Quit Kicking My Dog Around
Whilst Larry did say that he wrote this song (during the performance on Rough Diamonds, Precious Jewels), it is actually a very old song to which Larry wrote additional lyrics. See below for a recording of it from 1926. It is perhaps most famous for having been used in the movie Kelly's Heroes
Version 1 is a live recording, performed solo with acoustic guitar during a concert in Northern Ireland

Version 1 is a live recording, performed with acoustic guitar and as a duet with his sister Nancy during a concert in Beaverton, Portland, on October 18, 2003

lyrics version 1
Every time I go to town
The boys keep kicking my dog around
Makes no difference if he is a hound
Y' gotta quit kicking my dog around
Wa-ooh
Wa-ooh
I've got a dog with a basketball nose [x3]
Reason I say that is 'cause it's always dribbling all over the place [Spoken]
Every time I go to town
The boys keep kicking my dog around
Makes no difference if he is a hound
They gotta quit kicking my dog around
Wa-ooh
Wa-ooh
Um mm-mm-mm-mm
My sister has a dog named Elmer
My sister has dog named Elmer
My sister has dog named Elmer
My dog's name is Spot
Every time I go to town
The boys keep kicking my dog around
Makes no difference if he is a hound
Y' gotta quit kicking my dog around
Wa-ooh
Wa-ooh
This is, these are all songs from my childhood a' [Spoken]
My dog lives in the city with the birds and the bees
He doesn't like city 'cause it doesn't have trees
Got fireplugs [Spoken]
Well every time I go to town
The boys keep kicking my dog around
Makes no difference if he is a hound
You gotta quit kicking my dog around
Wa-ooh
Wa-ooh ooh
My dog sings it with me sometimes [Spoken]
Um, um, it's been so many years. I never sing this eh, my, my nephew came up and eh, eh to visit and he was singing this song an', an' I said how do you know that song, he says oh I learned it when I was a kid. And I said I wrote that song. I'd never met him until like three years ago you know, and he said no you didn't, it's, it's a children's song they sing when, when you're little. I said no, it's a song your mom told you 'cause she learned it from me, ?? she's my sister
Mm. I think it really messed me up being raised in a black neighbourhood because um, well here's, here's another song [Spoken, over guitar]
The boys keep kicking my dog around
Makes no difference if he is a hound
Y' gotta quit kicking my dog around
Wa-ooh
