Lyrics version 1 and 2
Little girl got your crying shoes on
Done left them in the rain
Don’t put ‘em on for the sunny day blues
Will only bring you pain
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Just take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Laughing in the morning ‘fore the sun comes up
Won’t take the shine away
Smile at the sun on a crying day
The shoes won’t wanna stay
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Just take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Yeah
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Crying shoes, laced up with the blues
Crying shoes, chasing after you
Crying shoes
Crying shoes
Bring ‘em on home to you
Little girl got your crying shoes on
Done left them in the rain
Don’t put ‘em on for the sunny day blues
Will only bring you pain
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me [x4]
Done left them in the rain
Don’t put ‘em on for the sunny day blues
Will only bring you pain
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Just take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Laughing in the morning ‘fore the sun comes up
Won’t take the shine away
Smile at the sun on a crying day
The shoes won’t wanna stay
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Just take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Yeah
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Crying shoes, laced up with the blues
Crying shoes, chasing after you
Crying shoes
Crying shoes
Bring ‘em on home to you
Little girl got your crying shoes on
Done left them in the rain
Don’t put ‘em on for the sunny day blues
Will only bring you pain
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me [x4]
lyrics version 3
Little girl got your crying shoes on
Done left them in the rain
Don’t put ‘em on for the sunny day blues
Will only bring you pain
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Laughing in the morning ‘fore the sun comes up
Won’t take the shine away
Smile at the sun on a crying day
Them shoes won’t wanna stay
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me (you)
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to you
Crying shoes, laced up with the blues
Crying shoes, chasing after you
Crying shoes
Crying shoes
Bring ‘em on home to you
Little girl got your crying shoes on
Done left them in the rain
Don’t put ‘em on for the sunny day blues
Will only bring you shame
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me [x3]
You better take them shoes and bring 'em on home to me
Done left them in the rain
Don’t put ‘em on for the sunny day blues
Will only bring you pain
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me
Laughing in the morning ‘fore the sun comes up
Won’t take the shine away
Smile at the sun on a crying day
Them shoes won’t wanna stay
But if you need some crying done
Oh won’t you cry just for anyone
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to me (you)
Take them shoes and bring ‘em on home to you
Crying shoes, laced up with the blues
Crying shoes, chasing after you
Crying shoes

Infantile regression and personal obsession will affect many citizens. Shoes will be difficult to buy when fashionistas are imprisoned because they represent creative thought and indendence [independence] from "rational" criteria. Clothes can be traded or patched up, but shoes eventually wear out and can't be repaired so citizens guard their shoes carefully. The focus of their world, in a future world of shortages, will be food and shoes. The homeless sleep with their shoes underneath them to prevent silent theft in the night. The message is clear. "If you want my shoes . . . you'll have to kill me to get them". (I had [been] living, as flat-mates, with Denny for months and l was teaching him how to play guitar and basic piano and encouraging him to become a writer. This was the very first song he had ever written.)
