Yellow Daisies |
Sandy Beaches |
Yellow Daisies is one of Larry's early compositions, and remained unreleased until 2012 when it was included on the SRA only CD The Living Room Tapes Vol. 2, under the title Sandy Beaches.
The Living Room Tapes CDs - four were released, each containing five tracks - were labelled as being recorded in 1963. There is a handwritten list of songs however which denotes Yellow Daisies as being from 1964. There are two or three known recordings of the song in existence:
The BMI publishing site lists this song as Yellow Daisies Summer Rain. |
LYRICS:
Of the version on the 'LN Rarities' cassette: Yellow Daisies take four [Spoken] Sandy beaches, quiet moments Yellow daisies, summer rain I hate to watch the sea alone It hurts a man to be alone I wish I could have met you long before When you were here the sky was bright The moon looked better every night We'd chase the waves and kiss along the shore Sandy beaches, quiet moments Yellow daisies, summer rain We took each others hands We loved to touch each other and Above the silver stars were sequins in the sky I told myself she'd never leave That's what I wanted to believe But now she's gone and I'm just standing by Sandy beaches, quiet moments Yellow daisies, summer rain |
Solid Rock put the acetate up for auction in 2012: Here is how Charles Norman described it:
LARRY NORMAN ACETATE / LACQUER RECORD - YELLOW DAISIES - EXTREMELY RARE!!!
On January 29th, 1968 Larry Norman walked out of the Capitol Records recording studio complex with a lacquer recording of a new song he had just recorded that afternoon. A fantastic slice of late '60s smooth psychedelia, "Yellow Daisies" was one of a short string of "audition records" Larry did for Capitol before he was given the green light to record his milestone Upon This Rock.
This record is the only one in existence. There are no other copies.
Upon request, Solid Rock will provide a digital recording of this record on CD for the winning bidder.
This item from Larry Norman's personal collection comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from Solid Rock.
I suspect that Charles may have misread the date on the label, as it seems quite clearly to say '69' rather than '68'.
