moses
[Go to Song Page]
Moses tending sheep in the fields one day
When he thought he heard a burning scrub-brush say
Gotta free your people
From the Pharaoh's hand
Gotta take 'em all to the promised land
Moses knew that God was talking to him
So he set off to Egypt with a vigor and vim
And Moses bugged the Pharaoh, he bugged him
And he bugged him
'Till he got his people freed
He used real bugs
Yes indeed, ow ow
He got his people freed
Ow ow ow ow [x2]
Moses on the banks of the wide Red Sea
He stuck out a stick and one two three
The water rolled back
And the people walked down
Everybody knew they wouldn't drown
Pharaoh told his army to bring 'em all back
An' here come the chariots, clickety clack
Why Moses took his stick
And he closed up the water
An' the 'Gyptians all took a bath
Ow ow ow ow
What a laugh
Ow they all took a bath
Ow ow ow [cough] ow
Ow ow ow ow
Dirty 'Gyptians
Grab my foot, take my hand
Lead me on to the promised land
Milk and honey, milk and honey
Milk and honey, milk and honey
Me and all my people is here
So keep on sending manna
From the atmosphere
Milk and honey, milk and honey
Milk and honey, milk and honey
After forty long years in the wilderness
They finally saw their potential metropolis
They all gave thanks
And they all praised the Lord
Even though it took time he kept his word
He grab their foot and he tooken their hand
And he brung 'em all over
To the promised land
But it seems to me like an awful long time to be
Looking for a home
Ow ow ow ow
A mighty long roam, home
Looking for a home, a home a home
Never borrow money needlessly [cough]

walking backwards
[Go to Song Page]
Walking backwards down the stairs
Trying to get higher
How can I get anywhere
Walking backwards down the stairs
Watching life elude me
Slipping through my grasp
Oh I know the truth at last
But to reach the top I've got to stop from
Walking backwards down the stairs
Trying to get higher
How can I get anywhere
Walking backwards down the stairs
People stop to watch me
Wonder what I'm doing
What direction I'm pursuing
I pretend I'm free but actually I'm
Walking backwards down the stairs
Trying to get higher, higher
How can I get anywhere
Walking backwards down the stairs
Walking backwards down the stairs
Trying to get higher
How can I get anywhere
Walking backwards down the stairs
Watching life elude me
Slipping through my grasp
Oh I know the truth at last
But to reach the top I've got to stop from

forget your hexagram
[Go to Song Page]
Ah forget your hexagram, you'll soon feel fine
Stop looking at the stars
You don't live under the signs
Don't mess with gypsies
Or have your fortune read
Keep the table on the floor
And don't you listen to the dead
You can't hitchhike your way to heaven
The devil's closed the roads
You live once and you die once with no
Re-incarnate episodes
You can't hitchhike to heaven
Or get there by just being good
The rules were set down long ago
When the spikes went in the wood
OK now [Very faintly]
Oh
Heaven is in your mind
When love is in your heart
Maybe you'll find the way
But first you have to start
Forget your hexagram, you'll soon feel fine
Stop looking at the stars
You don't live under the signs
Don't mess with gypsies
Or have your fortune read
Keep your table on the floor
And don't you listen to the dead
You can't hitchhike your way to heaven
The devil's closed the roads

[Go to Song Page]
Santa Claus is coming and the kids are getting greedy
It's Christmas time
They know it's in the store because they've seen it on the TV
It's Christmas time, it's Christmas time
It used to be the birthday of the man who saved our necks
Oh it's Christmas time
But now it stands for Santa Claus you spell it with an x
It's Christmas time, yeah I said it's Christmas time

lonely by myself
[Go to Song Page]
If I could find someone who really cared for me
Someone to share my love and keep me company
If I could find someone, I'd let them take control
And in exchange for love I'd give my very soul
It's such a lonely life, I almost cry each night
'Cause fate has put me on the shelf
I get so lonely, so lonely by myself
If I could find someone who really loved me right
They'd make my life complete, they'd make my soul shine bright
I've looked around the world, I've walked down every street
Still I can't find no one to give me what I need
It's such a lonely life, I almost cry each night
'Cause fate has put me, fate has put me on the shelf
I get so lonely, so lonely by myself
I get so lonely, so lonely
So lonely by myself
Who can I turn to, is there anybody there
Doesn't anybody care
Oo-ooh, doesn't anybody listen
Doesn't anybody care
If I could find someone who really cared for me
Someone to share my love and keep me company
If I could find someone, I'd let them take control
And in exchange for love I'd give my very soul
It's such a lonely life, I almost cry each night
'Cause fate has put me on the shelf

'Cause fate has put me, fate has put me on the shelf
I get so lonely, so lonely by myself
I get so lonely, so lonely
So lonely by myself
Who can I turn to, is there anybody there
Doesn't anybody care
Oo-ooh, doesn't anybody listen
Doesn't anybody care
up in canada
[Go to Song Page]
When I was up in Canada
I didn't have much money
You know my toes were cold
And my clothes had holes
My nose was kind of runny
I met a long-hair on the street
He said look you look like you'd like to eat
I said a glass of coke and a hotdog's fine
He said well how 'bout some bread and a glass of wine
I said lead me on, lead me on, lead me on
Lead me on where you're going
I said my body's tired but my heart's inspired
My hunger's growing
Lead me on, lead me on, lead me on
Lead me on where you're going
I said my body's tired but my heart's inspired
My hunger's growing
He took a loaf of Wonder Bread
Then he bowed his head
Then he filled my cup, drink it up my friend
It tasted better than the health food blend
He looked straight in to my eyes
I was quite surprised
He said you're locked inside but I can set you free
You will live forever if you follow me
I said lead me on, lead me on, lead me on
Lead me on where you're going, wo-oh
I said my body's tired but my heart's inspired
My hunger's growing, wo-oh
A-lead me on, lead me on, lead me on
Lead me on where you're going, oh-oh-oh
I said my body's tired and my heart's inspired
My hunger's growing
Ah, when I was up in Canada
I didn't have much money
You know my toes were cold
And my clothes had holes
And my nose was kinda runny
It wasn't funny

if god is my father
[Go to Song Page]
Hey it could be a lot lower
Yeah. It could be a little louder [Larry]
Ah louder louder [Larry]
One two three
Ma ma [Larry] [Spoken]
If God is my father
And you are my brother
Then why can't we bother
To really reach out and love one another
Why do we keep on acting the way we do
The way we treat each other
It must break his heart in two
Once we were happy
Oh yes once in the garden
And then a lie broke the stillness
And our hearts began to harden
And hoping to be wiser man has reached too far
Sometimes I think that we've advanced
But then I look at where we are
And oh I cry yeah-eh-eh
Wo-oh-ah-eh-eh-eh-eh-oh-oh
Why do we argue
Why are there so many churches
With half of them empty
And some represent a million dollar purchase
What's happened to the message given by our Lord
To take his gospel to the streets
Share our money with the poor
Learn to love
Love is the greatest thing
You've got to learn to love
Love is the greatest thing oh-oh-oh-oh
Own dom na na na na
Ah na na na
If God is my father
And you are my brother

Two, one, two, one, two, three cha [Spoken]
Dear Malcolm, dear Alwyn
You're my favorite singers in England
But I love you so much
You've got the holy spirit's touch
You're much more than just a two man band
I got a memo from Turner
He's a poet, I'm a learner
He said you're coming back to L.A.
Well I'll see you when you land
Hope your schedule's not too crammed
Know you can't, but I wish you could stay
I miss you my friend, oh yes
I think about you all the time
You're so far away
Well I hope you're feeling fine, alright uh
Got a message from Turner
[Mumble] I'm a learner
Said you're coming back to L.A., oh yeah
Do-na-nad du-nu-du-na-na

And your songs are so simple
But they take me to the temple

watch what you're doing
[Go to Song Page]
Mo' guitar [Spoken]
Mmm, mama killed a chicken, she thought it was a duck
She put it on the table with his legs sticking up
Papa broke his glasses when he fell down drunk
Tried to drown the kitty cat, turned out to be a skunk
You gotta watch what you're doing
Didn't you know
Yeah you gotta watch where you're going
Didn't you know
Little Joe Billy went fishing for trout
Played hooky from school 'til the cops found out
Didn't have a father, was an only child
His mama never beat him so he grew up wild
You gotta watch what you're doing
Yeah
I knew a girl, sweet as could be
But she fell for a man like a chain sawed tree
She listened to his lies, was fooled by his charms
Now she's sitting with a baby in her arms
You gotta watch what you're doing
Didn't you know
You gotta watch what you're doing
You oughta know that
You gotta watch out
Watch out
Well everything's fine till things get bad
Then you sit around thinking 'bout the good times you had
But it ain't no good to lead a life of sin
If you don't shape up you know you'll never get in
You better watch what you're doing
Ah don't you know
You oughta know where you're going
Do you know
Some folks smile, they seem alright
Then you later find out it was an angel of light
Try to love everybody but don't be blind
'Cause some kind of people try to mess your mind
You gotta watch who you know yeah
Some folks say that the good Lord's dead
That he doesn't exist 'cept inside your head
I wonder how many gonna be surprised
When they look straight up and see him coming through the skies
You gotta watch what you're doing
Don't you know
'Cause he does yeah
You know he watches what you're doing
Yes he does
You better know where you're going (Ooh ooh)
Yeah yeah yeaow (Ooh ooh ooh ooh ooh)
Well well well hutz sut sut
Well well well hutz hutz a mutza
C'mon pilgrim, you know he loves you
He loves you more than he loves this cloven earth
Don't make your life bad and start acting like an idiot

put your life in jesus nail scarred hands
[Go to Song Page]
Aow put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands
Just put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands
He's the rock of ages
He's the sage of sages
He's the key to the promised land
So put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands
I was blind but now I've learned to see
I was trapped but now I've been set free, ah-oh-ho
I was lost and alone, so far from home, I was losing sight of me
But now I'm warm and safe as I can be
So put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands
Put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands
You have heard the wondrous story (Oh oh-ah)
Now go and tell it 'cross the land (Oh ah ah ah)
Tell 'em, put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands
Oh yeh right, I don't really have a verse to go here
So I'll just let the band play it one time
Play it Jonny, play it boys
Yeah that's nice
Put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands
Put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands (In his hands) (Oh yeah)
He's the rock of ages
He's the sage of sages
He's the key to the promised land
So put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands
Just put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands (Put your life in Jesus' hands) (In Jesus' hands)
Put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands (Put your life in Jesus' hands)
Well Jesus is the rock and he rolled my blues away
I'm gonna play in his heavenly band (La la la la la la la la)
Put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands
Put your life, you know where (in Jesus' nail scarred hands) in his hands, that's right
(Just put your life) you only got one, you might as well go put it in his hands) (in Jesus' nail scarred hands)
Woo-ooh
Rock of ages and sage of sages, that's right, he's the man
So put your life right into his hands (in Jesus' nail scarred hands), put it there
(Well put your life in Jesus' nail scarred hands) Put your life into his hands, put your life into his hands
Woo-ooh

born to be unlucky
[Go to Song Page]
I was born about eighteen years ago in a little wooden shack
I was born about eighteen years ago on the wrong side of the tracks
I never knew my father and I never had a home
Well I don't know where I came from and I don't know where I'm going
I was born to be unlucky from my shoulders to my shoes
And I guess I'm stuck with my unlucky blues
When I was just a young boy I was raised on beans and trout
And on my seventh birthday, well my mama she kicked me out
They say I'm good for nothing, no one treats me kind
I don't care 'cause pretty soon I'm gonna leave this world behind
I was born to be unlucky from my shoulders to my shoes
And I guess I'm stuck with my unlucky blues
I jumped into the river to try to put myself away
A man jumped in and saved me, he spoiled a perfect day
He dragged me to the river's edge, he said he knew I had a need
Then he pulled out a soggy bible and that man began to read
Well he told me things I did not know, I'm glad I did not die
'Cause he told me God's my father and my real home is in the sky
And I said [Instrumental]
He said I'd done a very foolish thing to try to drown myself and die
And I told him I was glad he happened to be passing by
He said God would forgive me, so I repented of my sin
Then he said I must be baptised and he threw me in again
Aww I was born to be unlucky from my shoulders to my shoes
I thought I must be stuck with these unlucky blues
Aww yeaow
My life has changed in many ways, I'm such a different man
Well I know now who my father is and I know just where I stand
With one foot up in heaven and one foot on the ground
I travel through this world of ours, I try to spread God's word around
I was born to be unlucky, I knowed it, from my shoulders to my shoes
But I came unstuck from my unlucky blues
Yeaow maybe you can too
Alright woo

And this is just the beginning
the day that a child appeared
[Go to Song Page]
I was thinking just last Sunday
How the world confuses one day
With the rest throughout the year
And that one day is the day that a child appeared
Just a baby in a manger
But the room was filled with strangers
And a star hung in the sky
Oh like an angel
On the day that a child appeared
Little children please remember
Why we celebrate December
It's much more than Santa Claus
But you're right about the gift and tree
A gift of life at Calvary
Ooh I was thinking just last Sunday
How the world confuses one day
With the rest throughout the year
Mmm-hmm-mmm
And that day is the day that a child appeared
I was thinking just last Sunday
How the world confuses one day
With the rest throughout the year
And that one day is the day that a child appeared

what goes through your mind
[Go to Song Page]
What goes through your mind
What goes through your mind
You think your life is hell
But you've learned to hide it well
But when you sleep at night
Does it all come back
And it’s you who's black inside
Oh who you trying to fool
When you play it cool
You know you have big doubts
Of what life's all about
And questions fill your head
Is God really dead
Is there life after we die
If you're trying to please the world
You're gonna be let down
And the sea of people don't care if you live
Or if you drown
What goes through your mind
What goes through your mind
The things you think you want
They only screw you up
You can be good or bad
Do what you want to do
And it’s up to you to decide
Just what goes through your mind girl
I think you like being blind girl
Look for the truth and you'll find it girl
The truth's ahead, you're behind it girl
Just what goes through your mind girl
I think you like being blind girl
Just what goes through your mind girl
What goes through your mind [x4, very faintly]
What goes through your mind
What goes through your mind
You think your life is hell
But you've learned to hide it well
But when you sleep at night
Does it all come back
And it’s you who's black inside
Oh who you trying to fool

no change can attend jehovah's love
[Go to Song Page]
Every human tie may perish
Friend to friend unfaithful prove
Mothers cease their own to cherish
Heaven and earth at last remove
And the music world grows garish
While the moral codes regroup
But no change can attend Jehovah's love
No, no, no change can attend Jehovah's love
No change can attend Jehovah's love
No, you know no change can attend Jehovah's love
You know he loves me, he loves me, he loves me
He loves me, he loves me, he loves me
Loves me, he loves me, he loves me
Loves me, he loves me, he loves me
Loves me, loves me. he loves me
Every human tie may perish
Friend to friend unfaithful prove
Mothers cease their own to cherish
Heaven and earth at last remove
And the music world grows garish
While the moral codes regroup
But no change can attend Jehovah's love
No, no, no change can attend Jehovah's love
No change can attend Jehovah's love
No, you know no change can attend Jehovah's love
You know he loves me, he loves me, he loves me
He loves me, he loves me, he loves me
Loves me, he loves me, he loves me
Loves me, he loves me, he loves me
Loves me, loves me. he loves me
taking my time
[Go to Song Page]
Ah
Taking my time
Filling the holes
Resting my mind
Growing my soul
Love is divine
And reading the scrolls
Is making me whole
Ah ha ha, ah ha ha [x3]
Ah ha ha, ah ha ha ha
Ah ha ha, ah ah ha
Ah ha, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah
Taking my time
Filling the holes
Resting my mind
Growing my soul
Love is divine
And reading the scrolls
Is making me whole
Ah ha ha, ah ha ha [x3]
Ah ha ha, ah ha ha ha
Ah ha ha, ah ah ha
Ah ha, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
when i first saw you
[Go to Song Page]
When I first saw you I was all alone
Wishing for a love I could call my own
Watching a dream step out of time
Suddenly this came to my mind
That maybe you
I'm hoping that maybe we
I'm praying that maybe you and I can spend our life together
La la la la la la la la la la la ah ah ah la la [x2]
When I first saw you I was all alone
Wishing for a love I could call my own
Watching a dream step out of time
Suddenly this came to my mind
That maybe you
I'm hoping that maybe we
I'm praying that maybe you and I can spend our life together
La la la la la la la la la la la ah ah ah la la [x2]
the tune
[Go to Song Page]
Once there was a tune
And everyone knew how it went
But as time went by
People began to forget
Until at last no one could remember
And there was hatred and wars and death
Then one day somebody said how does the tune go
There is no tune, there never was, it’s only a myth
These were the philosophers
You mean there's no tune at all
Well, it doesn't really matter what tune you play
As long as you play something
These were the religious leaders
And so the world played on
And there was hatred, wars and death
Then one day the people became weary of this song
And they all sat down on the side of a hill
And suddenly they heard a very strange voice
And somebody said that sounds like the tune
There is no tune, there never was, there never will be
Well it doesn't really matter what tune you play
As long as you play something
And you don't hurt anybody, especially me
But the people listened
And a man appeared before them
With a smile on his face
And a sad look too
And he was singing the tune
And some of the people began to sing along
La la la la la…
And the people who loved him
Decided to follow him
But the people who hated him
Decided to kill him
And they did
And when it was finished
They went back to their houses of philosophy and religion
And they sat down to their tables to eat and to drink
Suddenly, they were interrupted by a familiar voice
And they ran to their windows and looked outside
To see who it was
It was him
And they became confused and afraid
And they wondered how they could be rid of him once and for all
And while they were watching him
Something very strange happened
How did he do that
I don't really know, but he's gone
And when trouble goes, you don't ask where
He'll never return, ever again, I hope
Yet again they were interrupted
This time they ran out into the streets to lay hold of him
But they couldn't find him
Just a lot of people smiling
And they all knew the tune
La la la la la…
And when the people made a mistake
They stopped, and they listened
La la la la la…
That's how they knew the tune
Because they listened
La la la la la…
And if you listen you'll hear it
It's all around you
Just listen to your radio
Watch television
Listen to your leaders
To the authorities
To the governors
To the experts
But if you really listen
You can hear another tune
But you have to listen quietly
And you have to listen every day
I know the truth
I know the man
He’s coming soon
‘Cause that’s his plan
You’ve got to be ready
Hold on steady
Don’t go slack
He’s coming back
I know the man
Yeah, I’ve been claimed
Coming soon
Playin’ that tune
I got to go
You coming too
When he comes sailing down from the roof
Once there was a tune
And everyone knew how it went
But as time went by
People began to forget
Until at last no one could remember
And there was hatred and wars and death
