lyrics
I get so tired of being a folk singer. I miss not being able to play with a band, that's because of doctor's orders now so tonight I brought my Marshall [Spoken]
All christian music sounds safe
Ah ah ah
If you wanna be heard you've got to play the radio game
Or you just say what's on your heart
That's a honest way to start
I've got no violins
I don't beautify my sins
I don't wanna be top forty
Just wanna share the Lord-ah
Don't want a Dove or Grammy
I just want a holy sword
All christian music sounds safe
Ah ah ah
If you wanna be heard you've got to play the radio game
Or you just say what's on your heart
That's a honest way to start
I've got no violins
I don't beautify my sins
I don't wanna be top forty
Just wanna share the Lord-ah
Don't want a Dove or Grammy
I just want a holy sword
Dove l'etude was Larry's poke at the American Christian Music Awards or Dove Awards, I can't remember. They were being held that night and Larry was snubbed. So he borrowed someone's Marshall amp, a very tiny thing. I believe it belonged to Matthew Ward. That song was the hardest on the album to get a clean mix up because Kerry Hopkins got very excited about what Larry was doing and screamed so loudly during the introduction that I had to use about four different source recordings to edit his screaming out. - John B Wood, April 2018
This was an improvisational song performed in 1994, for the first (and only) time, at about the same time the DOVE awards were being presented. The 6" amp was at first the whole point of what was merely a visual joke, then the song emerged and ended up being about the gospel music industry, with more of a message than Larry had even intended. - Gathered Moments CD booklet
