lyrics version 1
If God is my father
And you are my brother
Then why can't we bother
To really reach out and love one another
Hmm hmm hmm
Why do we keep on acting the way we do
The way we treat each other, it just breaks my heart in two
Once we were happy
Oh yes once in the garden
And then a lie broke the stillness
And our hearts began to harden
And hoping to be wiser man has reached too far
Sometimes I think that we've advanced but then I look at where we are
Ah ah ah ah
[Coughs]
Sipping whiskey from a paper cup
You drown your sorrows till you can't stand up
Take a look at what you done to yourself
Why don't you put the bottle back on the shelf
Yellow fingered from your cigarettes
Your hands are shaking while your body sweats
Why don't you look into Jesus
He got the answer
Now think back to when you were a child
Your soul was free your heart ran wild
Each day was different and life was a thrill
You knew tomorrow would be better still
But things have changed, you're much older now
If you're unhappy and you don't know how
Why don't you look into Jesus
He got the answer
Work all night, sleep all day hey
You take your money, throw it all away
You say you're gonna be a superstar
But you never hung around enough
To find out who you really are
Take a look, take a look
Why don't you look into Jesus
He got the answer
Yes he does, yes he does
Why don't you look into Jesus
He got the answer
You oughta check it for yourself
Look into Jesus
He got the answer
And you are my brother
Then why can't we bother
To really reach out and love one another
Hmm hmm hmm

Life was filled with guns and war
And everyone got trampled on the floor
I wish we'd all been ready
Children died, the days grew cold
A piece of bread could buy a bag of gold
I wish we'd all been ready
There's no time to change your mind
The son has come and you've been left behind
A man and wife asleep in bed
She hears a noise and turns her head, he's gone
I wish we'd all been ready
Two men walking up a hill
One disappears and one's left standing still
I wish we'd all been ready
There's no time to change your mind
How could you have been so blind
The father spoke, the demons dined
The son has come and you've been left behind
You've been left behind [x2]

"Many thought that "Deja Vu" was the name of the next song [referring to In Another Land] but the words deja vu mean "already seen." These songs had earlier been introduced to Larry's audiences and deja vu referred to man's limitations in always looking back at the past because he is unable to see clearly into the future. Larry proceeded toward the end of Side One with part of "If God Is My Father," the key song from So Long Ago The Garden, followed by part of "Why Don't You Look Into Jesus," the key song from Only Visiting This Planet.
These two songs about the Father and the Son were intended to segue into the key song from In Another Land, regarding the Spirit and Larry's personal journey as a struggling pilgrim; the song "I Am A Servant.""

Larry said that the Déjà Vu songs [If God Is My Father and Why Don't You Look Into Jesus] were the central songs from the preceding Trilogy albums. Even knowing that If God Is My Father should have been part of So Long Ago The Garden, this is a confusing statement given that I Wish We'd All Been Ready is also part of Déjà Vu and from Only Visiting This Planet.
