lyrics version 1 and 3
I know a girl who lives on apple cider
On a hot summer's day I know where to find her
Sitting in the shade with that cool apple cider
Oh you've got it made with that cool apple cider
Look at her face, the glow of apple cider
And I know a place, huh, where I can get some cider
Sitting in the shade with that cool apple cider
Oh you've got it made with that cool apple cider
You've got to give me some
Uh give me some, aooow
Uh give me some, yeeaaa
Give me some apple cider
I know a girl who lives on apple cider
On a hot summer's day I know where to find her
Sitting in the shade with that cool apple cider
Oh you've got it made with that cool apple cider

I never liked this song. That's why we stuck it here at the end of the record.** I didn't like the stabbing keyboard repetition. I thought the song was harsher, musically, than anything we recorded before. It seemed to mirror the new, militarily forceful direction the band was now heading since the guitarist, bassist, and keyboard player had entered into Scientology.
I don't even remember recording this song. I thought the lyrics were much like the simplistic thinking of a slightly naughty schoolboy. Herb Hendler chose it as the band's next single and by then I was long gone out of the band and living in Los Angeles, writing Alison. When I saw that "Apple Cider" was supposedly from "Alison" I laughed. Herb Hendler was always trying to cross-promote things. If the song wasn't a hit it would silently, wordlessly be disassociated from "Alison". I had every confidence that it would.
** Referring to The Best Of People Volume 2.

Billboard Magazine, August 10, 1968: (Prod. Capt. Mikey) (Writers: People) (Beechwood, BMI)-Their "I Love You" proved a smash for them and this driving rock item from the musical "Alison," loaded with discotheque appeal, has much of the sales potential of the recent hit. Strong production work. Flip: Ashes Of Me (Beechwood, BMI). [Billboard predicted that this single would reach the top 60 of the Hot 100 Chart - it didn't]
