the new Larry Norman album, also Harvest and the brand new album from Benny Hester. So grab your pencil and jot these three questions down. Question number one: Why did Larry Norman start singing?...
magazine: page #3 [track 11]
...We'll continue with a moment of compassion and part two of our cover story with Larry Norman, when the Music To Live By magazine continues
magazine: page #4 [track 12a]
As we continue with the Music To Live By magazine it's time for part two of our cover story with Larry Norman. As we continue with Larry ah we talked with him a little bit about the songs on his new album. I mean it's been ten years since we've heard an album from Larry Norman and we asked him about the songs Somewhere Out There and Letters To The Church

Somewhere Out There is about my feelings for my son. You know he's only three and a half and I hope that somewhere out there is a woman for you I sing to him, and I hope that waiting somewhere is a baby or two, for the best things in life are kids and a wife, I've never wanted to be a star, and I'm afraid that God is still the only reason that I pick up my guitar. It's about my relationship with my son, it's about my relationship with the world outside my family

Eh the song Letters To The Church is more about not really the state of the church but the state of the, the individual in ah, in a c', in a society where to be a christian is so acceptable that the only pressure that, that seems to be eh created comes from within. Our, our own sin life crowds us away from the foot of the cross. We're not being thrown out of our families or threatened with death or imprisonment like in some countries for being a christian. It's, it's hard to know how deep our commitment is when there's no real line to cross over. So the song is not about a certain TV evangelists, this is what I've heard so far people think that's what it's about. It's not, it's about me, it's about you, it's not a criticism really, it's an encouragement of the individual who can face himself and say yes, this is what I am, I'm lukewarm or I'm, I'm, I'm not as concerned about other peoples eh conversion as I should be. I don't witness on the street, I don't talk to my neighbour next door. I kinda, I'm isolated, I'm in a christian community, [Letters To The Church starts] I go to christian concerts, I buy christian books, I listen to christian albums, I watch christian television. You know the eh, America's probably the only place you can really find your whole world eh in a religious format. And that's what the song is about

Every time I see you, you know I start to cry
I know what you’re doing and that you’re living a lie
And Jesus is waiting outside your door
But you don’t love him like before
And you don’t listen anymore

[Larry]
You speak of compassion but you don’t really care, m-mm-mmm
You can talk of heaven but are you going there

magazine: page #4 [track 12c]
As we were talking with Larry rewards came up, and we just asked him what he feels his reward is going to be

My, my real reward in life hasn't been being on Capitol Records or MGM Records and, and eh being criticised for putting out records that people didn't, at that time understand, but then years later they say oh this is a, this is a christian album. Eh my reward has come from meeting people that I had spoken to years before, and they said you, remember you stopped me on a street in New York and, and eh you talked to me an'. Well I became a christian that day and I, and I never really looked back. I continue to grow as a christian an', and I helped start Jews For Jesus. You know, Susan Perlman told me how I've had an effect on her life, and Moishe Rosen and so, that's, that's my reward. It's not how many gold records that I have, it's how many people did I somehow help without even realising at the time what God might do with their life after their conversion

I. I'm very happy to be a
christian servant. I'm very happy to look back and see that my life meant something in relationship to other people's lives. Because very often at the time I don't see a result, I don't know. You know if someone said how many people came forward tonight, how many people became a christian, I'd say how many people became a christian? Huh, well ask me in twenty years and I'll, maybe I'll have a better idea. 'Cause I don't think we should be counting heads or hearts, we should let the Holy Spirit draw people to himself and then just have faith that God will complete a work the Holy Spirit has started

somewhere out there
[Go to Song Page]

And life is very often so unkind
Sometimes you try to live the way you should
Don’t know right from wrong, white from black

Between 1988 and 1991, Larry produced an eight track cassette titled Caught In Time for Lisa. Larry felt that 'Weyerhaeuser' might be difficult for people to pronounce and encouraged her to call herself Lisa S.  Lisa never actually officially released Caught In Time, but sometimes sold it at her concerts, from January 1992. As well as production, Larry co-wrote the song Closest Friend, sings duet vocals on two tracks, and background vocal, harmonica and acoustic guitar on several songs. The project was expanded and formally issued in 2013 - see below

the dog and the flower
So rock and roll music. Well like where did it come from, I mean like who made it up, you know did the devil make it up? Uh-uh. But some people say that rock and roll is bad, and they say there is proof that it's bad. They say in the laboratories the scientists have taken loudspeakers and placed them against the ears of a dog, and put on a rock and roll record. And after eight hours the dog went mad. They did not say what group the dog was listening to.

They did an experiment with a flower, they took a flower and put it next to a loudspeaker. And after seven hours the flower had completely turned away from the speaker, and faced the opposite direction, and dropped its petals. I would say that is proof. I would say rock and roll is dangerous, and you must be careful, not to play your records around your dogs or your flowers.

[Spoken]
the preacher and rock 'n roll
A preacher in America wrote a book on eh rock and roll and why it is evil. He said that rock and roll is dangerous because it has a back beat. Now, all music has a beat, but most music has a front beat like da-dun-dan-duh da-dun-dun-dun da dun-dun da-but rock and roll has a back beat two goo-da da-duh uh ah da-na ugh da na ah-ugh..... And he says that's why it's bad, because it has a back beat and it's bad for your back.

Uh, if you go to a dance, you know he wrote this in the book, if you're dancing with s', a girl for two or three hours and you move your back bone around then your spinal column releases this fluid. This chemistry goes into your brain and it creates lust. I don't think you should laugh. This man did a lot of personal research.

[Spoken]
i'm in the mood for love
[Go to Song Page]

I can understand why older people don't like rock and roll. Yeah, they never listened to it. They grew up listening to something different, they grew up listening to uh, Tommy Dorsey. Frank Sinatra. You know they grew up listening to songs like: [Spoken]

I'm in the mood for love
Simply because you're near me
Darling but when you're near me
I'm in the mood for love
[Sung acapella]

The words to that song are I'm in the mood for love simply because you're near me, darling when you are near me I'm in the mood for love. That man had no self control. And our parents used to listen to that kind of music all the time? It is no surprise that there are so many of us. [Spoken]
if i got my ticket
[Go to Song Page]

Well I will tell you where rock and roll came from. Rock and roll came from the church. Do you remember 200 years ago when America went over to Africa, and we brought back some people to help us during the summer? Well that's when rock and roll started. Because we told these people about Jesus and God, and they believed us. And they began to think about it and they talked about it to each other, and they began to sing about it. And they sang how they understood it, that God loved them. They were very sad you know, they worked on plantations and they had masters who cracked whips. But they knew that God was a good master. And so they wrote songs, they wrote gospel songs, black hymns. And they sang the way they felt, and they sang songs like this [Spoken]

Lord if I got my ticket, can I ride
If I got my ticket, can I ride
If I got my ticket, can I ride
Up to heaven on that morning

I hear a lot of talk about a gospel train
Better be ready 'cos it's on its way
Be down at the station right on time
If you’re not ready you'll be left behind

If I got my ticket, can I ride
If I got my ticket, can I ride
If I got my ticket, can I ride
Up to heaven on that morning

I hear a lot of talk about a judgement day
You better be ready 'cos it's on its way
Be down at the station right on time
If you’re not ready you'll be left behind

Clean up the world and leave no sin
I tell you brother he is coming again
Lord if I got my ticket, can I ride
If I got my ticket, Lord can I ride
If I got my ticket, can I ride
Up to heaven on that morning

You know they sang spiritual music like that. And you know some of these songs don't you? Negro spirituals, black hymns. Do you know any of them or is this just American? Yeah you know, d'ya, well, tell you we can sing a song together if you all know a song that I know. Which, which song do you know? [Spoken]

But without love, you are nothing, without love

You can learn to play the blues

You can be a French provincial midwife
Or go from door to door with a death-knife

But without love you are nothing, without love
Without love you are nothing, without love

Or a baby stealer
You can drink your life away

But without love you are nothing, without love
Without love you are nothing, without love

my feet are on the rock
[Go to Song Page]

One day my pastor said I believe in rock and roll
And the congregation stopped breathing
I believe in rock and roll and I'm going-a tell you what I believe
I believe my feet are on the rock and my name is on the roll [Spoken, over band intro]

My feet are on the rock, my name is on the roll
Moving and a grooving, it won't satisfy your soul
But when I’m down I go off on my own
And when I feel the need I dance before the throne

The people at my church, my friends down at the school
They think that I'm half crazy, they act like I'm a fool
But I believe, I believe, I believe it in my soul
So when I feel the need I just dance before the throne

Oh yeah

Take it easy, nice and slow
Feel his presence, don’t you know
If he says follow, I will go
I feel like dancing ‘cause he saved my soul

Goliath had a sword, David had a stone
I have got the Lord so I am not alone
If you knock me down
Brother I will not fight you back
'Cos God loves all his children
Red, white, yellow, brown and black

Alright

My feet are on the rock, my name is on the roll
But moving and a grooving it will never truly satisfy your soul
But if you feel empty, if you feel down, if you wanna get close to the Lord
Go into your room, go into your closet and pray
And if you feel the need you just dance before
Dance before
Oh dance before God's throne, woh
one way
[Go to Song Page]

One way, one way to heaven
Hold up high your hands
One way, free and forgiven
Children of the lamb

Two roads diverged in the middle of my life
I heard a wise man say
I took the road less traveled by
An' that's made the difference every night and every day

I say one way, one way to heaven
Hold up high your hands
Follow, free and forgiven
Children of the lamb

In your youth, you mighta known the truth
But then spent many years just going down the wrong track
But now that you're older you should be bolder
It's time that you were turning back, praise God and turn back

One way yeah, (one way to heaven)
You gotta hold your hands up high
Hold your hands up high
One way, you know it's free and forgiven
You will become children of the sky
You can be children of the sky
This world is not your home

jesus freak
[Go to Song Page]

Separated, I cut myself clean
From a past that comes back in my darkest of dreams
Been apprehended by a spiritual force
And a grace that replaced all the me I've divorced

I saw a man with a tat on his big fat belly
It wriggled around like marmalade jelly
It took me a while to catch what it said
'Cause I had to match the rhythm
Of his belly with my head
Jesus saves is what it raved in a typical tattoo green
He stood on a box in the middle of the city
And claimed he'd had a dream

What will people think
When they hear that I'm a Jesus freak
What will people do when they find that it's true
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak
There ain't no disguising the truth

There ain't no disguising the truth (There ain't no disguising the truth)
No I ain't into hiding the truth (No I ain't into hiding the truth)

Kamikaze, my death is gain
I've been marked by my maker
A peculiar display
The high and lofty, they see me as weak
'Cause I won't live and die to the power they seek

There was a man from the desert with naps in his head
The sand that he walked was also his bed
The words that he spoke made the people assume
There wasn't too much left in the upper room
With skins on his back and hair on his face
They thought he was strange by the locusts he ate
You see the Pharisees tripped when they heard him speak
And the king took the head of this Jesus freak

What will people think
When they hear that I'm a Jesus freak
What will people do when they find that it's true
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak
There ain't no disguising the truth [x2]

No I ain't into (No I ain't into) hiding (hiding) the truth (the truth)

People say I'm strange, does that make me a stranger
That my best friend was born in the manger
People say I'm strange, does that make me a stranger
My best friend was born in the manger

What will people think
When they hear that I'm a Jesus freak
What will people do when they find that it's true

Bootleg, A Tribute To Joel Pierce, Chereb Music [1998, USA]
this is alternative choice...
[This is an excerpt from a radio show, where Joel performed part of the song Reader's Digest, with an acoustic guitar]

This is alternative choice and we're about to wrap things up 'cause we've got about ten minutes left. I'd like to take this time to thank my special guest, co-host Joel Pierce

Oh, thank you for having me Tim

And it would be, it would not be a show with Joel Pierce unless we had this next artist, this is Larry Norman, who I, I would have to say from my experience would have to be one of Joel's biggest, eh, favourite artists I do believe. Joel's got plenty of music from Larry Norman, he's like a, a founding father of christian music from the seventies. And he's still recording stuff even though he's had a couple o' heart attacks and stuff like that. So eh, this is a, one of Larry's newest recordings that we're about to play, right after Joel does a little eh, ditty for us

You think it's such a sad thing
When you see a fallen king
Then you find out we're only princes to begin with
And everybody's gotta choose
Whether they win or lose
Follow God or sing the blues
An' who they're gonna sin with
What a mess this world is in
I wonder who began it
Don't ask me, I'm only visiting this planet
friendship's end
There once was a time
When I could call you a friend of mine
A place to hide, where can I find
I wanna leave my, my past behind

Once there was a closeness shared
Each others burdens, together we beared
Your stubborn self will gets in the way
Oh oh, you never listen to anything I say

Though things are different now
Why can’t we make amends
(Why can’t we make amends)
Though things are different now
Why can’t we still be friends
(Why can’t we still be friends)

Now I’ve found someone, someone new
Ah ha
To replace my thoughts of you
Yeah yeah

And now I've found someone else
To replace my thoughts of you
Uh, uh-uh, ah ah yeah

Larry donated Friendship's End to this project. He had been trying to track down the creator of We Wish You A Larry Christmas, only to find that he (Joel Pierce) had recently died in a fire and that his college were planning to put together a tribute CD of his music

chicken blood
[Go to Song Page]

[Matthew, a capella]

There ain't no power in chicken's blood

There ain't no power in a priest
There ain't no power in a voodoo doll
Or in a pagan feast
There ain't no power in Muslim gods
There ain't no power in me
Unless I claim the blood of Christ
'Cause he died to set me free

[Larry]

There ain't no power in chicken's blood
No power in a priest
No power in a voodoo doll
Or in a pagan feast
No power in the Hindu gods
There ain't no power in me
Unless I claim the blood of Christ
'Cause he died to set me free

There's power in the blood
Power in the blood
There's power in the blood of the son

There's power in the blood

There's power in the blood
There's power in the blood of the son

[Matthew]

No power in the tarot
No power in E Ching
No power in meditation
Or scientology
No power in the eucharist
In the level or the square
No power in the crucifix
If you leave him hanging there

There's power in the blood
There's power in the blood
There's power in the blood of the son

[Both]

There is power oh there's power in the blood (There's power in the blood)
(There's power in the blood)
There's power in the blood of the son

[Matthew]

There's power for the saints
There's power for the poor
There's power for the dead in Christ
'Cause they ain't dead no more

[Larry]

There's power for the healing
That we all need within
There's power for the lost
To be found again

[Both]

There's power in the blood
There's power in the blood
There's power in the blood of the son

(Yeah there's power in the blood)
(Oh yes I said there's) power in the blood of the son
(There's power) Power, power (Yes there's power)
Power in the blood of the son (in the son)

(Yes power in the blood) Oh there's power in the blood
(Yes there's power, power in the blood) Power in the blood
(Oh there's power in the blood) Power (Power in the blood) Power
Power in the blood of the son

In the early 2000s, Larry had plans to record a new roster of Solid Rock artists. A major heart attack upon return from the 2001 UK tour left Matthew James' Burned as the only one of these projects to be issued

Larry duets on two songs, and co-wrote the lyrics on one of them - Chicken Blood

Randy Stonehill - Edge Of The World [2004]
we were all so young
[Go to Song Page]

[Sung by Larry]

I was just eighteen, choking back the fright
Waiting in the wings on a Friday night
And I walked on stage with my heart beating like a drum
It was strange but it felt like coming home
Like some deeper truth I had always known
And I couldn't wait to do it again when the show was done
And we were all so young, we were all so young (All so young)

When did the time go by between a thousand cities and the wink of an eye
We were all so young
I guess sometimes I just could not see with that bright spotlight shining down on me
I've always had this song on the tip of my tongue
And we were all so young
We were all so young

It was rock and roll 'bout the gospel truth
And it caused a stir that was front page news
And we quickly learned that you can't please everyone
But we wanted to stand for what is real
For more than the money or a record deal
As the critics all sneered we sang at the top of our lungs
We were all so young, we were all so young
We were all so young, we were all so young

I know the times have changed, but the simple truth, it always stays the same
We were all so young
I never could have dreamed of the hope and joy that a song can bring
I've really got to say I'm a fortunate son
And we were all so young
We were all so young
Hey yeah we were all so young
We were all so young, yeah, yeah
We were all so young

Now the lights grow dim as the time gets near
And my thoughts flood back over thirty years
I still feel just as good as when I first begun
As I gaze at you past the microphone
It's a different view from the one I've known
Now I'm playing my songs for your daughters and your sons
And we were all so young, we were all so young
We were all so young, we were all so young
Yeah

I've travelled this world around, and one by one I've watched the walls fall down
And we were all so young
The hardest thing I find is to keep my focus in complacent times
We climb the ladder with faith, rung by rung,
Yeah, we were all so young, we were all so young
Man, we were all so young, we were all so young
Oh we were all so young, all so young
Yeah, yeah
So young

Lisa Weyerhaeuser - Caught In Time And Space [2013]
closest friend
[Go to Song Page]

[Lisa]
I'd been searching for such a long time
I was tryin' find a reason for my rhyme
Tryin' to make it through another day
Finally I woke up to a better way
I heard a still small voice inside of me say

[Both]
He will be your song
He will make your long day turn around (Turn around)
He will make you stronger
He will understand when the world's demands close in
He will be your closest friend

[Larry]
Well I used to feel so alone
Standing in the shadows and on my own
Looking for a different light
Finally your love broke through the night
When you find the truth you know it's right

[Both]
He will be your song
He will make your long day turn around (Turn around)
He will make you stronger
He will understand when the world's demands close in
He will be your closest friend

[Both]
What can I say to make you realise
How much he really loves you
What can I say to make you understand
You should put your life into his hand

And he will be your song
He will make your long day turn around (he will mend) (he will make you strong)
He will make you stronger

He will understand when the world's demands close in (he will understand)
He will be your closest friend
He will make your long day turn around (he will mend) (he will make you strong)
He will make you stronger
psalm 42

[Larry]
Just as the deer

Thirsts for the water brooks
My soul thirsts for thee

Deep calls to deep
In the roar of your waterfalls
Your waves have swept over me
Oh oh oh God, oh oh oh God

[Both]
My soul thirsts for you Lord
My soul thirsts for you
You're the living God

[Lisa]
Day and night
I will sing my songs of love
A prayer to the God of my life

My hope is in the Lord
I will sing my praise to you
My saviour and my guide
Oh oh oh oh God, oh oh oh oh God

[Both]
My soul thirsts for you Lord
My soul thirsts for you
You're the living God

Just as the deer
Thirsts for the water brooks
So my soul thirsts for thee

Oh oh oh oh God [x2]

My soul thirsts for you Lord
My soul thirsts for you
You're the living God
Sweet Sweet song of salvation
[Go to Song Page]

[Larry lines 1 and 3, Lisa 2 and 4]
Na na na na na na na na

Na na na na na na na na na
I said na na na na nana na na na
Na na na na na-dun na da da na na na

[Lisa]
If you know a pretty story
You don't let it go unsaid
You tell it to your children
As you tuck them into bed
And when you know a wonderful secret
You tell it to your friends
Tell them that a lifetime filled with happiness
It's like a street that never ends

[Both]
Alright now
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let your laughter fill the air
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And tell the people everywhere
You've got to sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
To every man and every nation
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the people know that Jesus cares

[Larry]
Take a look around you as you sing it
Well there are people everywhere
And to those who stop to listen
Your sweet song becomes their prayer

[Lisa]

When you know a wonderful secret
You tell it to your friends

[Larry]

Tell them that a lifetime filled with Jesus
Is like a street that never ends

Alright now, everybody sing that

[Both]
Sweet sweet song of salvation

And let your laughter fill the air
Sing that sweet (sweet) sweet song of salvation
Tell the people everywhere
You've got to sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (of salvation)
To every man and every nation
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (sweet sweet song)
And let the people know that Jesus cares

[Larry]
Alright yeah, everybody dance now, huh, ow, yeah-ah
Everybody
Yeaoh-yeh
Now come on, wave your hands in the air

Oh yeah, everybody

[Both]
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (sing that song of salvation)
Let your laugh fill the air (everywhere you go)
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
Shout and scream it
And tell the people everywhere (sing it like you mean it)
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (sing that song)
Every man and every nation (sing it, ah sing it loud)
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the people know that Jesus care

Oh yeah, oh yeah

Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (oh-oh-oh yeah)
And let your laugh fill the air (go now)

Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (sing that song)
And tell the people everywhere
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (song of salvation)
To every man, every nation
Sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the people know that Jesus cares

Wo-oh yeah
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (that's right)
And let your laughter fill the air (that's what I say)
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (sing that sweet sweet song of salvation)
And tell the people everywhere
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (wo-yeah)
Sing it every night with all your might
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation (song of salvation)
And let the people know that Jesus cares

Let 'em know, let 'em know yeah
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the people know that Jesus cares (yeah, wo wo wo wo wo oh-oh)
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And tell the people everywhere
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
the great american novel
[Go to Song Page]

[Lisa]
I was born and raised an orphan
In a land that once was free
In a land that poured its love out on the moon
And I grew up in the shadows
Of your silos filled with grain
And you never helped to fill my empty spoon

And when I was ten you murdered law
With courtroom politics
And you learned to make a lie sound just like truth
Well I know you better now
And I don't fall for all your tricks
And you lost the one advantage of my youth

You killed a black man at midnight
Just for talking to your daughter
And you made his wife your mistress
And you left her without water
And the sheet you wear upon your face
Is the sheet your children sleep on
At every meal you say a prayer
You don't believe but still you keep on

[Both]
And your money says in God we trust
But it's against the law to pray in school
You say we beat the Russians to the moon
And I say you starved your children to do it

[Larry]
You were far across the ocean
The war was not your own
And while you were losing theirs
You also lost the war at home
Did you really think the only way
To bring about true peace
Was to sacrifice your young men
To kill all your enemies
Oh yeah

[Lisa]
The politicians all make speeches
While the news men all take notes
But they exaggerate false issues
As they shove it down our throats
Is it really up to us
Whether this country sinks or floats
I wonder who would lead us
If none of us would vote

[Larry]
My phone is tapped, my lips are chapped
From whispering through the fence
You know every move I make
Or is that just coincidence
Will you try to make my way of life
A little less like jail
If I promise to make tapes and slides
And send them through the mail

[Both]
Your money says in God we trust
But it's against the law to pray in school
You say we beat the Russians to the moon
And I say you starved your children to do it

You say all men are equal, all men are brothers
Then why are the rich more equal than others
Don't ask me for the answers, I've only found one
That a man leaves his darkness when he follows the son
Between 1988 and 1991, Larry produced an eight track cassette titled Caught In Time for Lisa. Larry felt that 'Weyerhaeuser' might be difficult for people to pronounce and encouraged her to call herself Lisa S.  Lisa never actually officially released Caught In Time, but sometimes sold it at her concerts, from January 1992. As well as production, Larry co-wrote the song Closest Friend, sings duet vocals on two tracks, and background vocal, harmonica and acoustic guitar on several songs. The project was expanded and formally issued in 2013. The expansion includes three Larry covers, two of which are duetted, and another song with background vocals by Larry
