You Are Not My People |

Published on Bandcamp on March 1, 2023
Note that the last two tracks are removed, and Everybody Work edited |
This title, released as part of Larry's sixtieth birthday celebration covers the two band concerts Larry performed at the Flevo Festival in Holland. As such it is (apart from the last two tracks) a compilation of the albums Live At Flevo With Q-Stone (1989) and Shouting In The Storm (with the band Beam, 1998)
There is a lot of similarity between this album and Road Rage, which was also a compilation of the two Flevo titles. This is how Larry described the album when it was released:
---
"You Are Not My People" (Hosea 1:10)
(John 10:16) "... I have other sheep that ye know not of"
This CD is a great concept, from the front cover, drawn by Bob Inwood, to the back which is a sea of grey and a photo of Larry with his arm in a sling. This is based on the famous Trade Mark of Quality records. TMQ was the very first bootleg company to issue vinyl recordings in 1970 and distributed through the "underground". Bill Stout drew all of the covers and the cartoonish caricatures actually looked like the recording artists. You also had all the fun of trying to figure out what kind of album it was. Studio, recordings, live in concert performers, demos, eavesdropping at rehearsals, or a combination of all of them.
YOU ARE NOT MY PEOPLE is a "judgment release". It is in response to very hateful audiences in Holland, Germany and France. You are familiar with these songs, performed here live in concert. This is the ultimate version of these songs, culled from the CD "Road Rage" which Larry ultimately wasn't happy with and was waiting until the few that we made in the office were finally gone.
Then Larry could take some of the music out and add better music in its place. So this is a great album which shows Larry's vocal power. energy and prowess before he became sick. It is a powerful collection you will probably want your friends to hear.
In the tradition of the TMQ bootlegs, we have not printed the titles. We have, instead, printed phrases from the lyrics which are the most familiar.
---
Note that the "TMQ artwork" was abandoned right before copies were manufactured, as was the use of lyric lines in place of song titles. Solid Rock clearly forgot to update the website description though. See the link at the foot of this page

my feet are on the rock
[Go to Song Page]
My feet are on the rock, my name is on the roll
But moving and a grooving, it does not satisfy my soul
So when I’m down I go off on my own, yes I do
And when I feel the need I dance before the throne
The people at the church, the kids down at school
You know they think that I'm half crazy, they act like I'm a fool
But when I'm down I go off on my own
And when I feel the need I dance before the throne
Take it easy, nice and slow
Feel his presence, don’t you know
If he says follow, I will go
I feel like dancing, ‘cause he saved my soul
Goliath had a sword but David had a stone
And I have got the Lord, so I am not alone
If you knock me down, brother I will not fight you back
'Cos God loves all his children
Red, white, yellow, brown and black
Take it Charley, take it [Spoken]
Well my feet are on the rock, my name is on the roll
Moving and a grooving, it does not satisfy your soul
But if you're down brother, sister
Go off on your own
And when you feel the need just dance before the throne
My feet are on the rock, my name is on the roll
But moving and a grooving, it does not satisfy my soul
So when I’m down I go off on my own, yes I do
And when I feel the need I dance before the throne

I was walking down the road when I bumped into you
I was walking down the road ah, when I bumped into you
Mmm you stopped me, you touched me, you looked me in the eye
I had the feeling that you knew me, I decided you must die
I pulled out my Thornton special, I shot you in the head
I threw you in the alley way, I left you for dead
Ah-chi-uh, ah-chi-uh-chi-uh
Chi chi chi
Then a man with a hat, he came up from behind
The sky went black and I thought I was blind, yeah
He put his hand into my jacket, he left a million dollar bills
He put his hand into my pocket, he left me women and thrills
And when I turned around to thank him there was no one there but me
And both my hands were filled with sand, I was standing by the sea
We had dinner at eight, women at nine
The party was great till we ran outta wine
There was a knock upon the bedroom door, my knees began to shake
And this man came in, he melted all the candles on my cake
He said I've come here to escort you, it's time for you to go
He opened up my body, he took away my soul
Aaaaaah
I was running down the road
I was running down the road, I was trying to leave
An' I saw you all alone in between the thieves
And when the lightning flashed I saw somebody hanging from a tree
And as I turned to walk away I realized it was me
I pulled out my Thornton special, I shot me in the head
I threw me in the alleyway and I left me for dead
Down the road
I was just going down the road
Just like you, just like you
I was just walking down the road
I was walking down the road when I bumped into you
I was walking down the road ah, when I bumped into you
Mmm you stopped me, you touched me, you looked me in the eye
I had the feeling that you knew me, I decided you must die

twelve good men
[Go to Song Page]
I need twelve good men. [Music starts] That's all you need. [Spoken]
Just a little handful of true believers, spirit receiver [Half sung]
I need twelve good men
I can only find eleven
And there are six young lions
I'm still waiting for number seven
I may be living here down on earth
But I am living for heaven
I got a woman I'm in love with
There's no need to say her name, yeah yeah yeah
And no matter what happens baby
I'm gonna lo-ove you just the same
You know love is like seeing an angel from heaven
Love is so hard to explain
Take it Charley, take it Hessi [Referring to Heikki Silvennoinen]
Yeah yeah yeah
I've got this black leather jacket
The one I've had through all my youth
I've got these dark sunglasses
I feel just like William Booth, yeah yeah yeah
A-don't ask me nothing 'bout nothing
I just might tell you the truth
Oh-ah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah
Wo-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-wo-oh-oh
I need twelve good men. [Music starts] That's all you need. [Spoken]

let the rain fall down
[Go to Song Page]
My woman left me, she left me for another man
You know it came as some surprise, it wasn't in my plan
She never told me nothing was wrong, she never gave me a clue
One morning there was a knock on the door, and I found out we were through
And as I stood there with the papers in my hand
I found myself transported into this distant land
Heavenly father
Thou who all doth see
You let the rain fall on the good and the bad
So let the rain fall down on me
As through this life you ramble, as through this world you roam
You might live in a lot of houses and never find a home
As down the road you wander, and through broken fields you cross
You must never stop believing for all is not lost
And don't you worry 'bout the unfaithful lover and false friend
For the love that you have given them, that's what matters in the end
Dearest father
Help me thine to be
You let the rain fall on the quick and the dead
So let the rain fall down on me
Life is complicated, it's very hard to live
I gotta turn my cheek to everything my enemies give
I got a lotta compassion for the sinners and the slaves
I've got an ancient message for those not in their graves
He will cover you with water, he will baptize your pain
If you let his power wash you clean he will soothe your burning brain
Heavenly father
Thou who all doth see
You let the rain fall on the good and the bad
So let the rain fall down on me
I didn't know you were my father
I thought you were the hanging judge
And when I came into your courtroom
I thought you'd hold a grudge
I thought I was a lowly servant
I didn't know I was a son
And I didn't know you had forgiveness
For everything I might have done
This world is crumbling, your kingdom is at hand
Give me the strength to live a little longer, help me to stand
There's gonna be a collision, this world is a-going fast
The mortgaged future meets a bankrupt past
Change is coming but people are sleeping in their bed
Storm clouds will bring the rain and the moon will turn blood red
Heavenly father
Thou who all doth see
You let the rain fall on the good and the bad
So let the rain fall on me
Dearest father
Help me thine to be
You let the rain fall on the quick and the dead
So let the rain fall down on me
Let it fall

six sixty six
[Go to Song Page]
In the midst of the war he offered us peace
He came like a lover from out of the east
With the face of an angel and the heart of a beast
His intentions were six sixty six
He walked up to the temple with gold in his hand
He bought off the priests and propositioned the land
The world was his harlot and laid in the sand
While the band played six sixty six
We served at his table and slept on the floor
But he starved us and beat us and nailed us to the door
Well my number is up, I can't take any more
And I'm sick of his lies and his tricks
He told us he loved us but that was a lie
There was blood in his pockets and death in his eye
Well my number is up and I'm ready to die
If the band will play six
If the band will play six sixty
If the band will play six sixty six
Ah yeah
In the midst of the war he offered us peace
He came like a lover from out of the east

why don't you look into jesus
[Go to Song Page]
Why don't you look into Jesus? He's got the answer [Spoken]
Mawm sipping whiskey from a paper cup
You drown your sorrows till you can't stand up
Take a look at what you've done to yourself
Why don't ya put the bottle back on the shelf
Yellow fingers from your cigarette
Your hands are shaking while your body sweats
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
You got gonorrhea on Valentine’s day VD, AIDS
You're still looking for the perfect lay
You think rock and roll will set you free
Ow you'll be deaf before you're thirty three
A-shooting junk till you're half insane
A broken needle in your purple vein
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
Work all night
Sleep all day
You take your money
Throw it all away
You say you're gonna be a superstar
But you never hung around enough
To find out who you really are
A-think back to when you were a small child
Your soul was free, your heart ran wild
Each day was different and life was a thrill
You knew tomorrow would be better still
Things have changed, you're much older now
If you're unhappy and you don't know how
Then why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
You oughta check it for yourself
Look into Jesus (He's got the answer) He's mighty good, yes he does
(Why don't you look into Jesus, he's got the answer) Take a look, take a look
Why don't you look into Jesus
He's got the answer
Oh yes he does, I know he does
Because he gave it to me, he showed it to me
He is, you knows he is, you got
He is the the answer
Yeh-eh-yeah

Take the high way to Jesus [Spoken]
why should the devil
[Go to Song Page]
A one two, a one two three
I want the people to know
That he saved my soul
But I still like to listen to the radio
They say rock and roll is wrong
We'll give you one more chance
I feel so good I'm gonna get up and dance
I know what's right, I know what's wrong
I don't confuse it
Well all I'm really trying to say is
Why should the devil have all the good music
There's nothing wrong with what I say
You know Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away
They say to cut my hair
They're driving me insane
I grew it out long to make room for my brain
Sometimes people don't understand
What's a good boy doing in a rock and roll band
Hey man there ain't nothing wrong or satanic or communistic about blues licks
If you've got a scripture, show me to my face
Why should the devil have all the good music
There's nothing wrong with what I play, aaaah
Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away
Yes he did, allright
I'm not knocking the hymns
Just give me something that has a beat you know
I ain't knocking the hymns
Just give me a something that moves my feet
I don't like some of those funeral marches
I ain't dead yet
Wow
Jesus told the truth
Jesus showed the way
There's one more thing I'd like to say
They nailed him to the cross
Then they laid him in the ground
But they shoulda known you can't keep a good man down
You can't keep him down
Yeah devil, you can't keep him down
All I'm really trying to say is
Why should the devil have all the good music
There's nothing wrong with what we play
Jesus is the rock and he'll roll my blues
Jesus is the rock and he'll roll your blues
Jesus is the rock, he'll roll our blues away
Ya-babababababa-ya-ah-ah-ow
A one two, a one two three
I want the people to know
That he saved my soul

shot down
[Go to Song Page]
I've been shot down, talked about
Some people scandalize my name
But here I am talking 'bout Jesus just the same
I've been knocked down, kicked around
But like a moth drawn to the flame
Here I am talking 'bout Jesus just the same
I've been rebuked for the things I've said
For the songs I've written and the life I've led
They say they don't understand me but I'm not surprised
You can't see nothing when you close your eyes
They say I'm sinful, backslidden
That I have left to follow fame
But here I am talking 'bout Jesus just the same
Yeah
You wanna talk about my life, well listen to me
You got your facts all backwards, one two three
Spreading rumors and gossip is a bad game
The only name to spread is Jesus name
I've been knocked down, kicked around
But like a moth drawn to the flame
Here I am talking 'bout Jesus brother
Here I am talking 'bout Jesus sister
Here I am talking 'bout Jesus just the same
Yeah ye-ah
Yea-alright yeah
I've been shot down, talked about
Some people scandalize my name
But here I am talking 'bout Jesus just the same
I've been knocked down, kicked around
But like a moth drawn to the flame

the rock that doesn't roll
[Go to Song Page]
I was lost and blind then a friend of mine
Came and took me by the hand
And he led me to his kingdom
That was in another land
I feel so chane*, my life is rearranged [*Larry mispronounces changed]
When I think of the past I feel so strange
Wowie zowie he saved my soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's good for the body, great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
I was all alone like a rolling stone
I was going nowhere fast
I was on the road so far from home
When the future touched my past
You know I feel so blessed because he gave me rest
I finally feel like I've passed the test
I wanna be like him, that's my goal
Like the rock that doesn't roll
Well he's the rock that doesn't roll
He's the rock that doesn't roll
You know he's good for the body, great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't rock, yeah yeah yeah
I was all alone like a rolling stone
I was going nowhere fast, you know what I'm talking about
I was on that road so far from home
When the future touched my past
You know he's changed my head, my mind is blown
A solid rock ain't a rolling stone
I wanna be like him yeah, that's my goal
He's a rock, doesn't roll
(He's the rock that doesn't roll) Keep on rollin'
(Rock that doesn't roll)
(He's good for the body and great for the soul)
He's the rock (that doesn't)
(Rock that doesn't, rock that doesn't, rock that doesn't)
You've got to rock me on the water
Rock me from my grave
Rock me till I'm (born again)
You've got to rock me (till I'm), rock me till I'm saved
Yeah yeah yeah
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's good for the body, great for the soul
He's the rock that doesn't roll
I wanna tell you he's the rock that doesn't
He's the rock that doesn't roll
He's good for the body, great for the soul

sweet song of salvation
[Go to Song Page]
Uh huh ha yeah
Na na na na na-na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na yeah
Allright
Oh when you know a pretty story
You don't let it go unsaid
You tell it to your children
As you tuck them into bed
And if you know a wonderful secret
You tell it to your friends
Tell them that a lifetime filled with Jesus
Is like a street that never ends
Alright sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let your laughter fill the air
Sing that sweet (sweet) song of salvation
And tell the people everywhere
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
To every man and every nation
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let the people know that Jesus cares
Oh yeah
Na na na na na-na na na na
Na na na na na na na na na
You know what I'm talking about?
What I say, hey yeah [Spoken]
Now look around you as you sing it
There are people everywhere
And to those who stop to listen
Your sweet song becomes a prayer
If you know this wonderful secret
You tell it to your friends
Tell them that a lifetime filled with you know who
Is like a street that never ends
Alright sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let your laughter fill the air
Sing that sweet (sweet) sweet song of salvation
Tell the people everywhere
You've got to sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
To every man and every nation

So if you know this wonderful secret
Then tell it to your friends
Tell them that a lifetime filled with Jesus
Is like a street that never ends
Hey hey alright
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
And let your laughter fill the air
Sing that sweet (sweet) sweet song of salvation
Tell the people everywhere
Sing that sweet sweet song of salvation
To the king, the president, the United Nations
Sing that sweet, sweet song (of salvation)
Sing that song, let the people know that Jesus care
Oh yeah-right now
Come on you've got to sing that song
Sing it, sing it like you mean it
Everywhere you go, let 'em know
Up and down, all around the town
Woh yeah yeah yeah
Sing that sweet sweet song, that's right
And let the people know that Jesus cares
Wo-oh wo-ho-yeah yeah yeah yea-ah

[Go to Song Page]
Messiah took this world by force
Messiah took this world by force
I could hear children crying
I could see people dying
I could see the cities falling
I could hear the angels calling
Messiah Messiah
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah) He took this world by force
Messiah Messiah Messiah
He took this world by force
Red clouds blotted out the sun
Darkness fell on everyone
Rivers of blood were running
I could see the armies coming
I could see their weapons falling
An' I could hear the saviour calling
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah) Messiah
(Messiah) He took this world by force [x2]
Wo-oh-I see a light from the north
The bear from the north
And the dragon from the east
Marched upon the armies of Israel
I see a light from the north
And on that day the chosen cried out for Messiah
And Messiah came

bombs
[Go to Song Page]
Acid rain falling from on high
While a mushroom cloud fills up the sky
I don’t want it all to end this way
What about the songs we haven’t sung
What about the things we haven’t done
What’s the matter with the world today
When the bombs fall, oh yeah
When they end it all, oh yeah
When the bombs fall
I'll still believe in you
You have made the world a place to live
You have filled the heart with love to give
People go on fighting anyway
Can't they hear the children in the street
Don't they see the homeless at their feet
Why do people turn their face away
When the bombs fall, oh yeah
When they end it all, oh yeah
When the bombs fall
I'll still believe in you
And through the tears and all the moonless nights
You are still here to help me see the light
No matter what may come
I'll still believe in you
Acid rain falling from on high
While a mushroom cloud fills up the sky
I don’t want it all to end this way
What about the songs we haven’t sung

[Go to Song Page]
Who did that wa-ow wa-aw? Yeah I like that, let’s start the song that way. Over the chord, with a, with a chord. Yeah. Yeah. Okay we rolling? Move it around more, more chords, more [Spoken]
Separated, I cut myself clean
From a past that comes back in my darkest of dreams
OK again, yeah. From the beginning [Spoken]
Separated, I cut myself clean
From a past that comes back in my darkest of dreams
Been apprehended by a spiritual force
And a grace that replaced all the me I've divorced
I saw a man with a tat on his big fat belly
It wriggled around like marmalade jelly
It took me a while to catch what it said
'Cause I had to match the rhythm
Of his belly with my head
Jesus saves is what it raved in a typical tattoo green
He stood on a box in the middle of the city
And claimed he had a dream
What do people think
When they hear that I'm a Jesus freak
What do people do when they find that it's true
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak
There ain't no disguising the truth
There ain't no disguising the truth
No I ain't into hiding the truth
Kamikaze, my death is gain
I've been marked by my maker
A peculiar display
The high and lofty, they see me as weak
'Cause I won't live and die for the power they seek
There was a man from the desert with naps in his head
The sand that he walked was also his bed
The words that he spoke made the people assume
There wasn't too much left in the upper room
Skins on his back, hair on his face
They thought he was strange by the locusts he ate
The Pharisees tripped when they heard him speak
'Til the king took the head of this Jesus freak
What do people think
When they hear that I'm a Jesus freak
What will people do when they find that it's true
I don't really care if they label me a Jesus freak
There ain't no disguising the truth
No I ain't into hiding the truth
No
People say I'm strange, does that make me a stranger
That my best friend was born in a manger [x2]
