lyrics version 1
When she dabbles in the fancies of a little girl
I see ribbons of imagination draped around her world
And our love could be so strong but she leads me on
Yes our love could be so strong
I see ribbons of imagination draped around her world
And our love could be so strong but she leads me on
Yes our love could be so strong
lyrics version 2
Oh she comes on strong, laughing all along
And she says my name like she's glad she came
And she takes my hand but it's all been planned
I'm gonna tell her my mind's made up
And I'm gonna tell her toughly
That I've had enough
I'm not gonna let her bluff me
But when she dabbles in the fancies of a little girl
I see ribbons of imagination laced around the world
And our love could be so strong but she leads me on
Yes our love could be so strong
I'm gonna tell her my mind's made up
And I'm gonna tell her toughly
That I've had enough
I'm not gonna let her bluff me
Ah girl hmmm hey, p please don't go
I love you so
I want to be with you for the rest of my life
Coming on strong, laughing all along
And she says my name like she's glad she came
And she takes my hand but it's all been planned
And she says my name like she's glad she came
And she takes my hand but it's all been planned
I'm gonna tell her my mind's made up
And I'm gonna tell her toughly
That I've had enough
I'm not gonna let her bluff me
But when she dabbles in the fancies of a little girl
I see ribbons of imagination laced around the world
And our love could be so strong but she leads me on
Yes our love could be so strong
I'm gonna tell her my mind's made up
And I'm gonna tell her toughly
That I've had enough
I'm not gonna let her bluff me
Ah girl hmmm hey, p please don't go
I love you so
I want to be with you for the rest of my life
Coming on strong, laughing all along
And she says my name like she's glad she came
And she takes my hand but it's all been planned
From the Othello segment.
Othello has been called by some "Shakespeare's most romantic character." He is very conflicted. Desdemona has accidentally dropped a handkerchief that was Othello's first gift to her, and Iago takes it, deciding to plant it in Cassio's lodgings. He then tells Othello to hide, then casually tricks Cassio into talking about an affair he once had with the courtesan Bianca. Bianca's name is never mentioned during this discourse so Othello thinks Cassio is referring to an affair with Desdemona. After all, Cassio's room contained Desdemona's handkerchief. Othello is torn between his total devotion and adoration of his wife, which is represented by the parts of the song which are soft and poetic, ("when she dabbles in the fancies of a little girl, I see ribbons of imagination laced around her world ...") This is contrasted by his anger at her, represented by the rage of the chorus, ("I'm gonna tell her my mind's made up ..."). Enraged, Othello decides to kill his wife. That night, Othello angrily confronts and then irrationally smothers Desdemona in their bed, out of intense jealousy. Later, discovering he has been manipulated by Iago, he tries to kill Iago, fails, and then Othello commits suicide with a dagger because he is so broken-hearted at what he has done to his loving wife. But this part of the story line is not covered within the song.
