stop this flight
[Go to Song Page]
Sixteen hours from London
Flying on a DC-10
You know I wonder if when that plane sets down
I'll ever be able to walk again
I spent thirty five days in Europe
Singing 'til my voice is gone
You know there's never time enough to get a good night's sleep
What is this road that I've been running on
I've got to stop this flight
I got to get back to earth
Hey, I'm a human being
God knows what that's worth
I'm not meant to be stranded on some empty stage
And end up lonely in my old age
I've got to stop
Stop this flight
People try to twist your message
Reporters try to twist your mind
You know I just can't wait 'til I can get back home
I really miss that girl of mine
She's the only one I really (can) talk to
She's where my heart begins and ends
It ain't no lust or money relationship, uh uh
We were teenage buddies and childhood friends
Come on stop this flight
Help me God, get back to earth
Hey, I'm a human being
God knows what that's worth
And now I'm moving like a dancer on a empty stage
But I'll be risen from this prison at the end of the age
Yeah eh
Oh
I'm always locked up in the studio
Hey, this ain't no way to live
You know they never like my albums 'til the records sell
And they always want more than I can possibly give
I've been struggling for inspiration
An' hoping that the songs don't flop
And I'll be waiting like a beggar for the option to drop
You've got to live up to the contract 'til they tell you to stop
You've gotta stop this flight
You've got to get back to earth
Hey, we are human beings
God knows what that's worth
We're not meant to be trapped in this fleshly cage
And end up screaming like a demon at the end of the age
We're meant to stop the flights (Stop this flight)
That's right stop it stop it (Stop this flight)
You've got to stop your flight (Stop this flight)
Stop your flight
(Stop this flight) Stop running around
(Stop this flight) Get your feet on the ground
(Stop this flight) You've got to stop this flight
(Stop this flight) You know who you are
(Stop this flight) You know what you're supposed to do
(Stop this flight) You've got to stop this, stop, stop, stop
(Stop this flight) Running around

a woman of god
[Go to Song Page]
If you're eighteen years old and you're in love and it's the real thing, and you want to get married. Yeah, I suggest you wait until you're nineteen. 'Cause sometimes you, you don't know who you're in love with because you don't even know who you are. Takes a while to find out what you want, where you're going, who you are. But don't be in any rush to drag somebody else along with you [Spoken]
Oh yeah eh eh
I need a woman who doesn't take drugs, an' mess with men
Believes the bible and despises sin
Lifts me up instead of knocking me down
Follows God instead o' running around
I need a woman who's kind and true
I haven't found her but until I do
I'll be looking for a woman of God
A woman with a righteous heart
I'll be looking for a woman of God
Who doesn't easily fall apart
I need a woman who knows the measure of what she's worth
Stores up treasure but not on earth
Seeks God's will in all that's done
And keeps her eyes on the holy one
I need a woman who's kind and true
I haven't found her but until I do
I'll be looking for a woman of God
A woman with a righteous heart
You know I'm looking for a woman of God
Who doesn't easily fall apart
The bible says a good wife who can find, she's more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband is glad in her. She clothes her children in purple. Her lamp does not go out at night. She is known among the people in the city. And her children, her children shall rise up and call her blessed [Spoken]
Oh I'm looking for a woman of God
A woman with a righteous heart
You know I'm looking for a woman of God
Who doesn't easily fall apart
Oh oh oh oh
I'm looking for a woman of God
A woman with a righteous heart (Ooh ooh ooh)
You know I'm looking for a woman of God (Ooh ooh ooh)
Who doesn't easily fall apart
Yeah eh yeh
Yeah I'm looking for a woman of God
Yeah, ???

what's wrong with this body
[Go to Song Page]
Hey it's nice to have so many nice people here tonight and it's really nice to, you know what, when you're nice to people they're nice to you back, it's nice. And the bible says that the heart is desperately wicked and deceitful above all things. Who can know it? I don't think we believe that. I don't think there's many people here who would say yeah that sounds like me. That the heart is desperately wicked? Yeah that's me. And deceitful above all things who can uh, ye-yeah that's me, yeah that's me, yeah. No I, I think we get the idea that we're, we're really nice people, and doesn't matter if God sees our hearts the way they really are. We know differently. We're, we're, we're good people. Yeah we do, we do bad things but, well it's kinda hard to explain, because we are good. We just do bad things. What's wrong with this community? What's wrong with this world? What's wha, what's wrong with us who are brothers and sisters and believe in one God in the spirit, and Christ? [Spoken]
What's wrong with this body
Ah this body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
You know this body needs healing
And it needs to be filled
We ought to stand on our feet and start trying
If a man should divorce the wife of his youth
Just to marry another woman
And his life goes off course and he strays from the truth
Let his fall be to all a kind of omen
What's a wrong with this body
Ah this body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
You know this body needs healing
We need to be filled
We got to stand on our feet and start trying
When a friend turns his back and grows jealous and cruel
And tries to destroy your reputation
You will gain what he takes
If you pray for that friend
And you concentrate on your own salvation
Come on what's wrong with this body
Ah this body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
You know this body needs healing
It needs to be filled
We've got to stand on our feet and start tying [I believe Larry mis-sung the word trying]
Go
What's wrong with this body
This body is [ill]
It's full of dis[ease] and it's [dying]
You know this body needs [healing]

You got to stand on your [feet] and start [trying]
You people are sick
What's a wrong with this body

It's full of dis[ease and it's dying] and it's dying
You know this body needs healing
And need to be filled
We've got to stand on your feet
You've got to get on your knees
You've got to fall on your face and start dying to self
And living unto, living unto God

don't you wanna talk about it
[Go to Song Page]
If you have a friend and your friend's in trouble, you know what you're supposed to do. You're supposed to call everybody up on the telephone an' and tell 'em what's wrong with your friend. So you can all pray for him. Huh, no, we're supposed to love one another and not do anyone harm. If someone harms you, turn your other cheek to them also and return anger with kindness. The bible says that a soft tongue breaks a bone and the wounds of a friend are faithful but the kisses of an enemy are deadly [Spoken]
True and faithful are the wounds of a friend
Who keeps on praying that this war will end
My heart is broken and I need it to mend
Don't you wanna talk about it
You're drinking water from a bitter well
Down on the beach I see these broken shells
Paradise has fallen, I'm surprised you can't tell
Don't you wanna talk about it
A line is drawn (the fear of death)
A bridge is crossed (the savoire faire)
A friend is gone (the ratty breath)
But is not lost (the falling hair)
I watch the sky (the lizard grip)
I see a falling star (the vacant stare)
And I ask the Lord
I wonder where you are
Kingdoms of earth they don't mean nothing to me
I'd give my life if it would help you be free
This ain't the way that God intends it to be
Don't you wanna talk about it
I called your lawyer but he said you were gone
I didn't see you 'cause your headlights weren't on
You shut the door and faded into the dawn
Don't you wanna talk about it
A line is drawn (the fear of death)
A bridge is crossed (the savoire faire)
A friend is gone (the ratty breath)
But is he lost (the falling hair)
I pray each night (the lizard grip)
I ask the Lord on high (the vacant stare)
Where you are
And I ask him why
Why must this go on
This battle inside that rages and rages
Like some restless tide
Over, over and over again
The flesh and spirit come against each other
An' I love you my brother, my brother
I love you, I love you, I love you, I love you (I love you [x6])
It goes on and on
This night does not end

and we sing the tune
[Go to Song Page]
I was alone and without love
Hope was fading fast
Slipping right on past
Then by some grand design
She came along and heard my song
And sang the harmony
She was right on key
And she was right on time
And now I'm hers, she is mine
We sing together now
She knows the words somehow
And I love her true
And we sing the tune
Love is a song from heaven
She is the love that I've been given
I was alone, I was unsure
She reached out to me
And she helped me see
That I still had a chance
I still had a chance
To open up, to come alive
And to love again
It was only then
That I joined in the dance
Oh ho
And I am hers, she is mine
We sing together now
She knows the words somehow
And I love her true
And we sing the tune
Thank you [Spoken]

out of my system
[Go to Song Page]
Sometimes you think you're in love with somebody and uh, like remember when you were in school and you fall in love with somebody and it's, it's, it's true love and then a week later it's gone. Well sometimes that happens when you get older too, but it lasts longer than a week. When you're, when you're young eeh, sometimes you like two or three people at the same time you know and I mean you righ.. I think you'll remember, if you're a girl you'll remember writing down the names in the order of preference. Yeah. And about five minutes later you, you thought no that's wrong and you rearranged the order. Well that's not what I mean by lasting love. I'd like to sing a song about love that does not last. At some point you have to get over your feelings for your third grade sweetheart or your girlfriend who left you for another guy. This world we live in is a very difficult passage for everyone. Some people have good lives or sweet lives and their life is very difficult too. No one has such an easy life that they don't see the problems of living that perhaps only a God could solve. And this causes many people to search for a God and to call out to him, and he is there [Spoken]
The switch is off, the lights are out
It took no special wisdom
To pull the plug and cut the wires
And now you're out of my system
It took me years to change the gears
I could barely twist 'em
But now you're gone the tears have dried, I died
Now you're out of my system
You're out of my
You're out of my system [x2]
You led me on with words of love
I just couldn't resist 'em baby
You never meant those things you said, that's all right
You're out of my system
Wo oh oh oh
You're out of my
You're out of my system
You're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my system [x2]
You'd disappear until the morning light
So many alibis I can't list 'em baby
I used to lie awake at night, all right
Now you're out of my
You know you're out of my
You ran around with other men
Ooh you made love and kissed 'em baby
But now you're gone do what you want
I don't care because you're out of my
You know you're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my system
You're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my
You're out of my system
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

When you first begin your journey
You're not sure of who you are
And the lessons that you're learning
They don't seem to take you far
And you just can't keep from stumbling
Though you try so hard to stand
And the truth can be so humbling
When it's just beyond your hand
As though youth were my invention
As though love lay undefined
To stay free was my intention
To stay young and unconfined
And so I held my pride above you
Oh yes what a fool was I
Holding back those words God loves you
And letting out that word goodbye
I was wrong to let you go
I was a child and I did not know
About the love that we both could have given
And now you're gone so far away
I hope I'll see you again someday
But if I don't, I hope I'll see you in heaven
I was foolish in my younger days
To think they'd never end
Life confused me with its changing ways
And I could not comprehend
All the meaning in those moments
Now lost like footprints in the sand
And I'm standing here remembering
But it's so hard to understand
I was wrong to let you go
I was a child and I did not know
About the love that we both could have given
And now you're gone so far away
I hope I'll see you again someday
But if I don't, I hope I'll see you in heaven
I've been sitting in this garden
In the middle of my days
And my memories fade and harden
As the years they slip away
And I've been looking in this mirror
At the age around my eyes
Time is such an earnest labourer
Precision is his neighbour
Lay my body in the ground
But let my spirit touch the skies
And I was wrong to let you go
I was a child, how could I know
About the love that we both could have, should have given
And now you're gone so far away
I hope I'll see you again someday
But if I don't, I hope I'll see you in heaven
If I don't, I hope I'll see you in heaven
Well if I don't, I hope I'll see you in heaven

Darkness fell on everyone
Rivers of blood were running

The vinyl releases (Phydeaux, DTS and Royal Music) are musically identical apart from Messiah on the Phydeaux version having a longer fadeout, and including two or three seconds of the introduction to the next song. The CDs have the shorter fadeout, and the Solid Rock CDs add a number of bonus tracks of Larry describing the album and songs, plus a studio version of What's Wrong With This Body

radio interview (tour, stop this flight)
Em, the eh tour we did was em kinda different from what I'd done before. I mostly did new songs, that was one of the things eh. There was kind of a theme I'd chosen in the songs that we put out on the album. Eh, eh that was eh, choosing certain songs that went this direction. Ah but em, well kinda hard to explain it all but because em I had not been able to memorise my lyrics because of the airplane accident, I just wasn't singing any new songs and people uh ts eh. I didn't know about it 'til I read about it but they were saying oh he hasn't written songs, new songs in a long time, and eh I had written a lot of new songs but I just couldn't memorise 'em. So it finally occurred to me - this'll show you how the brain wasn't working - didn't occur to me to have a piece of paper with the lyrics on stage. It occurred to me finally before this tour, hey, I could just make giant cue cards and put 'em all over the stage and nis, you know, walk over to a certain song if I'm starting to, to blank out and just read the lyrics. So that's eh why I was able to all, most all new songs. Eh we did a few old ones 'cause people don't wanna hear a bunch of new stuff without some old stuff for reference
Stop This Flight was really a, kind of em commentary on the industry that I'm. I'm working in. I, I don't consider myself part of the industry but there is a, a music industry. And em the record companies, they want a lot, they want you to do a lot. They wanna push you and get you on a treadmill and so the song about Stop This Flight is eh about hey I, I wanna stop and get off this treadmill, which I did a few years back. Eh and just completely separated myself from the industry. But it's also about life, it's about eh when are we gonna stop our flight, our personal flight from whatever we might be running from or being unable to deal with. When are we gonna stop that flight and get back to earth. You know we are human beings and only God knows what that's worth

radio interview (a woman of god)
A Woman Of God. It's a song that em picks up on, on the eh theme really that, that we ended up using for the album, which was the separation, eh isolation, the, the eh, the distance between people. Em, I need a woman who, instead of saying I need a woman who is, who is, who is like this, like this, like this. The verse was saying I, I need a woman who doesn't do these things, who isn't like this, who you know. I really got the idea from ah reading eh what Solomon wrote, and I thought yeah that's just as true now as it was back then. Eh, some people think it's a love song or a song, a searching song. It's, it's just really a statement of, of we have to be careful what we sign, we gotta watch what we're doing, we gotta, when you enter into a relationship it's important to know who the person is and it's not always easy to know exactly what they're like an', an' perhaps we ourselves aren't sure what we're like although we think we know ourselves sometimes like the bible says the heart can be desperately wicked and deceitful above all things, who can know it? Then man is very man like, isn't he?
radio interview (what's wrong with this body)
What's Wrong With This Body is, is on a bigger scale just a look at the, the entire community and eh asking the question when we find out what we're like, hey, what's wrong with us, you know why do we do these things that we do? Like Paul said, the things I want to do I don't do, the things that I, that I don't wanna do, that's what I do. And em, so the song is not me standing there pointing my finger an', and eh criticising people, it's an inner examination too. What is wrong with us? You know what, why are we the way we are?
radio interview (don't you wanna talk about it)
Don't You Wanna Talk About It. Okay that song is eh just about the distance between people who communicated at one time and don't anymore. And, and only if two people are willing to discuss what's going on can there be a conversation. If only one person wants to resolve it, if only one person wants to be friends or, or eh find out why is there so much dissonance you know in the eh, why is there so much static in the, in the relationship. Uh, two people have to want it otherwise it's very possibly nothing will ever happen to bring that friendship or that relationship back
radio interview (and we sing the tune)
And We Sing The Tune is about, eh well there's The Tune, you might know The Tune. Eh And We Sing The Tune is kind of a metaphorical way of, of saying that two people meet and they find that they are both able to sing in, in key with each other, in harmony, and that the sound they make together, the life they, they discover together is one that's em encouraging to them and, and harmonious and not, not destructive and, and eh confusing. So it's, si', it's a love song but, but I didn't just wanna say oh baby baby baby. So em it's a different kind of love song
radio interview (out of my system)
Out Of My System. That is about trying to get over a real toxic kind of experience with somebody. Eh you can forgive people more easily sometimes than you can forget. Eh uh you know, that song I've grown accustomed to your face, you know, I'm so familiar with the memory of you. Eh it's kind of like the end eh at some point has to come, sanity has to come. You have to survive a bad relationship, i' it just can't go on tormenting you
What they say about a relationship with someone, maybe you're married to and they die or divorce, which can be worse because they're not dead, they just wish you were. You know or, ha, they're still there, I mean it's easier to, to miss somebody who's gone but when somebody leaves, they're, they're eh still around. So what they say is it takes about half of the time of the relationship. If you're married for twenty years you might go on missing that loved one for ten more years, eleven more years. And the same with eh any kind of divorce or a friendship even that. You miss that person. You're so used to them, you've grown accustomed to their, their ambience, their, their existence. And, and at some point you just have to get it out of your system and realise th' that relationship is not there for you anymore. In, in the way that men live their lives things die and stay dead and you have to somehow go on

radio interview (i hope i'll see you in heaven)
I Hope I'll See You In Heaven. Em a lot of people feel different things about this song so I don't wanna specifically define it. But eh it could be, like eh your grandparents, not spending much time with them when you're little because you're such a young you know four or five year old that you're running around of course. It's hard for a child to talk to somebody who's so much older than they are but eh then you miss them when they die. Or sometimes you move you know an' you don't get to see anybody, eh th', a certain person ever again. Or ah somebody you wish you had talked to. You wish you, you had been more wise at the time you knew them and could have given more to them, more of your friendship, more depth than you, you had at your disposal. And you just hope that wow, if you never see them again here on earth you, you hope that you'll see them in heaven
radio interview (messiah)
Messiah. Yeah well that's, it was originally a, an armageddon diary, it was eh somebody describing all the tanks and all the smoke, the bombs and everything going on around but then it, it became more refined as time went by. What happens is sometimes I lose my lyrics, I can't find 'em. Sometimes I discover them years later wedged in between a, a notebook or something. Eh but I have to rewrite my songs sometimes. But I know that, that usually they come out better, because the inkling of the idea is still somewhere in my mind and I know what I wanna say, and now I'm saying it not for the first time but I'm rewriting it. So eh the version of Messiah that people are most familiar with now is one that is probably a little more appealing to them than the blood and guts of the, the armageddon diary
radio interview (the album)
This, the whole album starts off with a instrumental, which is supposed to just put them in the mood, it's kind of a, when you listen to it. Not at the concert 'cause you don't know what's going on at the concert, you just go huh, they're playing this eh stuff and where's the band? Huh? Where's the band? Is that on tape? No, there's a guy up there. Huh, that's guy's playing that. Hmm, I wonder if this is like the intro to a song or is this the opening act or what's going on? But what it's supposed to do is put you in the mood to think. It's kind of eh like rumination, just cogitating emotionally, eh settling down. So that's why it's on the album, it's just an introduction of emotion to the songs of eh isolation, alienation, distance, sorrow, loss, em, the death of things loved
Eh, I really don't know what else to say about it. Eh I hope you enjoy it and eh that it, the songs make sense and em someday I won't have to have lyrics sheets on stage maybe. But for right now um I feel kind of silly not looking at the people all the time and instead staring at the words but eh [laughs] I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just trying to sing some new songs

what's wrong with this body
[Go to Song Page]
If a man turns his back on the faith of his youth
To pursue earthly ways, he'll lose contentment
When he falls on hard times we should pray for that friend
Help to heal him from bitterness and resentment
What's wrong with this body
This body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
This body needs healing
We need to be filled
We've got to stand to our feet and start trying
When your friend slipped away, caught up in their own lies
And fake rumours, embellished your reputation
Then the Lord will restore the years the locusts have eaten
If you concentrate on your own salvation
What's wrong with this body
This body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
This body needs healing
We need to be filled
We've got to stand to our feet and start trying
When the strength of your hope fades and withers within
You must cast all your cares upon heaven
You must die unto self and live unto God
And keep walking the path of the forgiven
What's wrong with this body
This body is ill
It's full of disease and it's dying
This body needs healing
We need to be filled
We've got to stand to our feet and start trying [x2]
Let him pray for that da-nun
Da la ta da da da
And recover from bitterness and resentment
