Have you seen what's happened lately
Not much time is left to go
Children of this generation
Changing faster than they grow
Watch out all you children
Close your ears and hide your eyes
Don’t be stiffened by the rust that
Sets you living pre-planned lives
Look around the world we've fashioned
Built it up so you could take
Modern ways to make you happy
But you don’t appreciate
Watch out all you children
Close your ears and hide your eyes
Don’t be stiffened by the rust that
Sets you living pre-planned lives
I hope you know where you're going
The road sign points at nowhere
The drums of flames surround you
Rivers of age can drown you
Oh
How can we be proud and trusting
When you throw your lives away
Never think about the future
How could you have gone astray
Watch out all you children
Close your ears and hide your eyes
Don’t be stiffened by the rust that
Sets you living pre-planned lives
Have you seen what's happened lately

Something’s there in the fire escape
It’s not working anymore
Something’s on my mind
Never there before
I gotta know
I gotta go
I gotta see
What’s after me
Down the streets and alley ways
Now they’re hiding in the fog
Something’s on my mind
Now it’s getting dark
I gotta know
I gotta go
I gotta see
What’s after me
Nothing can stop the elephants
Nothing can stop the elephants
Ah ah
Nothing can stop the elephants
Nothing can stop the elephants
Nothing can stop the elephants

ashes of me

Make your distinctive statements good friends
Print all my features then print them again
All who find time to look through their hair
See only collages of me standing there
Ooh ooh
I’ve stopped short of reading my name on the wall
The name I was given is not mine at all
Run from your corners and smack into walls
Your one point of view just has no view at all
Stand up and brag to your neighbour, I’m free
But what does it matter, they’re deaf and can’t see
Ooh ooh oh woh
Make your distinctive statement good friends
Print all my features then print them again ooh woh
Signs on theatres invite you to see (Ah ah ah ah)
A colourless movie that’s featuring me (Ah ah ah ah)

crying shoes
[Go to Song Page]
Little girl got your crying shoes on
Done left them in the rain
Don’t put ‘em on for the sunny day blues
Will only bring you pain
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Just take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Laughing in the morning ‘fore the sun comes up
Won’t take the shine away
Smile at the sun on a crying day
The shoes won’t wanna stay
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Just take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Yeah
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Crying shoes, laced up with the blues
Crying shoes, chasing after you
Crying shoes
Crying shoes
Bring ‘em on home to you
Little girl got your crying shoes on
Done left them in the rain
Don’t put ‘em on for the sunny day blues
Will only bring you pain
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me [x4]
Little girl got your crying shoes on
Done left them in the rain
Don’t put ‘em on for the sunny day blues
Will only bring you pain
But if you need some crying done

i love you
[Go to Song Page]
Ooh ooh ooh ooh
I love you, I love you
I love you, yes I do
But the words won’t come
And I don’t know what to say
I should tell you I love you I do
The words should explain
But the words won’t come
I shouldn’t hide
My love deep inside
The words should explain
But the words won’t come
I should tell you just how I feel
And I keep trying
But something holds me back when
I try to tell you
I love you, I love you
I love you, yes I do
I love you, I love you
I love you, yes I do
But the words won’t come
And I don’t know what to say
I shouldn’t hide
My love deep inside
The words should explain
But the words won't come
If you could see
What you mean to me
The words should explain
But the words won’t come
And oh how hard I try to tell you
I love you
But something holds me back when
I try to tell you

we need a whole lot more of jesus and a lot less rock and roll
[Go to Song Page]
Let us all stand for this [Spoken]
You can read it in the morning papers
Hear it on the radio
How crime is a-sweeping our nation
This world is about to go
We need a good old case of salvation
To keep the love of God in our souls
We need a whole lot more of Jesus
And a lot less rock and roll
We need more old fashioned preachers
Pouring out their hearts in prayer
'Cause when you’re in their presence
Why you know that the Lord is there
Hallelujah, brethren (Hallelujah reverend)
We need a nationwide revival
To keep the love of God in our souls
We need a whole lot more of Jesus
And a lot less rock and roll
We need a whole lot more of Jesus
And a lot less rock and roll
Amen
Will you all be seated now? [Spoken]

This song is titled incorrectly on the original LP sleeve as (What We Need Is A Lot More Jesus And A Lot Less Rock 'n' Roll).
the epic
[Go to Song Page]
High on a hill
In Canthian Green
Born to the throne of a
Bolingsworth queen
Alain duc L’Anglais
Heir to the king
And all of the land
In Canthian Green
[First two verses are sung and spoken in unison]
La la la la la
La la la la la-ah
And on the night of that
Bolingsworth day
Deep in the woods
Through Rivington Glade
The woodcutter Charles
And Kristin his maid
Gave life to the girl child
Tory Kincaid
La la la la la
La la la la la-ah
Children of fate
Caught in a dream
Under the stars
Of Canthian Green
Alain duc L’Anglais
Son of a king
Bravest of all in
Canthian Green
One of his princely pleasures are
Riding his horse both near and far
Out in the early morn’ he goes
In his gounting clothes
Rides through the woods with the speed of wind
Stops for a drink in a shady glen
Then takes note of a lovely maid
Bathing in the shade
Hides among the watercress
Staring at her lovely breasts
Wonders if he’s in a dream
She’s the most beautiful maid I've ever seen
Tory ah
I must tell her my name
And must ask her the same
We will talk and in time
She’ll decide to be mine
[Says something in a foreign language]
We will talk and in time
She’ll decide to be mine
[More foreign speech]
Courting maidens is my pleasure
Lovely ladies at my leisure
Tory is no easy treasure
When I’m with her nights in flower
Reasons not have I to doubt her
But I lock her in the tower
Throw away the key
You can’t go running all over the country
There’s perilous dangers
Mysterious strangers
And fire breathing dragons
Dragons, dragons
I’m going hunting in the country
After something
In the country
And when I’m hunting in the country
There’s just one thing
I must do
Ah ah ah
Oh, what a dream [Very faintly]
One, two, three [Spoken]
Just come back, I killed the dragon
Fixed his wagon good
And his fire’s gone out
And he’s dead no doubt
You were always in my dreams
And on my mind
Though afraid l’d die
It’s so good to see
You’ve come back again
Uh back again to me
You were always in my dreams
And on my mind
Though afraid l’d die
It’s so good, oh so good to see, yeah
You’ve come back again, man, back again to me
Oh mamma
It’s so good to see
You’ve come back to me
You’ve come back again
Back again to me

Note that the Norman Records CDs added a bonus track, the single version of I Love You. This is the full length "dry" mix and lyrically identical to the album version
My big plans for releasing a seven album song cycle started crashing immediately. On the first album the theme was "let there be light" - - - the first day of Creation. There is a light switch on the bottom right hand of the artwork to We Need A Whole Lot More Of Jesus, And A Lot Less Rock And Roll. But when it was released it was not the album it could have and should have been.
Billboard Magazine album review, July 20, 1968: Group had a big singles hit with "I Love You," but that's sure to prove just the beginning. The creative and intriguing sounds in the grooves of their first LP assure us they'll be around for some time to come. The entire second side of this disk is devoted to an ambitious project entitled "The Epic," while they leave room for diversification on side one. Should be a steady seller.
Capitol used several different factories to press their US records. Pressings from each can be identified by symbols etched in the matrix area:
- Jacksonville, Florida - signified by the letter O, which sometimes looks like an octagon, and a 1.5" diameter pressing ring
- Los Angeles, California - signified by what looks like the petals of a flower / an asterisk, and a 1 9/16" diameter pressing ring
- Scranton, Pennsylvania - signified by the letters I AM inside a triangle. Some pressings also had an & symbol, indicating that the lacquers were stereo
- Winchester, Virginia - signified by a line that branches into a triangle. The symbol looks like a long stemmed wine glass, and is intended to represent a Winchester rifle. Winchester pressings have a 1.390625" diameter pressing ring. Side 1 also had a 0.34375" ring and side 2 a 0.53125" ring. Note that production in the Winchester plant started in 1969, so there are no Winchester pressings of this album

These sleeve photographs are of the copy that was in Larry's personal archives. The label photo is, um, borrowed from the internet...
Note that this is a counterfeit / bootleg, though it is possible that Larry had some involvement in it. He is known to have endorsed, encouraged or even instigated several fan created bootlegs, including the Reel Live series, and Gathered Moments
Larry copied the Korean CD, as he considered it to have superior sound quality than the US CD
